Updated.

Larian have confirmed that Early Access will be coming on the 30th September

Have they said anything at all about when it will actually release?

Shadout wrote:

from the things they were talking about in the panel, they are very much still
in the active writing and development phase, not the polish phase, so i think it's going to be in EA for a while

No and they won't until quite a ways into early access. D:OS and D:OS 2 spent quite a while in early access.

What is it like to play an RPG in early access? Do you restart a million times as new content gets added? Do you still enjoy the final product? (And I mean do you actually fully play through the full version after having played in EA for a while.

I think those are valid questions as to how I play DOS2 today.

"A while" - I think that's a direct quote from Swen as well. I would expect 2022 to be honest.

There's a question. For D:OS2 I played the original early access, realised early on that I just wasn't getting the best experience and just decided to leave it until it was released. Can't say I regretted that decision.

That said I might give this a little go just to satisfy my burning curiosity for the game.

Yeah I cant see myself trying a story-focused game in early access. Not that I could really see myself trying most other early access games either.
Oh well, 2022 it is!

I am just so starved for D&D related video game content I will buy and play it as much as possible.

I've been holding off on other game as I didn't want to get into something to then be distracted by BG3... but Fall Guys won't bridge a 6 week gap... Probably gonna pull the trigger on Horizon Zero Dawn this weekend.

The new pathfinder game should definitely be out before 2022...

How do you get in to early access?

I think it'll just become available on steam on the 30th Sept.

fangblackbone wrote:

I chose to read it as "before 2020 ends", in which case, it could be a looong time.
Really hope it isn't that far away though. Also "enhanced edition" of the first pathfinder game soon. Not sure if there is anything interesting in there. But could be an excuse for going back in.

Edit; and when I said 'soon' I apparently meant 13 hours ago.

Or Stadia... You can buy the game then play it without needing the service... They funded part of the development of this game... Also I need people to play with....

Didn't their head writer get cancelled for being a rapey asshole?

I don't believe Chris Avellone was ever accused of rape, but of being handsy and harassing and an all around drunk asshole. He was let go from a couple projects, but I believe he and his work is still in the Pathfinder sequel.

He is not involved with BG3 though.

Avellone worked with Owlcat games but was not an actual team member I believe.

Besides, I enjoy Pathfinder for the rogue like endless dungeon. I could care less about the story.
Of course, I'll be pissed if they make me wait for the endless dungeon DLC (please include it in the release, pretty please!)

These are both completely correct. Avellone was also working with Waylanders and Dying Light 2 but is no longer with those projects.

I hope Larian makes some changes compared to their DOS games and tightens up the story. The number of options and approaches were too much for me. Leaving me feeling scattered. Overall it seemed, to me, to lack a unity of story. I bounced off of the games repeatedly. I loved, in concept, how open they managed to make the game and the character creation/choices But would love more “guardrails.” if that makes sense.

Did you play solo or with others? I played coop with my wife and brother. Since you could explore fully on your own there were a lot of times where one of us would find some angle into a plot to follow. It also meant we didnt all have a full understanding of what was going on. So pluses and minuses.

Solo. I got further with DOS2 my second go around. The challenge I have is that I don’t feel drawn into the story and I think it’s because there are too many storylines. While there is certainly a central story to the game and it was interesting, all of the subplots going on left me feeling scattered

It also could be that I’ve just outgrown this particular open-world approach to RPGs.

Early Access opens on Sept. 30th.

Early Access will feature around 20-25 hours of gameplay in a single play-through, with performance captured dialogues and cut-scenes, voice overs for most dialogs, multiplayer (but no split-screen for now), several translations available (but not all) and an Act 1 story that should feel fulfilling to play through many multiple times, with multiple characters. At the start of Early Access, support for custom characters will consist of 6 classes and 9 races, with several subclasses and subraces included. You won’t be able to play as an origin character yet but you will be able to recruit 5 of them as companions when your journey commences.

Huh, well, maybe I missed something, but not finding anywhere to preorder/prepurchase it so I CAN participate in early access.

I'm going to Day 1 purchase this, but not Day 1 play. I've been on media blackout for most of this (and it's killing me) because I'd rather be happily surprised when I finally dive in.

Can't preorder stuff on Stadia... not much a point to since no downloads... also seems like the Developer doesn't want people to preorder it on hype because the early access is truly early access and it will be not balanced and buggy.

My newest kid will be coming about at that time give or take a week... I might buy day 1 to support them, but my play time won't be significant for a bit.

There is rumor they will do an epic exclusive but it will be available to pre-play on Steam. I will give them money as soon as they will take it.

I'm almost certain that in an early Q&A Swen completely ruled that out. Could be wrong though. I'll see if I can track it down.

Edit: Yes - Baldur's Gate 3 will not launch on Epic - It will be on Steam, GoG and Stadia though.
