Why should only golfers be afraid that the Star Wars movie titles are wrong?

Revenge of the Shank

That was so well done. Super cool.

I think that boat is not as big as it initially looks. I'd guess that those sea lions are 7 to 8 feet long... much bigger than a human, but not the size of whales or anything.

The largest sea lion is Steller's sea lion, which can weigh 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) and grow to a length of 3.0 m (10 ft).

Most vessels with sails and a half-cabin with standing room like that one are upwards of 25 feet long. That would be longer than two maximum size members of the largest sea lion species on earth laying end to end.

There are two sea lions in that video, but they are not end to end. The one on the aft of the boat seems to be overlapping the one foreward of it by about half its length (if they were both laying flat), which at maximum sea lion size would be a combined length of about 15 feet. Their combined length reaches about 2/3 of the way from stem to stern of that boat, which is at minimum 16.5 feet. It's close... it is conceivable that the video is real, but it doesn't seem likely.

Maths, baby!

I see what you're getting at BadKen but I think it's more likely the sea lions are smaller than they appear, as Malor says (they look considerably smaller in the moving image,) than someone would go to the trouble of doing such a painstaking and utterly convincing CGI job to create that scene filmed from a constantly moving boat.

I was looking for pictures of New Zealand for my students to paint as we continue our isolation world tour. I thought it might be interesting to have a go at painting a sea lion and as I searched for suitable images I found the video below. Either that boat is smaller than I think or those sea lions are MASSIVE.

Here's an insight into their state of mind.

I'd like to see the person who made that Trump video recreate it again but with the two Trumps on a boat with the camera on another boat circumnavigating them continuously. That's a whole different level of CGI and not one anyone with any sense would employ to get a brief mention on the local news.

Look man, I'm just doing the math. Cabin cruisers with sails are not tiny boats. They're most commonly 30' or more, but some go as low as 25-26 feet. Cabin cruisers without sails can be smaller, in the 20-24 foot range.

I'm no expert on either cabin cruisers or sea lions. I'd be happy to be shown the error of my ways.

I think it's an optical illusion created by the angle from which we are seeing the boat in the thumbnail. At the start of the video sea lions look smaller and are, just about, end to end (I thought I'd said that it my earlier post but apparently not.) If my maths is correct that image gives the impression that the sea lions are a more reasonable size.

The thumbnail isn't doctored because you can see the point at which it was taken later in the video.

As someone who regularly sees giant California sea lions regularly, those do not look at all unusually large in that photo. They are enormous.

I think those windows are about 2.5 feet wide. If a 6' human laid down on top of the cabin, with his or her feet right at the rear edge of the roof, I'm pretty sure their head would hang over the front by an inch or two.

Those sea lions are, I think, somewhat longer than a human, 7 to 8 feet, and massively heavier, but they're not sea-spanning monstrosities. Just spitballing, I'd guess they're about twice the weight of a regular dairy cow, maybe a little more.

The unholy child of ASMR and unboxing videos

And I’m...into it?

I am cross-posting because I didn't shower this morning and am a filthy double poster (linked in the Doom catch-all). I spent a week laying out this music video with an original score and am proud of it, specifically the timing. I think it shows I started to run out of decent highlight material for the last 2 shots, but maybe I am the only one who notices.

Wat?

(Didn't imply anything. Some time ago a youtuber did a comedy sketch with that video. That's it.)

Yes, sorry. I now realise that the Trump video wasn't connected. Apologies.
