Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

I think Black Museum (season 4 episode 6) has a lot of callbacks to previous episodes, so you might want to hold off on that one until you've seen the previous seasons. But, even if you watch it ahead of the other seasons you should still be able to follow it all.

The bleakness of Black Mirror can get to me sometimes, which is why I really enjoy the few times that the show has a lighter tone. This can be seen by the fact that my favorite episodes are:

Spoiler:

1. San Junipero
2. Nosedive
3. USS Callister
4. Hang the DJ

Having a hard time getting into Cursed.

Same here, found it reminded me of an 80's teenage girls series.

San Junipero is the best episode. And I like Hang the DJ a lot too.

It's telling that I can't name many other episode names.

San Junipero and Nosedive are outstanding.

Ok I looked up nosedive and yeah it was good. Of course at that point I had already seen the Community episode "App Development and Condiments" so it didn't seem that original.

I enjoyed Double World - that type of fantasy Asian movie that has a lot of action and CGI stuff.

So far the thing from Black Mirror that has stuck with me most is the odd sensation of hearing NIN turned into bubbly pop songs.

Just chiming in to say I enjoyed Old Guard. I want more so I can't wait until the sequel. (it seems to be trending so it looks like it will get one)
Charlise Theron is turning out to be one of my favorite action stars.
This did not remind me of Highlander at all. TBH it reminded me more of Hancock with a twist or a vampire movie without blood sucking or sun sensitivity.
Also +1 for Chiwetel Ejiofor!

I loved "Hated in the Nation" and "San Junipero". I enjoyed most of the rest.

"National Anthem" blew me away. And boy did I love "USS Callister"

Just finished Old Guard. It was so good that even my spouse stayed up to finish it and didn't doze off even once.

(I wrote this at 1:00am but never clicked post)

I stayed up to try out a show called Norsemen? From the little preview snippet Netflix played it sounded like it could have potential. Self-aware, middle-management Viking warriors? Could be funny! Fifteen minutes into the first episode I Nope'd out hard.

I'm actually enjoying Norsemen. It's just so stupid and it reminds me of Monty Python-esque humor.

Yeah, I was getting that vibe. And I was enjoying some of the self-aware banter and then...

Spoiler:

a few minutes after a casual conversation about raping monks a man soiled his finger with his own feces and then smeared that finger into the mouth of a slave while that slave was being held by another man. I realize that casual sadism is a bit of a theme here, considering the subject matter. But then the slave, spitting and retching looks over to another slave tied to a bench with his pants around his ankles and as they begin chatting the tied slave is branded. That's when I decided that I didn't want to watch this for entertainment anymore.

A few years ago I could see myself brushing this off and continuing for the nuggets of funny. Not anymore. Maybe it's having small kids. *shrug* I don't thumbs-down often, but I did this time.

I get you but I've pretty much accepted that I'm a horrible person. I laughed my ass off at the new Boys trailer.

The Witcher is getting a prequel miniseries called The Witcher: Blood Origin. It takes place 1200 years prior to the main series and involves the pre-human elven world and the Conjunction.

I ended up enjoying Hell on Wheels. Bohannon is an interesting character. It's a shame that several other interesting characters got written out of the show without satisfying storylines, while other characters that should have be written out early ended up lingering long past their sell-by date.

I just finished Frontier. It follows the character Declan Harp (Jason Momoa) as he wages war on the Hudson's Bay Company in late 1700s Canada. The problem with this show is that it's really surprisingly dull. I'm a fan of Jason Momoa but he actually doesn't get that much screen time. We see all the scheming from all the sides, including Harp's group, the British governor, the guy trying to take over as the British governor, the native Lakewalker tribe, groups of independent traders, the people involved in a felt-making company, the owner of the local tavern, plus others. Honestly, the show spreads itself out too much. I think it would have been better if it was tighter and more focused. I just wasn't emotionally invested in the majority of these characters.

The entire series is only 18 episodes long, so if you want to give it a try it's not too much of an investment. I might not have finished it if it were longer.

Same here. It needs to be a series... It would be better than Warrior Nun. (Which I did enjoy.)

I finally watched S3 of Daredevil.

Spoiler:

It is an absolute mess.

Oh and also, I don't know if this belongs in the Anime thread but I really enjoyed Netflix's anime series BNA. It was a lot of fun. There were some predictable elements but they unfolded somewhat unpredictably. A lot of the side characters were very interesting and were used well even after their plot points were resolved.

Watched Japan Sinks and liked it. A very bleak show that pounds despair into you. The ending surprised me a bit in a good way. The only low point was in the middle where the survivors join a group. That entire plot could have been cut and the movie would have lost nothing and been better for it. The only good thing about it is it didn't go down how I thought it would.

Oh I guess there was something else I didn't care for. One person gets a vehicle but they never say how he got it or how he knew how to drive it. You would think someone would have ask where he get that thing. That was only a minor thing though.

I don't know if anyone else is into The Order, but the second season is solid so far. Except for the male lead's new blonde hair. That's not solid, but I think it's intentionally crappy, and his hair's always been questionable anyway.

For anyone who's not, it's a kinda fluffy "secret society of magicians vs a secret society of magic cop werewolves in college" thing. It's got a bit of a CW vibe. Not on the level of Riverdale or The 100 or anything, but still pretty solid.

A bit? It's wholesale CW crap. Pretty people barely emoting to a sh*tty story.

The hair is intentionally bad and it well, overachieves...
It is light fun where some of the supporting characters are much stronger than the lead(s).

Lol, this is true statement regarding most CW shows. But unfortunately there are not that many new fantasy shows available so it's what we got. I finished Warrior Nuns and Cursed and like The 100 so maybe I'll give the Order a try unless someone has better recommendations.

Doublepost ftw. Haven't done that in a while.

Well, I like it anyway.

Lost Girl
The Magicians

I accidentally watched The Sinner S3 without seeing the first 2 seasons (Netflix reversed the series order for some reason).

I was a bit worried half way through when it dove into Ubermensch territory, but it pulled it together for a strong ending. Going in blind I was pleasantly surprised.

Stayed up too late watching another episode of Warrior Nun. I don't know how closely it adhered to the actual events, but so far I'm pretty excited to see how they will unfold on screen. Up to the point I'm at, ep 5 or 6, they haven't even mentioned Phobos yet, but if you pause and do a frame-by-frame it is in the stack of postcards. Exciting!
