NFL 2020: Draft

NFL teams do employ people whose job it is to keep up with the rest of the league.

In NE, it's called the "film crew."

The top 100 is silly, but Mahomes as anywhere other than #1 seems odd to me.

He fell because he had a 78.1 passer rating in his most recent game.

Blake Bortles had a 98.5 passer rating in his most recent playoff game.

Exactly. This is why I stand firm in my belief that the greatest QB of the modern era is Joseph Addai.

The refs had to intervene to keep him out of the Super Bowl.

Doug Pederson tests positive for COVID. He and Sean Payton, two so far. How many more before they stop this silliness?

Head coaching has trended young as of late, but I worry especially about assistant coaches, you've got some lifers out there.

I really like Gardner Minshew. If everything goes right, he can be the next Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Agree; also, that statement is not a compliment to either one of them.

We already knew he wasn't infected, because there was not a corresponding disproportionate spike in cases among age 30+ divorced single moms in Duval County.

"Hey, Bobby! Your mom's new boyfriend just threw his third pick of the day against the Titans!"

Yeah, that checks out.

Pretty sure you're thinking of your old QB, not my guy.

Minshew threw 6 INTs total in 14 games. I believe Jameis averaged 6 INTs every 14 pass attempts.

Cam is gonna be pissed. He didn't sign up to be QB of a JV team.

The local radio said the Patriots are up to 9 opt outs now. 30 something mil in cap space when they had almost none before. Cam singed for pennies because the Patriots had nothing to offer him. He certainly can't be happy with this!

I have kinda been out on keeping up on the NFL lately. Any other teams getting hit by this? I heard the deadline might be Thursday so maybe we will find out more in the next couple days.

I don't buy the conspiracy theory that Belichick is "behind" the opt-outs, but I do expect that he's particularly accommodating of them. Opt-outs lower the expectations of the team's first post-Brady season. If they underperform, the narrative is that of course they did, they're playing shorthanded.

Let's just say that, behind closed doors, I imagine Belichick's messaging to his team on opting out is quite different than some other coaches, who maybe aren't as extreme as Del Rio, but closer to his neighborhood.

Wait your mom is dating Jameis oh sh*t we need to warn her

Nah, the Pats have had the most AFAIK.

This is what I’m thinking. Creates flexibility in the short term, buys goodwill with players, lowers expectations, and gives Belichik a year to evaluate everyone who comes through.

Yeah, I'm sure the pressure to play isn't the same. I'm still disappointed that I cant get to see another legit QB get to play with similar personnel. For better or worse Cam could have extended many plays last year. Brady felt like a disgruntled curmudgeon so, at the very least, the team would have been more fun to watch.

OK, this will be interesting to see if it's the tip of an iceberg or just a NE player thing.

Belichick is 68, how much longer does he really want to coach? Is he ok basically wasting a year of the few he has left?

I thought this was Conor McGregor.

Someone made this:

A couple of lists of opt-outs for you:

Sporting News, which lists opt-outs by team (other media outlets have similar lists)

NFL.com, which lists players by reason (voluntary, higher risk, unspecified) and team

As of right now, the Patriots have the most (8). Browns have four; no one else has more than 3 so far. Seems to be 60-some around the league. Today's the deadline.

News from Carolina: new LT Russell Okung is thinking about retiring.

I'd probably be more upset about this if I thought the NFL would be playing this fall.

Anyway, good for Okung, whatever he decides. Gotta put your health and family first.

Trading Trai Turner for a player that immediately retires though, ouch.

I wonder if situations like this should factor into the compensatory pick formula.

Speaking of which, is there a list of all the players opting out due to Covid? I would lik to see a team-by-team break down.

Update: The Charlotte paper says Okung isn't retiring. Guess this little drama isn't quite over.

Scroll up a couple of posts. The Sporting News link seems up to date. And you know NFL.com will have a list somewhere.
