How does it play if you don't know anything about hockey?

Retro Bowl has destroyed my thumb.

I really like it.

For my money, Crashlands is the best actual game on Android.

Anyone else tried Evil Hunter Tycoon? You essentially run a town that the adventurers use as their base. I'm liking it.

Sounds interesting. How bad are the micro transactions?

So far it hasn't been an issue, but I'm only a few days in. It's got the multiple monies problem, so I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being an issue.

The gameplay is pretty straightforward and simplified. The front office stuff is a little complicated for someone who knows nothing about football (me), but I am getting the hang of it. I think. It's pretty.

Not sure if this is old news, but Google Play Pass just launched in Australia and I thought I'd take advantage of the free month.

It's...Not amazing. There's a lot of chaff to sort through. In contrast to Apple Arcade's curated selection, it looks like almost anything is able to make its way onto this service. I've downloaded a small handful of games to try out, but nothing amazing.

Though I am enjoying Holedown, which is very similar to BALLS

I love Terraria, but the controls on a mobile device are frustrating.

I've been playing Crying Suns a bit. for $9 US it's a pretty good deal. i actually like it more then i liked FTL. the world is kinda neat, Dune meets Foundation and the art is nice. gamepaly is pretty solid, combat is mostly RPS style real time with pause but it's got some neat options and the story it's revealing slowly is cool. don't know if it's got "play for monthes" level legs but i certainly am enjoying my time with it.

Yeah I had it on Steam list for a while but saw the mobile release last month and tempting to get it there for a lot cheaper. Looks to be the same full game.

it is, same game, touch controls are solid.

Oh wow, Crying Sun's had a mobile release?

I discussed it in the Steam summer sale thread, or maybe in the space games thread during the Steam sale. Because the mobile was still half the price of the Steam version on sale. But couldn't find anyone that had tried mobile yet.

The Putty author also has a pretty good single player puzzle game collection, already ported to smart phones.

I did have a small fanboy moment when I discovered Simon worked in the same office as me. I was using putty as a 16 year old to connect to Muds, happy to report he’s a nice guy in person. Asks good questions in all-hands.

Cross-posting from iOS thread:

Yesterday I tried out Guardian Tales.

It's a pixel art action/adventure, sort of 2D Zelda style game. Each level has multiple collectibles to find with mini-puzzles hiding some of them. You can find maps that open up mini side levels on the main map. You control one character but have a (so far in my experience) second that follows you and contributes to battles.

It's gacha-style with all that entails but seems pretty F2P friendly so far. One nice difference about the stamina system is that you use it to unlock a level but don't have to spend any to repeat the stage to say, try to find collectibles you missed.

It's got a fun sense of humor. You can meet characters within levels who will then follow you on "Facebreak" and their posts with then appear in your Facebreak feed. The localization seems really well done, especially for a mobile game.

Ever see those Home/Garden Scape ads and think that looks like a neat timewaster, but know those ads are hella misleading? Well, have I got the game for you! Hero Rescue, the game you play when you want to....rescue the...hero......which makes you the hero rescuer in this Hero Rescue the game?

Lately i've been playing guns of glory and i kinda like it even tho i hate waiting for the timers

Hi folks, looking for some new recommendations. Browsing the Play Store is just not working out for me.

At work, I often have hour chunks of time where I've got little to do. Every 10-15 minutes I'll have to press a few buttons and then back to waiting. There's almost zero reception/mobile data in the room, because the MRI scanner messes with the signal.

Looking for some fun little offline portrait mode games to fiddle with. Happy to spend a few dollars. Has anyone played anything cool lately?

I am currently hooked on a Kairosoft sequel to Dungeon Village. Appropriately it is called Dungeon Village 2.

The formula is simple, repetitive, and somehow scratches an itch that keeps me playing.

Check out Wark and Wimble! It's a kind of single-screen puzzle game. Imagine a modern version of Adventures of Lolo and you'll have an idea of what it's like. It's ad-supported, but you can pay to remove them.

Full disclosure - it's made by a twitter buddy, but they're only a twitter buddy because I genuinely love their work.

Also, not a portrait game, but I made a crappy little Gameboy style platformer for Android called Odessa. It's not great, but it's probably the most 'complete' game I've made. Look at the screenshots - they tell you exactly what sort of game it is.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I played the heck out of the first one when it came out, but haven't really looked at Kairosoft games for a few years. Will have to check this out!

Oh boy I bought dungeon village and never played it.

I loved Kairosoft games on iPad back in the day. Ignored them for a while and now I see lots of new flavors. Actually kind of giddy. These things are my kind of grind. You pay up front. No ads. No microtransactions. I won't swear to it but I doubt these apps are even network aware.

Yeah I spent a ton of time with Dev Story and the first Dungeon Village. Maybe 1 of their other games years ago. Pretty solid.

10000000 and You Must Build A Boat are great portrait games with no internet or ads.

Aye, was addicted to Dev Story for a month or so, must be knocking on the door of a decade ago now.

Tried a few other Kairosoft since, but nothing grabbed like that one again. Maybe time to try again as there are a load included in Play Pass, which hooked me with a trial not long back.

So I checked the play store this morning and it said I had Dungeon Village installed. So I went to play it during my vaccine appt today, and nope... must have been installed on my previous phone. And they had no public wifi, just the secure. So to avoid data, I looked around at what I had installed... and found Meteorfall.

I remember playing a ton of that before Slay The Spire was available on Switch. So I tried to get back into it, and got my ass kicked first run with Mischief. My appt was over then but I kind of wanted another shot, so I've been playing off and on all afternoon.

I had only ever won with Greybeard and Muldorf. So tried a run with the new Varfa & Orhu (either they were added after I played, or I unlocked them and never tried them?), and got a little farther. Started to remember how to play and relearn some of the strategy.

So back to Bruno, the first character. A lot of STS strategies apply, trimming your deck, focusing on one thing (block), and so finally I was able to win with Bruno!

Went straight back into a game with Mischief, and focused on a quick stab, eviscerate, and bleed build. No full on status cards, just ones that caused some status as I attacked. The key was mostly to kill the enemy right at the end of my first turn or start of their first turn with bleed/poison. Just never let them attack because she's kind of fragile. Picked up a dodge card late, and I think that might have helped me live one fight when the enemy took a full turn. And I did the Krumit sidequest, so I had his ring to give me an extra life if needed. But no, finished the final boss on my 2nd turn, no problem!

Back to back victories. I think I'll try Rose tonight, and see if I can make it 3 in a row. Wow.
