ARK: Survival Evolved - Catch All

Crystal Wyverns can now be cryopoded

Yay we can get rid of our Crystal Wyvern parking lot!

I turned tame time up to 16x on my private server. Still takes like 30 minutes for some of the dinos at level 150, which is more than enough time to stand around shoving tranqs into a dino for my taste. The default timers really require a large clan to rotate responsibility for some things.

Tried to cryopod a crystal wyvern and it didn't work.

It's working now.

Was it a herbivore? They take ages because you only really have the choice of berries, and then the appropriate kibble, which you have to craft.

Carnivores tame at different rates depending on what you feed them, Prime Meat will tame quicker than regular Raw meat. Raw Mutton will tame quicker than Prime Meat. The appropriate kibble will tame quicker than Raw Mutton, etc..

Another thing to consider is that the harvesting rate is high enough to gather the needed resources to tame it. Most official servers have the harvesting rates set 1x during the weekdays. For 16x taming may be set the harvesting to 5x or 6x just like they do on official small tribes does on the weekends.

You also can increase the dino food consumption rate to reduce taming times.
I mostly use these settings, which has the taming rate at 5x and food consumption rate at 3x.

Been awhile but I think it was a Theriz. I was using the appropriate kibble (prior to the kibble update), one problem that tame had is its food drops very slowly. Quetz also take a long time from my recollections. Probably been about a year since my friends and I have played though.

Well, you're welcome back any time

Just got this for free from Epic. Is there a GWJ server, tribe, or something?

There is, but apparently the Epic version isn't compatible with the Steam + the mods they are running.

If you could manually install the mods, theoretically you could join the server using a -crossplay switch line in the game file. But I don't know of any way to download the mods from Steam and install them manually. Some people were able to download the mods on a steam account but the file they got was not a .mod so it would not work by just copying it into the mods folder.

The Epic version doesn't even look for mods currently, even if you did manage to get the right files in the right place.

Well sh*t.

Btw, what's with all the glowy things in the sky (aside from my corpse markers)?

Beacons, they have loot inside of them. What is determined by the color (also what level you need to be open them). If they have a halo around them, the quality can be above grey, plus there are twice as many items.

Apparently they are working on Mod Support for the EGS version.

IIRC, it's Epic working on general mod support for their client/store. Once they get that done the Ark devs will only have to update the Epic version to remove the block on looking for mods.

Arise thread! I have a server setup for a couple of friends. The more the merrier. If you have Ark on Steam (Connecting through Epic has been near impossible) and you are interested in a fairly fresh server, let me know and I can give you the information. I honestly don't know much about the game. I've tried playing it but basically just setup the server for my friends. I run it through Unraid so don't have any additional maps (yet) or mods as I'm not really sure how to do any of that. However, if the server gets popular enough and there's reason to install other maps, I will look at setting that up.

I'd love to play a world without worrying about griefing... I have it on Epic and Stadia though... lol and I'm building a minecraft world and playing AC Valhalla.....

But I am interested. lol

Last time I hosted, the issue with cross platform Steam and Epic was the mods that we used. Did that ever change?

I'm hosting the game on an UnRaid box. That being said, I'm not really sure how to install mods. I just know when I tried to connect through Epic I had to go into the game, type in my server address in a window, and then it ended up timing out.

Manta, no griefing on the world that I have created. Shoot me a private message and I can give you the info in case you ever get it on Steam. You can try connecting through Stadia, that is something I have never tried.

I believe you have to enable accepting of Epic clients by adding -crossplay to the launch options of the server.

It also looks like there is zero mod support in the Epic version (to answer my own question), but then if Stadia is also being used, I don't there's any hope of mods for that either

In other news, I do plan to run a lightly modded Ark server for the new Free DLC Map - The Lost Island. This won't be for a little while yet as I'm still playing on both my Minecraft 1.18 server, and now Project Zombie B41MP server, but when those have run their course, Ark is looming for anyone interested

I did that but it didn't seem to fix it. I would love to get Epic clients working as well since I know a lot of people own it there. I don't plan on installing any mods so I don't think that should be a problem. I might work on it a little more today because I hate when things don't work

Edit: I did find this information:

* Server must launch with -crossplay command line argument for epic users to see it in their server browser.
* Server cannot have a password, epic users cannot join servers with passwords right now for some reason (gives various errors if they try anyways).
* Server cannot have mods otherwise epic users cannot see it.

So, one and three are taken care of. However, I can't see running my server without a password. I don't want anyone to be able to join. Not sure how to get around that.

Yuck. I don't even think there's an in-built whitelist function to use instead of a password. I certainly wouldn't be going down a fully open route either..

Don't change things on my account.

Ark is currently free on Steam for those who dont already have the game, OR only have it on another platform (I believe Epic gave it away for free, and it's also in GamePass).

Having the game on Steam usually makes it easier to easier to connect to multiplayer servers that use mods - when connected to Steam Workshop, they will automatically download and update when needed.

There's has also been another Free DLC map released - Fjordur.

This marks the second free map available since I last ran the Ark Cluster, the other being Lost Island. While I'm not in a position to host the full whack any more (thanks a lot, energy prices), it is mighty tempting to make a mini cluster of the two maps I haven't played....

There was also a very short trailer for Ark 2, supposedly releasing next year - think we should just carry on this thread, or start a fresh one for that? I don't mind starting it, but also dont mind just rolling this one into a general 'Ark' thread.

I vote for a new thread for the new game

New thread. IGN is now reporting ARK 2 is shaping up to be a very different game.
