Fortnite Save The World Friends

So, they finally announced that this is no longer going to be free to play (which is actually a good call in my book) and I decided that I should try this after 4 years of not playing it. Wow, this has changed! First, for those who do not know, the "Save the World" part of Fortnite was the original vision announced in 2011 and was first playable in 2014! The premise is that you and 4 other people of varying character classes build forts out of materials gathered on the map and defend against waves of enemies. It has expanded to god knows how many other gatherings and resource managing things, but gameplay is mostly the same with extra things tossed in to keep it interesting.

It looks the game is going to move to seasonal play similar to Destiny/Division and all those other "games as service" things, which is nice because you can either play as a super dedicated person, or casually. Today, I am here to see if others are interested in playing. Everything is crossed too! Cross console, cross save, and cross buy. I bought access to it on PS4, I have all the same stuff available on my PC now.

If you are interested, my Epic/PSN name is ksmooches, though you only need to add people via Epic as long as you have connected your accounts.

Tagging this thread. I hate competitive Fortnite with a passion of a thousand burning suns, but I like the artwork and world and want to be able to play with my son more. Interested to see where this goes.

I think there might have been a STW thread around, but it may have just been the original Fortnite thread from before Battle Royale. I'm not gonna dig it up. I sometimes play BR, but I just don't have the time to play it and STW and other games, and I prefer STW as long as they're adding content. Anyways, I play on the PC and I'm "deftly" in the Epic/Fortnite friends/social whatever thing.

I played a bit in Beta and it was enjoyable but I disliked how the low level zombies could just bust through walls instead of following any built paths.

Yeah they do "fastest path to where they want to go" so you have to build around that. It works well if you either know the path they are going to use, or if you have people to distract while you build death hallways around them. I had a nice game yesterday where we had like 3 traps setup for the first wave, then went crazy and had auto-kill hallways for the rest of the waves. It felt great...just have to remember to craft new traps before going out, which is something I forget all the time.

Also, if you turn on cross play, your games fill up quick (or you can join others randomly). Just remember, for the love of God, set your mics to mute by default. I had to report a child for harassment because I thought it would kick him out of the game. He came in and just kept asking us to trade with him. When someone responded via text chat that he should stop because no one is trading, he goes, "well i'm gonna keep going until you trade". Then he just kept saying, "trade with me" over and over and over. I muted him and forgot to keep the mute on by default and ran into a similar situation again, but the kids were off talking about trading and left me to defend my storm shield all alone, and 30min into it, we ended up losing because I couldn't keep enemies from attacking multiple sides alone.

I played beta on PC, but got big into it after it Battle Royals first came out and it all got released on PS4. Save the World is by far the better game IMO, but I’m not a big fan of PvP shooters to begin with.

I'm really enjoying it so far. The only annoying part is the kids that come in and talk about trading for 20min and don't contribute to the objective.

I started that thread, and it did get taken over by the Battle Royale aspect of the game. Also, me and Epic no longer get along, so probably better to have this spin-off thread that's started by someone else.

I played the holy hell out of this when it came out; I had rotator cuff surgery in November of 2017, and I had a Cryo Cuff, which is basically a silicone sleeve attached via a hose to a tank of ice water, and it compresses and ices. Phenomenal device, best thing I've ever bought, yadda yadda. Anyways, I could wear it for half an hour, then take an hour off. A Save the World round would generally be 20-25 minutes or so, and Fortnite became one of the ways I stayed sane during that time. I'm sure I put a couple hundred hours into that mode. When I tried it again, it had died, and there was only one other player in the game who just kept repeatedly spamming party requests to me, as apparently seeing another person was so shocking they had to talk about it.

Great mix of exploration, shooting, and tower defense; I had a whole series of base defenses I'd do depending on terrain. I may try this again at some point, but it's going to be hard to try to remember it all . . .

It's changed so much, when I tried to play a couple months ago, I was completely lost.

It took me quite a bit of time to get used to all the new stuff, but there's so much to do now (at lower levels at least) and there's more of a guided campaign type thing added.
