What Casual Games Are Like For Someone Who Doesn't Play Games

This time he had his wife play casual games that are far more friendly to new gamers

IGN review

I daren’t watch them but I know IGN’s score already. Things are looking promising. I need this to be a great game but we all know that’s no guarantee it will be.

There's Something Special about the Demon's Souls Remake

If you don't know VaatiVidya and you are into Souls games you gotta check out his channel. He's one of the best.

I’m glad it runs well and looks good on the original non-pro PS4.

Star Wars Squadrons - Gameplay Reveal & Overview | EA Play 2020

Not to break up this Last of Us party, but some dude just beat StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm on Hard without losing a single unit. The video isn't a stream, but a mission by mission breakdown of how he did it and his various save scumming or do-overs. It is fascinating.

You broke the Last of Us streak of one video. How dare you!

That Last Of Us Part 2 Review "Buy, Wait for Sale, Rent, Never Touch?"

Great review. He doesn’t like the game as much as I didn’t but he gives everything thorough consideration and delivers his assessment in a fair and considered way. I shouldn’t have expected anything less.

So with news the other day that G4 might be coming back, I went to look up and see what few good G4 shows I actually enjoyed in its early days were on YouTube. I already knew Icons had been "archived" there, a documentary show that covered companies, game devs, and even events in the game industry. However, the only other show I recall really watching was Electric Playground, which was basically just... game reviews. It wasn't trying too hard to be funny, it didn't have a ton of skits or anything, it was just reviews of games.

Well it turns out it's still around, with Victor Lucas running it as a YouTube show. Unfortunately it's not quite the in-depth stuff I go for these days, but I couldn't help but subscribe due to just the nostalgia of it. What's cool is that Victor seems to occasionally bring his daughter's opinion into things, as he does in the Origami King video linked below.

I don't expect his will be my favorite videos, but back in high school when G4 first premiered, I recall putting it on whenever I was between other hobbies. They didn't have a lot at the time – there was another show with Victor Lucas and Tommy Tallarico (Google says it was Judgment Day), one that was just game trailers, and... one with people just sitting at game stations and talking? – and I felt like they didn't have enough content to justify a whole channel, but it wasn't bad.

Then E! took over, X-Play became bigger, and I dunno when Attack of the Show appeared but that just... oof.

So, yeah. Figured I'd share in case anyone else remembered Electric Playground and perhaps wanted a dose of familiarity.

The Games I Wish I Could Play Again For The First Time

I like his discussion about discovery and games filled with abstract puzzles vs being explicitly a puzzle game.

Shadow of the Colossus is absolutely re-playable, and I have, but he's right that it is just not as magical the second time.
