MLB: The Show Catch-All

There were like year-in, year-out threads for it from years past, why not make one big one?

No other game on earth always looks as enticing as MLB: The Show does when the previews start coming out, only for me to realize that I simply don't have the time to invest in really playing it anymore, certainly not compared to the way I would play baseball games back when I didn't need to have a job or was barely employed.

But maaaaaaaannnnnnnnn it always looks good. A note though, at 10:10 - "Pilates Minigame" is one of the least appealing phrases I've ever heard. Game Devs, there is no such thing as a "fun" minigame based on working out in a sports game. Especially when that minigame is essentially required for fast character advancement.

I haven’t finished the video yet but am really happy to hear they are ditching the skill caps. I understood the motivation and when I used to have more time to play I would self limit to keep things more realistic. But time is limited now, and frequently when I play I’m not looking for a big challenge, I just want to be the baseball Hero. I have a nearly maxed out character I’ve been moving to each version that I didn’t import into last years version for that reason. I’m hoping I can bring him over again somehow.

Does anyone have a solid opinion wether 19 will play well on a PS4 (or Slim, which I’ve read has been dropped as a ‘term’, and now is just a PS 4 too)? (And this just for solo play, no on-line)

Thx

Did I dream this up, or is it true the MLB: The Show may be offered on X-Box One and other platforms next year?

It's confirmed to be on Xbox, Playstation, and the Switch in 2021. I'm really hoping there's an unannounced PC version as well.

Thanks for confirming it. Just wish it was for 2020 instead.

Me too. I really hope there's a simultaneous PC release. Same goes for NHL. The PC is a barren wasteland for sports sims and the only sports that support it are either ones I don't care about (NFL) or they've become increasingly gross about micro-transactions (NBA).

I am assuming that when negotiating the new deal, MLB told Sony to go multi, or they were going to give an e cousin e license to a third party publisher like EA or 2K. There is no path to profit competing with The Show, but that also costs MLB money they could make from additional sales.

The Show does t actually sell all that well compared to other sports games. They barely break a million, and often missed when 2K was still in the game. And since Xbox lagged in sales, and Nintendo has lacked horsepower, it became a bad investment for third parties and first parties.

As an aside: if you are baseball play hungry, look to Super Mega Baseball 2. Great physics, play and just heck of a fun game. (RBI baseball is sooo bad compared to this game...except it has MLB license and SMB 2 doen't. But you really won't care with the baseball play)

MLB The Show 20 launches tomorrow.

I started playing The Show '19 because I had it free from PS+ a while ago. Having fun with the Road To the Show mode, but making a knuckleball pitcher seems like a cheat code.

My pitcher who was drafted in the 14th round threw 8 shut outs in AA ball on the way to a 10-0 record before being called up to AAA. Is now 12-1 in AAA with both a combined no hitter (Got pulled in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs for allowing a walk), and an additional perfect game.

It's dumb mindless fun watching the CPU flail away helplessly at the knuckleball that never really has an off day

Glad to see you're playing R.A. Dickey 2012 simulator.
