Rocket League Catch All

Is it actually done in game? Figured it would be on the web like Fortnite, Warframe, etc.

The game itself will prompt you to log into Epic when you launch it after the update. That links that platform to your account. The rest of it is done on the website or inside Epic Games store app I believe where they already have the whole account linking feature there that applies across games.

I already have some of my accounts linked on the Epic Games Account Connections page of their website:
https://www.epicgames.com/account/co...

I guess I'll reinstall on Steam to link after patch then, at least.

Anyone know if the new cross-platform account play also means cross-platform trading? My son is hoping that that is the case.

They detailed it a bit more today:
https://www.rocketleague.com/news/cr...

- you link your platform accounts to an Epic account
- most of your inventory (merged from each platform) now spans across all your platform accounts. some cant yet. some may later.
- you can't trade across platforms but you can load up your account on the other platform and then trade so if you have items on PS4 and you want to trade them to someone on PC you have to link your PS4 account to an Epic account then launch the game on PC to trade.
- if you link multiple platforms together you have to pick your "primary" so it knows which account to get your rank and level and pass progress from
- credits do not span accounts and stay on the platform you bought them on
- brand new accounts can't trade without having bought some credits. mostly likely to slow down scammers.

i was looking into the Chinese free to play RL a bit recently and i noticed in the Chinese version you cannot play ranked on a new account right away. you have to level up your account first. that's a good first step to reduce smurfing. not sure that will apply to our free to play version but i hope so. would be nice if they applied that rule across all platforms as well so it wasn't so easy to smurf on consoles.

the Chopper EG wheels you get for linking your accounts:

Thank you--this sounds like it's close enough to what he will want to do. The credits not transferring is a bit disappointing, but I wonder if that has something to do with the real money that is involved in acquiring them and the payment platforms involved.

I wonder if the Epic version will let us stack public servers still.

Good question. AFAICT only the Steam version can do that today and you can’t do it cross platform at all, only by joining another steam player.

Is it possibly to use parties to do it? Can you join players in your party who are already in a match?

I’m wondering what stick (or carrot) they plan to use to force Steam players to move to the Epic version.

This does look really cool and I'm interested in trying some. Seems a lot more inviting than 6-mans and gives a nice competitive mode to play with mixed groups of friends without risking your rank.

I like that it supports going in solo and getting a randomized team.

It sounds like they are using the major rank (plat, diamond, champ) instead of the level within that rank to categorize players into tournaments. That's gonna really suck if you are at the lowest level of a rank (s1, g1, p1, d1, c1, etc) and especially you have a team including people on the bubble of the next lowest rank. Example: a team of p3s and d1s is gonna get destroyed in a diamond tournament. A group of d3s and c1s is gonna get absolutely murdered in a champ tournament. This is especially true if you have a higher rank in something like rumble and that pulls you into the higher bracket where you can't really compete.

This is yet another thing for people to smurf in and I really hope they deliver better anti-smurfing features in the next update. The fact that they use the max ranked player in a team and they aren't using very granular ranks for matchmaking is going to encourage more smurfing for sure.

They need a truly casual matchmaking mode. Something with mutators or whatever to make it a more inviting for mixed skill teams. Something that has XP so that you can play it and still get rocket pass levels. I still feel like we lost something by moving bottle rockets to lobby takeover instead of private matches but the reason that started was those events that give you balloon currency and rocket pass because people didn't want to be in a private match earning no currency or XP.

If we can make our own private tournaments and you still get XP and currency and so on for them we could potentially do randomized team tournaments together. Just everyone joins solo and it randomizes teams. If you lose you rejoin solo and get a new random team in the "Second Chance" bracket. That could be really fun. I assume private tournaments still let you tweak settings and are not stuck at 3v3 like the official ones. 2v2 with some mutators or something might be fun.

I'm game to do privates for Bottle Rockets. I don't mind losing a couple of hours of XP gain. I do enjoy the more casual feel and tweaking mutators are fun.

I hope you're right about the private tournaments, that would be fun.

I wonder how granular the regions will be. Like East West, Europe, or if there will be divisions within those.

Next I hope they make improvements to the clubs or whatever it's called. Add the ability for a club chat, club message/calendar for events like bottle rockets, club voice chat. It would be nice if I didn't have to use discord anymore when playing rocket league with you guys and could just use in game features to meet up and chat in game.

ROCKET LEAGUE CHALLENGES: A CLOSER LOOK

IMAGE(https://rocketleague.media.zestyio.com/rl_challenges_news.309bf22bd29c2e411e9dd8eb07575bb1.jpg)

Challenges expanding:

You'll have a whole new way to earn items when Rocket League goes free to play, and it all starts with revamped Challenges. Currently, Challenges are part of Rocket Pass but soon, Challenges will be game-wide, and each will grant a reward upon completion.

Items from crate series available as random drops from challenges (instead of just blueprints like today):

Drops can be found as Challenge rewards, and on the free track of Rocket Pass. When opened, Drops award an item that is added to your inventory. They come in every rarity type starting with Uncommon and grant an item of the same rarity as the Drop or higher (including Black Market items). The items received from Drops are tradable to other players, but the Drops themselves are not.

After the launch of free to play, Challenges and Drops will be your primary way to earn free items instead of receiving items from leveling up.

Old random drop items that we can trade up for painted cars and wheels will drop less often now which means trade ups for things like White Octane will be far more rare...likely to drive up store purchases when those items go on sale:

Because you can receive so many new items from Trade-Ins, current items will naturally appear less often. So, if there are specific items from that group that you are looking for, say, a Titanium White Octane, be sure to trade in your items prior to the launch of free to play.

New free-to-play accounts start with access to far less items than they used to but have challenges to get a lot of the stuff that came with the base game:

New accounts will only have access to Octane, Breakout, and Merc to start, but New Driver Challenges will expand their garage and unlock some of the common cars and items that were already unlocked in the paid version of Rocket League.

Rocket Science asking for help running an experiment to show how much input lag actually impacts us

This new Air Race map would be a cool official multiplayer mode if, you know, Psyonix ever added more of those.

I would love to do some of those modes multiplayer. If I get motivated I'll set up a VPN to try some if anybody is interested.

Freestylers keep getting more and more impressive

Ok this one is just great:

ROCKET LEAGUE FREE TO PLAY: SEASONS, NEW RANKS, AND MORE

New season format starting at Season 1 again.

Grand Champ rank split into GC 1/2/3 and a new Supersonic Legend rank added above.

MMR re-balancing happening to compensate for new players at lower ranks which should push most current lower rank players up a little.

New accounts will have to reach level 10 before they can play ranked.

Solo standard being removed finally.

PlayStation Plus and Nintendo Online no longer required for online play. They don't mention Xbox Live Gold but there are strong rumors that is going free for everyone soon so maybe that's why? Maybe not and Xbox players will still need to pay an online tax. /shrug

Merc getting it's own hitbox again. This should make a friend of mine happy...except now he's kinda used to it having the octane hitbox so maybe this will just make him complain a bunch again Either way it's the first real change in how cars work in years so it's nice to see something happening. The Merc used to be the best for 50/50s and dribbling so maybe it's going to get more use again (and of course other bodies will come out with this hitbox one day too).

Lots of other stuff.

Heatseeker will be playable in private matches

!!!!!

Does that mean----------- mutators?

Making the left trigger default for air roll seems a little weird. It seems like most people map it to the left bumper from what I've seen.

Other than that it all looks good. I think it's funny that they made an even worse level of bot though. I don't remember the rookie bots being very challenging when I first started playing.

Oh, and 10 levels doesn't seem like enough to keep the smurfs at bay. What is that 20 games or so of casual? It's going to suck to be a new player in silver or gold when the Supersonic smurfs come into your game.

From what I heard online the Chinese free to play version also requires 10 levels and levels take way longer to get in that version. Now that free items are not granted on level up maybe they changed the time per level a lot. Curious to see if rocket pass is still tied to XP levels tho.

I’m just gonna leave this right here

I remember having the importance of awareness drilled into me back in high school sports and it always stuck with me. It helped that I mostly played rugby and football where the consequences of bad awareness were being crushed and being scored on.

FlowStateGG's channel is actually a goldmine if you are looking to improve your game. Definitely going to start recommending him to more people. I'm not going to bother posting a bunch of videos. If you are interested check out his channel here:

I finally got to GC tonight. I only managed to get 2 of the reward wins before losing it again unfortunately. Still, it's my first new rank since season 6 so it felt good to finally get over the line and see that promotion.
