We're trying out a new type of show where we pick a film we've never seen and we want your ISTYA-style memories on what you think it's about.

Yes, you get to be us!

The first film is ...DEATHSTALKER. Post your vague recollections here, email [email protected], Tweet @istyashow or find us on Facebook.

Here's a trailer to refresh your memories.

The Bugle fans might want to check out their new daily satirical news podcast, The Last Post. Alice Fraser, the host, does some hilarious ad reads for fictitious products.

The Onion is also getting into the daily podcast biz with The Topical. There's only a couple episodes out, but they've been pretty strong.

I was going through XKCD comics recently, and this one came up.

Found another good one (courtesy of 99% Invisible):

History nerds, The Smithsonian institute has a podcast called SideDoor! I've only listened to the latest episode but it's a perfect intro to the show as the host interviews the Secretary of the Smithsonian. He's very open about being honest about our history and not sugarcoating anything, from the hidden contribution of women to the appropriation of black culture.

This is definitely one I'll be going back to the beginning to listen to.

And another good 'un from Radiotopia ℅ 99% Invisible:

Over the Road

Over the Road is an eight-part series that gives voice to the trials and triumphs of America’s long haul truckers. Host “Long Haul Paul” Marhoefer, a musician, storyteller and trucker for nearly 40 years, takes you behind the wheel to explore a devoted community and a world that’s changing amidst new technologies and regulations.

I've never thought I'd listen to a podcast about trucking, but episode one was fascinating. Highly recommended!

In the Off Menu podcast, two British comedians, James Acaster and Ed Gamble, get someone to describe their dream meal. The format gives you a different side of their guests. With the right guest, it's f*cking funny.

This is the best episode, with Greg "Taskmaster" Davies. I unwisely listened to it at work and did myself an injury trying to stifle the guffaws.

The Black Death is like porn for us germaphobes. Our current viral pandemic has renewed my interest in the many outbreaks of bubonic plague over the centuries. This 25 chapter podcast rendition of Daniel Defoe's "A Journal of the Plague Year" published in 1722 is the result of exhaustive research into the London plague of 1665.

The 18th century language is easy to understand with our modern ears, and provides a fascinating "man on the street" account of what actually happened during that horrific time.

Gimlet has a new season of Conviction called American Panic, which is about the Satanic Panic of the 80s. I’m not sure why they didn’t just call it Satanic Panic. Oh, wait. I just realized that there are a lot of people who would be hesitant to listen to anything with the word satanic in the title.

Unrelated: I once had a person tell me that they respected satanists more than atheists, because at least satanists believe in god.

I've been really digging Unwell: A Midwestern Gothic Mystery.

Lillian Harper moves to the small town of Mt. Absalom, Ohio, to care for her estranged mother Dorothy after an injury. Living in the town's boarding house which has been run by her family for generations, she discovers conspiracies, ghosts, and a new family in the house's strange assortment of residents.

It's produced by the same folks who made the exceptional and wonderfully campy post-apocalyptic podcast Our Fair City.

Here's a "back from the dead" two-fer:

We Have Concerns is back! Weekly starting Friday 3rd April.

Common Sense with Dan Carlin is also back... maybe? I haven't listened to the episode yet but Dan has posted his first podcast in three years. Hope he starts publishing regular episodes again.

Hey folks,

I'm cross-posting this from Reddit, but it applies to listeners there, here and everywhere. I hope you can help.

We've got a show coming up that could really help us get more listeners and build the community around the podcast.

When it lands - and you'll know when it does - please share it with as many people as possible. Friends, family, colleagues; on messageboards, message groups, social media and so on.

In the hundreds of shows we've done, representing years of effort, this might be the best chance we have to get more people listening.

Just for completeness (if thats a word), here's the podcast with special guests Steve Molaro, Annie Potts and Mark Hamill.

Our listeners thought it was a joke at first, but, yes, all those people are really on the show.

Dang!! That’s awesome. I would love to have a conversation with Mark Hamill. How was the experience?

They were all lovely and Hamill is surprisingly funny. Please do listen and share it with as many people as possible.

By the way, we spoke to Hamill for about an hour* - so it's good sized show.

*But not all of it made the edit. Some of the audio we're keeping in lockbox by our bed to remind us of special times.

My and a friend are doing an episode by episode run down of the Sopranos:

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas...

It's called Talking Terrific Television because we wanted to future proof it for when we finish that series and move on to the next.

Christopher Moltisanti and Bobby Baccala are doing the same thing. Perhaps you could have the on your show and vice versa.

fun thing i'm listening to and "watching along with", since Farscape is on Amazon Prime.

... What The Frell A couple of queer sci-fi fans (one who is a huge farscape fan, the other a trekkie who's never seen the series before) watch Farscape episode by episode each week.

I've been listening to Naruto Reviewto a Naruto rewatch podcast. One of the people on it has only watched a few eps so it has been fun.

Ooh, thanks for this. I was watching Farscape many years ago at this point but stalled out when the person I was watching it with and I broke up, I've been looking for an excuse to go back to it at some point.

I found watching Twin Peaks to be enhanced a lot by listening to Twin Peaks Rewatch in between episodes, so a podcast sounds like a great way to go through what is also an occasionally bizarre show. And I might be remembering incorrectly, it was many years ago I watched it, but I remember Farscape as being a show primed for a discussion from a queer perspective, so this sounds brilliant.
