[Discussion] Election 2020

Seems like the board is set. Let’s see how this goes.

That’s why Trumpism’s real goal is apartheid.

Yeah, legally-enshrined tyranny of the minority. Demographics don't mean sh*t if we don't have free and fair elections and the Democrats continue to be Republican-lite.

Michelle Obama, wow.

It is what it is.

Going high doesn't mean don't punch.

First night went better then expected. I don't know if they intentionally set an expectation of "Zoom Meeting Room', of if I just got that myself, but that was decent.

Michelle could give an amazing speech in an empty unlit parking lot at midnight I think.

Sanders sounded literally better then he did by the end of the campaign, I think the schedule was getting to him a bit. Laid out stakes well.

The Amtrak bit was legitimately good.

I think the choice of these speakers pretty much sums up the Republican party/platform for this election

St. Louis Couple Who Pointed Guns At Black Lives Matter Protesters To Speak At RNC

The RNC is also having the smarmy Catholic school MAGA prick speak about the dangers of "cancel culture" that awaits Trump supporters if Biden wins.

It's full on culture war red meat.

It says more about the couple, who claimed they supported Black Live Matter. They could have walked back their actions. They are injury defense lawyers, and those protesters are their client pool. I don't think they actually supported BLM, but it was in their business interest to do so.

Maybe this stunt did more damage to their business than they realized, and are now sucking up for cash.

They are morons. If Trump gets voted out, they are f*cked. As MAGA wains, they have isolated themselves from mainstream culture.

And seriously, looking at that photo, how can a GOP campaign guy look at them at think they are a good look. They look like the poster children for gun control. That photo tells screams to average Americans, "Do you want to look like a moron?"

They are the equivalent of Chachi. They are not even Diamond and Silk level.

Jayhawker wrote:

Because in the GOP campaign guy's head white Christians are an endangered species being hunted to extinction by Democrats and people like the St. Louis couple have no choice but to use their god-given right to own firearms to fight back against the liberal hordes who are hellbent on destroying America by making it a little bit less white and Christian.

"We're only pointing our guns at you because we love you!"

Jesus Christ, that rear site elevation.

That's what I mean. They make gun owners look like morons when they become the face of the movement.

Ignored through this entire story, is that these protesters went by their home on their way to the mayor's home. Absolutely zero homeowners were attacked. These were the only two acting like morons.

Not a single other of the owners of the hundreds of homes these protesters passed had to point guns at them to remain safe. But the GOP wants to hail these freaks as heroes?

They're charged with a felony. I guess Trump will pardon them on his way out?

Trump cannot. The governor has already said that he would

Lol. Just noticed that. The good news is he'd shoot over their heads. The bad news is the bullets need to land someplace.

So Trump tried to criticize Michelle Obama for taping her speech by pointing out that her over 150k deaths number wasn't accurate, and it's actually 170k dead people on his watch.

He's so bad at everything. What the hell is wrong with people that can't see he's an idiot?

Your problem here is with the assumption that his idiocy is a bad thing. To plenty of Trumpers, it's a feature, not a bug.

Not to mention most of them don't care that he's an idiot because he advances their [racist, greed-fueled] agenda. The fact that his brain is smoother than the cheek of a porcelain doll is completely irrelevant.

He's a Big Strong Manly Man who triggers the Libs, that's all they're looking for.

A better question is how they ignore that he has skin thinner then a glass frog and can be bated into telling a 10+ min harrowing tale about the time he had to walk down a ramp by a 30 second ad.

That is why he connects with them.

He's weak, out of shape, dull, bragadocious, and a crude bully. He talks sh*t but walks away from real fights. He thinks yelling is power.

He is them.

Postmaster General DeJoy suspends changes to postal service to avoid any impact on election mail - NBC

"In the meantime, there are some longstanding operational initiatives — efforts that predate my arrival at the Postal Service — that have been raised as areas of concern as the nation prepares to hold an election in the midst of a devastating pandemic," he said. "To avoid even the appearance of any impact on election mail, I am suspending these initiatives until after the election is concluded."

DeJoy said the hours of post offices would not change, mail processing equipment and blue mail boxes would not be removed, all mail processing facilities would remain open and the Postal Service would again allow overtime to be "approved as needed."

It's not my fault
I'm not to blame
It's Trump who let slip the plan!

But will he put back the machines already removed?

I would guess no. Though from what I've heard from people working for USPS half of those machines were legitimately past the end of their service life and spare parts were impossible to come by. The real source of the delays was the rules about Overtime.

Yeah, I commented to my wife that we are all on board the fascist train if Michelle Obama is named Emperor of Earth ;P

There were several mic drops in that speech other than "it is what it is".
There was a stability mention.
There was the contrast between Trump's "I'm the only one that can handle this" and Michelle's "He is not capable of being who we need him to be." "He was never ready for the job" because "you need to consider conflicting information, take responsibility, make smart plans with advisors, and listen."

I will say that there is a very short list of who can go high when they go low and Michelle tops it. I am not even sure her husband can hold a candle to her in that regard. Trump supporters are so entrenched that I think Michelle only temporarily stunned them. But I think she was extremely compelling with "we know this isn't right" and "underneath it all, Americans help one another". She needs to campaign immediately and often.

What are the odds that the guy who started his tenure at the USPS by sending out a PowerPoint that explicitly said he was eliminating overtime is going to find that any future overtime is "needed"?

Saw the breakdown last night, though.

USPS did turn a profit of 9 billion in the 3 years before the 2006 bullsh*t that f*cked with the pensions.

And without that nonsense it still would have been profitable the past 4 years, and a couple more between.

Republicans are lying, what else is new, to try and privatize the one government agency that has 90% approval ratings.

And it's already being turned into attack ads!

Poor Susan Collins, she must be so concerned.

I would imagine that depends on how much scrutiny and pressure he's under. I'll call this a good start.

I unironically loved that rollcall and I hope they never go back to the normal way.

Now if you'll excuse me I have a craving for some calamari.
