Steam Summer Sale 2020 Spend-All

I can't speak for the VR games in your list Rezzy (one day I'll justify spening the money on a VR system, I'm sure!) but Pony Island is a treat, a completely bonkers one, but a treat! I'm yet to play the devs follow up The Hex, bumped it up my to play list, thanks for bringing it back to my attention

Both games are available as a bundle in the sale at 74% off : https://store.steampowered.com/bundl...

I have the Google pixel phone and the dream VR headset that came with it. Lots of fun games in there and played it a ton a couple years ago. But I remember seeing apps that would let you use it as VR for PC games somehow. Still never have tried it but one of these days maybe.

I can't see buying more hardware but if what I have works that would be fun to try a few things.

*Staygold now owns 21 more games*

I sat on my cart ALL weekend and ended up removing Metro: Exodus because it's something I "want" but not a game I'm going to play any time soon so I'll wait till I have gaming space to play it. That said, my big haul this year was split into two parts! Completing my backlog collection and prepping for a Vive Index to arrive within the next month (I've also rearranged my holidays so I can take a 4-day VR weekend in August and just binge the heck out in alternate reality.

Old games:

The Talos Principle - I've had this game in my cart almost every steam sale but never pulled the trigger
Elite Dangerous - also fits in the VR category but I'm ready to be a Space Man!
Sayonara Wild Hearts - Slap the Annapurna publisher logo on a game, add a bouncing soundtrack, and I call that love
DOOM 2016 - I've listened to the soundtrack on youtube twice a week for the past three weeks as I was grinding out a work project. DOOM Eternal is fantastic and just MORE DOOM, but this game is an all time classic. Played (never finished) on PS4 but the PC experience is just so much smoother
Black Mesa - Never played Half-Life. Going to fix that

VR Extravaganza:

(arguably went waaaaaaaay overboard here but when you're plunking down a solid grand+ for a new head set, investing in some games to make it worth it, and saving a couple hundred bucks, seems like a smart play. Did some research into these and couple were part of larger bundles for games I wanted so definitely went the VR buffet route)

Down the Rabbit Hole - Alice in Wonderland in VR. Drugs + VR = 2020?
The Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets
Swords of Gargantua
Moss - A game about a mouse?
Boneworks - I've followed the Developers (Stress Level Zer0) for a while on YouTube and this seems like a formative VR experience I can work my way towards
Beat Saber - the only game not on sale but why even own VR if you don't own Beat Saber
SUPERHOT VR - Super. Hot. Super. Hot.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR - have never made it more than 10 hours into ANY Bethesda open world game so this was probably the dumbest purchase of the bunch but something about being a VR archer/assassin/dragonborn was really appealing
GORN - Rip guys apart in VR
A Fisherman's Tale
Sairento VR
Job Simulator
Space Pirate Trainer - Getting ready to apply for the SPACE FORCE!!!!!!
Budget Cuts
Thumper
Arizona Sunshine

Phew! I think I'm done buying games for the next two years

Pretty sure I'm just going to go in on Warhammer Inquisitor Martyr with all the DLC for $27, I'm just waiting until I get paid again. I missed this deal a couple weeks ago and keep coming back to it.

If anyone is looking at Hardspace: Shipbreaker it's actually 30% off over at GreenManGaming. Might as well save a few more bucks if you're going to go in on it. It's really interesting so far, so I'm looking forward to see what they do with it. Really, any deal on Steam right now should be cross-checked with IsThereAnyDeal.

Worth mentioning in case you hadn't noticed, there is a VR version of this for the same price on sale. I never tried it flat screen but it's pretty fantastic in VR. I wish you received both versions for one but either way you'll have fun I'm sure.

I'm trying so hard not to overbuy, especially because I know I've just started Horizon Zero Dawn, and I'll soon be starting Trails of Cold Steel 2. Both of those are a huge investment of hours. Plus I've got some half-finished games on the backlog, and I want to do a better job of wrapping those up. So, I went looking for some indie games, and bought / downloaded the following:

Wintermoor Tactics Club - Half visual novel, half turn-based squad combat, based around a bunch of misfits in private school who play D&D together. What's not to love? I can already tell it's well written. Estimated at around 8 hours.
Islanders - The minimalist, chill city builder that everyone probably knows about already. About $1.75 on sale. I'd guess it'll be 5 hours or less to finish everything.
Helltaker - This is a weird one. Thematically, it's about a guy who invades hell in an effort to persuade a bunch of hot demons to join a harem -- but, for that premise, it's remarkably tame, and quite snarky. The gameplay is a spatial puzzle, where you have a certain amount of moves to get your guy through a small room with enemies and obstacles. The art style is great, and the music is fun. Best of all, it's free, and took about 1 hour from start to finish.

Well I beat Jedi Fallen order so that means I can buy another game right?

Last halloween I bought some games and actually played them and bought some more once done. I'm thinking about buying two more games for Halloween. On the other hand I haven't gone through that 1000+ bundle I bought. There are probably some scary games in there. hmmmm nope not going through that list. Easier just to buy more games. I'm crying inside.

I can't justify buying games at the moment when the RogueTech mod for BATTLETECH has reinvigorated the game for me.

Also, so many Epic freebies and Xbox Game Pass has ruined sales for me.

Is any of the DLC for Two-Point Hospital worth it, or should I just get the base game?

I'd say the base game of TPH is large enough where you should be just fine digging into that first.

If you find yourself enamored, then dig into the DLC later.

Killer title, btw. One of my absolute favorite management games of the past few years.

The DLC adds fun stuff like new locations, jobs (I think), diseases, cures, and storylines. If you like the base game, they simply make it better. You'll know; if you put in 10 or 12 hours and the DLC start to look like fun, they will be. It's not a complicated game, not a bait and switch. If you like it, you'll like the DLC, in my opinion.

So play some before the sale is up and you'll know.

Thanks all!

Woah! This mod slipped right by me! Thanks for mentioning, Bfgp!

**quasiChaos has jumped over to BATTLETECH thread...**

Cleaned up some gaps in my game catalog.

Valkyria Chronicles - actually thought I had this.
Civil War II
Command: Modern Operations
Victory and Glory: The American Civil War
Company of Heroes Franchise edition
Warsaw

So I've picked up Titanfall 2 on something of a whim and just started playing through the campaign

It's absolutely superb. Like, really, really superb. How come nobody ever bought this?!? The campaign is genuinely brilliant so far, it's fast and slick and easy to control and everything Anthem should be crying itself to sleep over because it couldn't manage it.

I know I'm going to get pasted when I start the multiplayer but holy god I'm sure as hell going to give it a go!

This post makes me so gushingly happy.

Yeah, I bought Titanfall 2 a couple of months ago when it was on disturbingly-low discount from Amazon, and finally started playing it 2 days ago. I'm only a couple of hours in (beginning of chapter 4) and "really, really superb" is a great description for it, even from what little I've seen.

Fun fact: I started playing this right after finishing Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, without quite realizing the developer lineage.

Just spent an hour or so in the Multiplayer. Sure I might not really know what i'm doing but I got a few kills in, got a few titans down, and all in all did OK. Except in one match where one guy pretty much played everyone else by himself. And wiped the floor with us.

Holy crap it's good.

Welp, after a lot of research, discussion and sleeping on it, I have my final list:

  • Dying Light: Hellraid - I'll pretty much buy anything Dying Light at this point.
  • Reassembly Fields Expansion - Been meaning to get this one for ages now, and it was super cheap.
  • Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes - Really been enjoying the Crusades a lot so when this hit Steam, I jumped on it.
  • Astroneer - My usual co-op partner just gushes over this one, so it was time.
  • Earth Defense Force 5 - LOVED the co-op of EDF4, and was told this was even better, so I jumped on it now that it was at its historic low.
  • Survivalist: Invisible Strain - Another co-op game to stream down the line.
  • Constructor Plus - LOVED the original Constructor, and this hit its historic low.
  • Signal Simulator - One of my very helpful community members begged me to try this one.
  • Project 5 Sightseer - A vehicle-based survival game that hit a new historic low and apparently is fun in single player.
  • ADOM - This also hit its historical low, so I'm super excited to finally play it.

Overall I've got a lot of new stuff to chew on for future streams.

Burned most of my points on badges. No regerts.

I picked this up as well after being sold on it by the YT streamer Tomato.

Pro-tip: Looks like the game can be a bit obtuse from the outset, but I noticed one of Tomato's streams covered the basics to get you up and running in his latest visit to the game. Only takes a few minutes but it covers a lot of ground.

(I time-stamped the link.)

Okay, so Jets n Guns 2 has a new game + option (more like D3's torment levels) that is more than what it looks like on the surface.
You get a lot of new equipment: weapons, and utility upgrades.
The levels incorporate new obstacles: both on environment and enemies.

One of the most awesome upgrades is the one that makes the associated weapon do the same damage as your highest weapon. So if you liked the effects of an early weapon but had to get rid of it because its dps dropped off significantly, equip this and your piddly weapon is instantly able to handle whatever you throw at it in perpetuity.

Sorry, Aaron, that guy is seriously annoying. I'm just gonna learn the game on my own lol.

I can dig it.

He certainly has a style. I think he's entertaining as hell in a goofy way, but I can see how it's not for everyone.

So I've got Brigador and Cloudpunk in my cart. Was wondering if anyone's played either game and can give me a 2-second review?

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2...

In spite of the game having been out for some time now, Mandalore dropped a review just last week that practically had me running to press the Buy Now button, lol. I opted for the DE for an extra $3 that includes 4 soundtracks @ 3+ hrs. and an audiobook (no regrets).

Put in a couple hours and I'm pretty smitten at this point. The vehicles just feel amazing. The mobility is responsive & agile, and yes I'd strongly recommend switching the default Absolute settings to Relative as it grants far more fidelity in control. Took me a good hour to wrap my head around, but it was worth it once it clicked.

Environmental destructiblity is super-impressive. Last time I remember having this much fun just leveling everything was years and years ago in Red Faction: Guerilla. It's super satisfying and also nets you bonus cash on Mission Debrief.

Music is pretty glorious if you have an appreciation for thick, heavy synth. Varies in tone from background to pumping and I'm really glad I got the soundtrack edition. Catchy stuff. Lore is pretty dense too. Mostly comes in the form of a Codex that you pay to unlock piecemeal. Strange but the prices are fair and I'd venture that it obliges the player to invest in reading the material as you're paying for it with the money you earn. Very well written.

But that seems like how the game's economy works on a broader scale. You pay to unlock pilots, vehicles, Freelance missions, etc. Seems intelligently integrated as a system overall in that it always keeps bread-crumbing you along with fresh new unlocks.

So all in all it feels like a really comprehensive package that's put together with care. Gameplay feels great with an awesome audio/visual suite and all the trimmings feel smartly integrated. Big ups.

Nice! I’ve owned this for a while and never tried it. Thanks for bringing it to the top of my pile. Hopefully will check out tonight.

Same here. I've got it installed and I'm hoping to get some time in with it tomorrow.

Wow, the reviews on Brigador are spectacular. I'm curious, how arcadey is it, for those of us who are a bit more strategic minded?

That's the thing that struck me. It controls arcade but in practice the game leans tactical.

I think that might have been the disconnect on release as mentioned in the posted review. People were expecting a twin-stick shooter, but it's actually a strategic tactical combat game that just happens to control super fluidly.
