Deep Rock Galactic

I'm getting the impression that the player base might be a bit low to support this game in the long term, which would be a shame. I had a fun time playing with a few GWJers from the US time zone last week, but since then I've tried to join pick up groups but, a) there are very few games available at lower haz levels (mostly no games available at all actually), and b) the games I have joined have been extremely chaotic with people apparently not caring much about friendly fire. Perhaps I've had bad luck. I know, Neutrino, we said we'd try and catch each other for a game at some point since we are in the same time zone - we shall have to make that happen!

One of the issues is there isn't a super meaningful "endgame" loop at this point. Now the good news is that end game takes A LONG time to get to, but once you've promoted all four characters your grind is essentially just for cosmetics and weapon/cosmetic cores. Since the core hunt and deep dives are on a weekly reset and only available once per character, outside of the 3 mission core hunt chain and the two deep dives, there's really only 2 - 3 hours of weekly engagement that's required in the game and not much more to do other than if you just like playing. The good news is this takes a while to get four promotions (basically 100 character levels taking around 1.3 missions on average per character level and a spitball estimate of 18 - 20 minutes per mission means you need 50+ hours of game time to hit the quadruple promotion. Anecdotally I'm at 76 hours :hides in shame: and almost at the quad promotion)

I know that "end game" probably self selects for more Hazard 3+ missions which might be part of what you're seeing in difficulty finding sessions kergguz. It could also just be a reluctance by people to have public session games? But also people playing around the mission reset could be a factor. The weekly missions reset on Thursday so I'm guessing there's more players Thursday through Sunday and less Monday through Wednesday

Thanks staygold. That information about the reset is interesting- I have generally been looking for games monday - wednesday, so I will perhaps try again tonight.

Sure let's do it

Just that I couldn't find a lower skill level public game at 10pm (UK) the last two times I've played. Sorry I'm not trying to upset anyone... asking a genuine question because I've enjoyed when I HAVE played in a good group.

Not upset, just wanted to understand the issue.

I picked this up entirely on a whim and am completely hooked. I've berated friends in the same timezone to pick it up so I can get a regular game.

You're GMT +1 aren't you? We could get a euro zone team at this rate. Neutrino and I are both interested.

Was a fun game yesterday with kergguz, I need more practice! A Euro team for one or two games a week sounds good to me

Almost 100 hours logged (in just over a month, whoops! I guess you could say I like the game) and hit the quadruple promotion across all classes. Regular Deep Dives are pretty easy at this point. Haven't completed an Elite Deep Dive, probably because I keep trying to do it with a random queue and there are some people who just have no idea what they're doing in this game at all. Hopefully once we get enough GWJ folks promoted the E.D.D. will become feasible.

I think I'm essentially entering a "maintenance phase" with the game. Once you promote there's really no benefit to promoting again so I'm mostly logging in around the weekly reset to grab the core hunt, deep dive, and weekly assignment, which seems like "a lot" of content but is really only 9 missions (plus the EDD if that ever becomes something that's a bit more palatable) and 3 hours max. I'm not complaining, because having a fun place to check in for 3 hours a week and still get a bit of progression is one of the "kinder" grinds in persistent games that's out there. We'll see. It's become my "go to" chill game. I can pretty much just power down the brain and hang out underground, mining, shooting bugs, just chill. I like it. A lot.

Have promoted 2 classes once. Working on Driller, then scout. Haven't done deep dives yet... just sitting in the shallow pool. Wouldn't mind doing some with other GWJers.

Marsh and I happened upon the guntower event yesterday and were scratching our heads on how to beat it (we didn't). But this game still keeps me interested many many hours later.

Yes, was a good time. More dwarfs (dwarves??) required.

Anyone still need to do the elite deep dive of the week? I haven't done mine yet.

Anyone up for a weekly Deep Dive/Elite? Randos are seriously a mixed bag.

Is there a regular night for this?

I don't know of anything scheduled. But people start filtering in the Discord channel most nights between 8-10 Eastern

Ok, I'll try to drag my ass from Rocket League, I want to play more of this. Stupid family.

Anyone up for a DeepDive tonight? Should be on around 9:30pm EST

I printed this out yesterday while I was working.

A flurry of posts and then nothing. Since this is $20 on Steam right now I have some questions that I don't want to clutter the deals thread with.
Is this holding up? Does it have a clear end-game? Does single-player simply feed into online play? Are short sessions possible? What happens if you have to quit suddenly while in a session?

It holds up great - especially if you have at least one co-op companion to ensure some level of coordination. That being said, if you play single player, you get a very competent robot to help you out.

Single player and multiplayer are effectively the same - you characters can play both (you actually have four classes you level up).

Short sessions are very possible - especially if you're SP.

If you drop, your spot opens until another player jumps in. No penalty (outside of losing out on some of the rewards for the mission you left).

I’ve played only single player so far, and have gotten a couple dozen hours of enjoyment out of it. I keep telling myself that I should try MP one of these days, but the bot is perfectly competent and helpful.

Ping me on Steam and we'll make it happen.

Some of us still play occasionally in the evenings. Check out the Discord for a voice channel, or create one if you're playing and other people may drop in.

I'll do it! I've been meaning to jump in for awhile.

Yeah we have groups of 2 to 4 folks on Discord playing several nights a week. I am still having a lot of fun with it after more than 100 hours.

Purchased. Thanks for all the input!

It's definitely fun, but, repetitive.

I bought it for a friend the other day and we did 2 missions. I think he liked it so we'll be playing again. Maybe tonight.

Almost a week later and I finally got to finish a non-tutorial expedition. Had an interesting experience where there was a long looping tunnel that ended in a large cavern dense with obstructions and raised paths. One little corner at the top of the cavern intersected with the tunnel, so there was a little hole where I nearly fell to my probably doom.

The fun bit came when after collecting all the minerals the mission wanted my mule confidently ran through the dense maze-like cavern and then casually strolled straight up a sheer wall and through that tiny hole into the tunnel above. Cue my panicked "Which of these gigantic branches of the cavern had the mouth of the tunnel and which tier was it on?!" I made it through, but I was cursing that damn robot the whole time! Why even send a dwarf when the company has wall-climbing spider tanks? I had fun.

oh... you haven't even SEEN the spider tank. Her name is BET-C.
