A Discord channel might be more appropriate. I'll check with the powers that be. Please, please, please don't make me have to join a new Discord server. :D

lol I know the feeling.

Okay, so folks in the nintendo channel aren't super keen on PKGO stuff. I'll ask if we can have a "role" like we do for SWGoH. For starters, everyone make sure you're on the GWJ Discord.

So I just jumped back in today after not having played for about 18 months, wow things have changed. Looks like I stopped at lvl 35 and have a bunch of research projects to do. What's the deal with these shadow mons and team rocket blimps?

Also, if anyone isn't on my friends list from back when, please add me. One of the researches I need is add 3 new friends, ha. My friend code is 4448 5472 0286.

Team Rocket balloons are for an event - they're just flying around to be fought.
If you beat any Team Rocket goons you can capture their shadow Pokemon and purify it (which bumps its stats).

Shadow do 20 % more damage at the cost of 20% health... Don't purify good ones right now... DPS is king in most situations... they are just really costly to level up.

free daily had 30 ultra balls in it.

Anybody know if the $14.99 pokefest thing this weekend is just for the weekend stuff or do you have to pay that to get the ultra weeks too?

Just for the weekend stuff... which is more than it seems. Lots of rare pokemon and shinies as well as early release for the latest mythical and possibly some really good rocket stuff. If you aren't aware, shadow pokemon do 20% more damage so are insanely good for several things... assuming you can afford the stardust cost.

Friend request send Ukick. I'm down for remote raids. Been busy at work, so haven't been around much. Home health is hopping right now.

Tried adding a few of you for the friend requirement for GoFest. The wife is arwaycas too. Let me know if someone wants our friend codes.

My youngest has gotten into PokemonGo pretty heavy over the last few weeks. I've tried to help him out with it here and there but honestly I've never had a lot of interest in Pokemon so I'm a little out of my element here.

I had made him his own kid account, but when we started I signed him into my account without realizing it and it's too late to try to rectify that. I managed to get him a Kyurem from a raid at my office (was watching right when it opened and 10 people hopped into it, so I figured why not), and I spin stops when I think about it, but going beyond that is a little rough. He's gotten a couple Metagross' on his own, along with a handful of shinies, and he's gotten up to level 23.

I was hoping maybe you guys can friend him up and help him out a little bit. Any tips on how to help him out would be appreciated as well.

Can do Pur. Every day, I spin a pokestop, catch one and try to finish field research to turn in one daily for the weekly bonus.

Purevil friend requests from a far away place incoming.

Hey Pur... Gamepress is your friend. It tells you how to beat all the raids... And how to build up to beating them.

PVP is a complicated mess requiring lots of effort to get good, although I have seen some 8 year olds really get in to the local stuff Silph Road does.

Silph Road site is pretty good and the reddit is where all the debate and analysis comes from if you want to get into the inner workings. I think there is a page for people returning to the game as well. It'd be a good read through for anone trying to understand what's going on.

Edit: Leekduck.com is probably the best news source if you don't want to follow Silph Road on reddit.

First off, thanks for friending my account guys, my son has been going nuts every time he gets a new request.

I'm already on the GWJ Discord but don't see any kind of PokemonGo channel. Is there a separate Discord for that? The link on here is expired.

Last, my kids are going nuts over the Rayquaza's in the raid pool right now. I'd be willing to toss a few dollars on their accounts to get them remote Raid passes, as there's no way we're two-manning one of these things. I went ahead and joined a local group as well through Silph Road, so hopefully I can get these things while they're around this week, but if you guys join up for a raid I'd prefer going that route.

Well evenings for you is middle of night for me.

Sent invite. I can do more that half the damage... But remote can be tricky so I still recommend a third.

I'd be up for a couple. Have 2 remote raid passes atm. How do invites and such work?

Start a raid, click the green circle with a plus sign and invite friends. It's laggy to scroll the list, so precoordination is important.

Partly why we need a discord channel or something.

Apparently a number of people did the raid across the street from us and they beat it, both kids got into the fight with the daily raid pass, but then neither of them could actually catch it. I managed Tristan's and even though I hit it around 6 times, even utilizing the super berries, it just kept breaking free. Sabastian hit it around 4 times but it broke free for him as well.

I think the catch rate, even if you throw a curve ball, use a golden razzberry, and hit it in the "excellent" circle only maxes out around 12% for it. If you aren't throwing a curve and only hit it normally, the catch rate is under 2%.

There must be a few people living near us that play, or else someone is coming by and inviting others because I was able to get both kids in the same raid tonight at the gym we can access from the house, and the other people basically beat it with little help from them.

Nothing that I can remember has made me as anxious as attempting to catch two Rayquazas back to back for my boys while they looked at me to save the day (I've gotten to the point where I can curve throw, they can't). For Tristan it finally stayed in the damn ball around the 6th throw, which of course amplified the stress because now Sabastian would be completely devastated if his brother got it and he didn't. Out of 11 throws, the first three were gone mostly due to his phone lagging horribly (~8fps) and there was no chance of hitting it. I closed a ton of apps he had running, which helped a ton. I finally caught it with one ball left. Holy sh*t I'm glad that's over, though Sabastian is too low level to actually use it.

Is there a guide showing trainer levels by the CP they can control? He's level 15, and the Rayquaza he got was around 2150, so I know that's the issue I just can't find a simple way to know at what level he'd be able to use it. Everything I can find is about powering up, not using it in battles.

for raids or gym battles he can use it anytime
for PvP great league is < or = 1500 cp (love it)
ultra league < or = 2500 cp (I suck at it)
master league any cp (so max cp) (hate it)

Ok. I'm not sure what he was actually trying to get into, I just know he was upset because it wasn't showing up as an option for him to use. I'll have to look into that tomorrow, I'm about to get them in bed for the night.

Apparently using the less than sign messed up this one...

Weird... only part of that post is showing for me... attempt 2:

ragin redneck is correct... If he was trying to do go battle league it is currently only 1500 and under... Rayray wouldn't do well there either.... pvp is a little weird and interesting at the sub 1500 level... lots of stuff is good there that is useless elsewhere.

As far as catching raid bosses. Make sure to try and catch every dragon type you see this week. Namely Bagon and Dratini from what I've seen. The medals you get for catching pokemon help your catch rate a lot. Getting gold in dragon is the hardest one because they are so rare. (The medals are in the player profile when you scroll down.) Rayray is flying and dragon... having gold in both gives a decent increase in catch rate. Also hitting inside the circle is important. Practice always getting inside the circle. Then practice getting in it at smaller radius. Nice is less than Great is less thanExcellent. (Excellent is the same bonus as a curveball. Which means curveball is more important.) All these things stack.

Setting the circle is a useful technique as well. Check out youtube videos on that, but basically set the circle size to something close to great, then wait for it to attack... can be time consuming... but do it unless you have a good reason not to... Then throw the ball before the attack ends... but so that it hits right when the circle would reappear. Each boss is different, so new ones are worth watching for a minute or two. This stops them from being able to move out of the way or knock the ball back at you.

Good news everyone! There is now a Pokémon Go channel beneath the Monster Hunting section on the GWJ Discord. There is also a Pokémon go role that you can take up that will help with notifications. See you there!
