Crusader Kings III General Discussion

A place to talk about the game, even before it's released

Awesome thanks for starting the thread Robear!

I’m going to post here since it’s tangential - who else is doing the Monarch’s Journey in CK 2 to unlock hair styles in CK 3?

Also. I can’t wait to be off work so I can deep dive on all the previews.

I am super excited about this game. Day -100 purchase as soon as it's available.

I really want to start on some of the Monarch's Journey challenges this summer too.

Hello, everyone. Last week I was one of a number of various online video game journalists to be able to take a sneak peek at Crusader Kings 3. And, since the NDA has just run out, I’ve decided to type this up and give my impressions of it.https://testmyspeed.onl/ https://solitaire.onl/ http://essaywriter.fun/

To make a long story short, I love it. To go into more detail, the third game is drastically improved over Crusader Kings 2 to an absolutely amazing degree. While we’ve heard that a lot of the fantasy stuff we’ve come to know and love (rip in peace, Glitterhoof), there’s still a lot of the best mechanics from the game left over from previous games, so I’ll go into those now. If you’ve been keeping track of the game’s Dev Diaries, you may know some of this already.

I look forward to hearing your impressions.

Likewise.

So put me in the category as one of those newcomers who always appreciated CK2 stories from a distance, and even picked up the game and a few DLC when they were cheap or free, but never really played it. The closest I ever got was watching about 6 hours of quill18 do a tutorial video, and booting up the game, but then wandering off and never going back. I've since played other Paradox games like EU4 and Stellaris, so I'm familiar with the way they handle their interfaces but CK2 still looked a bit daunting to pick up and spend the time necessary to try to learn it.

So when I see previews like this, I take this as a sign that this is the one where I'm going to take that shot and jump in. Well, I was already planning to, but it certainly helps.

What are some of the better previews people have found out there so far?

Will finally try one of these out as its hitting Gamepass PC on launch.

Carson would you mind if I asked you some questions?

1. How random is sickness and injury? It feels like in my recent CK games I’ve had a string of heirs all die from really random stuff like rabies despite building hospitals and hiring a good physician.

2. Do you have more control over how you shape your character’s personality traits? I hate how so many choices in the current game force you to pick one of two bad choices.

3. Can Vikings raid? If so, is it more fun than the current game?

Sundown, if you can handle EUIV, you can handle the systems of CK2. Not that you should worry about it now, but they are of the same order of magnitude of difficulty.

I've got mixed emotions about this.

I am super excited about CK3, but will end up having to bump something just to make time to play it.

I imagine that by September I'll have some free time.

My wife, family, and job.

Here’s TJ Hafer’s: https://www.ign.com/articles/crusade... I find him one of the best strategy game writers generally; and he’s deeply knowledgeable about Paradox games specifically (he’s the one who parodies the patch notes).

Excited for this. I'm going to try to get in on the ground floor of it this time so I can keep up.

Obviously in for this, I've logged over a Sands of time in CK2.

What am I missing about unlocks for 3 by playing CK2?

I can’t wait to buy this and then think about playing it!

A few months ago they added in a mode where you start a new game as a specific character, achieve specific goals, and earn points to unlock new appearance customizations in CK3

Yep, it's called Monarch's Journey. They keep adding new ones every couple of weeks, and you can go back and play the older ones any time you want.

This is me with all Paradox games. EU IV, CK2 , Stellaris all in my Library.. maybe a total of 3 hours played. I've come close to pulling the trigger on Battletech a number of times as well.

Guaranteed this ends up in the pile as soon as it goes on sale.. at least I recognize that I shouldn't pay full price for something that I'll never play.

No pressure, guys, but Crusader Kings III might be Paradox’s most important game of all time.

I'm hoping that they manage to find a more Crusader Kings space versus e.g. Stellaris, which I have hundreds of hours in but it doesn't have the same kind of stories you get from CK2. Stellaris tends to have the space empires be on roughly fair footing, which just seems wrong for CK. Crusader Kings is supposed to have messy things happening all over the place.

Oh I’m fairly certain there won’t be balanced powers in crusader kings three. Stellaris is a 4x game (at least to start) so it just needs a different dynamic. Given the starting year in crusader kings three there will definitely be some states that are much more powerful than others.

My hope is that it's less impenetrably inscrutable than CK2, which I tried to wrap my head around, but entirely failed. Even after several hours of playing it, I still couldn't for the life of me figure out how to perform basic functions (e.g. building and controlling units).

They say getting remarried is the triumph of hope over experience, and I feel that is similar to my time with paradox games.

I love the idea of them, but other than Stellaris, I’ve bounced off CKII,HOIIV, and EUIV multiple times EACH!

And YET! I find myself utterly hopeful that this time will be different, that with CKIII’s supposedly better interface I will be able to finally do a true deep dive into the medieval intrigues and plots that I’ve read about and that sound so fun but that I’ve yet to experience.

Here is the video summary of the last month's dev diaries.

Paradox streaming of CK3 will begin in August.

I wonder if I’ll get a sense of how to play by watching some streams in August before the game comes out.

I've purchased the uber edition, or whatever it's called. Really looking forward to this, even if it's still a couple of months away.

I really want to bite on this but am hoping to see somewhere discount it more than 10% before release. Not because Paradox don't deserve my money, just because of, you know, Life.

I promised myself I'd never pre-order a game unless _maybe_ it was time to install it the night before launch, but I bought the uber edition because I'm a weak weak man.
