Our 4th rescue. Originally named "Hey-heyyyyyy" by the rescue agency, we shortened it to just Heyhey and decided his namesake was the chicken from Moana. Our boy is a bit scared of people and noises at first, but is pretty friendly after a few minutes.

As they are rescues that came with their names we really can't be sure, but we have all the bases covered; they have leather bomber jackets, a Hawaiian shirt, bow ties, and lots of things to sit on.

They’re freaking adorable. When did you get them? They look like my little guy.

I’ll play along with the namesake thing.

We'll have had them for three years this November. They were estimated to have been 9 when they were in rescue, so I would say they are about 12 now.

Your guy is pretty adorable too. Do you now his breed? We think our guys are probably poodle-Bichon mixes, but people have suggest that they might have maltese, havananese, or any number of other breeds in them. I have concluded that their breed is cute, but I do wonder.

My Jermaine is a rescue too so we can only guess at his mixology. We suspect poodle and Maltese, but he has these pinkish splotches on his skin so we think he might be Jack Russell terrier as well.

Regardless Jermaine is adorable, and looks like he would fit right in with Chip and Dale. He might confuse Chip a little because he looks so much like Dale.

Kirby arrived on Friday and holy crap, are puppies exhausting. We love him!

I think she'd prefer that descriptor over the last one -from a discord- where it was said that she looks like a mafia boss!

My niece's cat, Todd, likes to chew on his tail.

So a couple of weeks ago, we noticed our 13-year-old cat, Harry, was seeming more lethargic than usual. Deflated. Unhappy. We'd just taken him to the vet and so far they thought it was early-onset kidney disease, but that didn't really explain his behavior. He was dehydrated too, so we actually spent a weekend forcing him to drink with a baby syringe until we could take him back to the vet the following Monday. My sister-in-law is our vet, and she didn't seem horribly concerned.

I knew something was up though, because that Monday, when we took him back, we found he had an aggressive form of Lymphoma, which was causing punctures in his internal organs, leading to fluids where they shoudln't be like his chest cavity. We could've tried steroids or chemo, but in the end we realized they'd barely be effective, and we'd be doing it for us rather than him, so we made the terrible choice to put him down. Two cats to cancer within two years. Fuuuuuuuck cancer.

The next day, our sister-in-law/vet called us to see if we'd like to meet some 14-week-old kittens her co-worker is fostering, so of course, we did, because we didn't want our other cat, a 1.5-year-old tuxedo named Matilda, to be without a buddy for too long. We met them, and one of the tabbies chose me, so we took her home. This is Miss Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bennet.

We introduced them last weekend after being separated for several days, and they're actually making some good progress!

IMAGE(https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/234019410799624193/734903808584581152/20200720_115936.jpg)

So it's been a real rollercoaster around here of late, but the new kitten is helping us with our grief. I still miss Harry and cry for him, but I hope he's in a better place now.

More progress as of this morning. This is one of Matilda’s (older cat) favorite spots, and that she’s sharing it with Lizzie is AMAZING.

Sorry about your loss of companions, it's awesome that the new one is getting along with Matilda. Sharing the favorite spot is pretty cool. Pretty soon, they'll be plotting the demise of the hooman overlords together at night instead of doing it separately.

We lost 2 of ours (Violet and Spackle) this year, 5 weeks apart. Heartbreaking, for sure. We still have 3 (Suki, Kira, and Kaylee) plus our boy's cat (Twizzler) since he's now in The Marines. His cat and our youngest are from the same litter but have been separated since they were about 7 weeks old. They do NOT like each other. We've been slowly integrating them for over a year, now, but don't think it will ever fully happen.

If I knew someone whom I trust that would take Twizzler, and would allow him to visit her whenever he comes back on leave, I would let her go.

God I'm sorry to hear about Violet and Spackle.

Very sorry for your loss Veloxi. My first kitty Spinoza passed because of almost identical circumstances and i made a similar choice. It's really hard decision to make.

The new kitten looks adorable! I'm glad they are getting along so quickly!

We lost both of our cats last year.
Hige to sudden cardiac arrest and Kiba to chronic renal failure.

With Hige the difficulty was that he was fine one second and then just gone. I wrote a long post in this thread about it back then. With Kiba the difficulty was having the decision be in our hands. We fed him the special food, we did the subcutaneous fluid injections. We tried to make the end of his life as comfortable as possible, but we let him go when he told us it was time.

It still hurts to this day.

Man I'm just gonna send virtual hugs to everyone in this thread. Carlin was right, when you buy a pet, you're buying a small tragedy.

i really feel that. It's been years since my first pair of cats passed and talking about it still threatens tears a bit. Emma was sick but much sicker than I thought and passed while I was at work, which I still regret. Spinoza got his lymphoma Dx and I decided to just to pallative and had a mobile vet some when it got to where he had chest fluid and wasn't breathing comfortably.

It's true, but the love and companionship on both sides far outweighs the tragedy at the end.
