Counterpoint: grapefruit are just overgrown oranges filled with spite and regret.

Tiny house and van life videos.

Only 3g of sugar per can! I think 15 calories. It's essentially 90/10 water/juice. The biggest down side of these is the financial guilt of knowing that I could buy a bottle of grapefruit juice and mix it with plain seltzer for a third of the price. In fact...I think I might just go do that.

So true. I think that's why it pairs so well with whiskey.

Grapefruit juice blocks an enzyme that metabolizes some medications so you can end up with more of the drug in your system than you should.

Is that what the mechanism is? I always wondered, once I found out. Used to love the stuff....

Cytochrome P-450. The "gotcha" on every medical school pharmacology exam.

I taught mini-sorb how to ride a bicycle today. I know it’s not much in the major scheme of things but I did feel like I’d earned a few Dad points and I’m inordinately proud of her.

That is mega dad points!

Awesome!

Dad high 5 - right there with you. Got my kid up on two wheels a couple weeks ago

I love small businesses. Is there a small business appreciation thread here? Do any goodjers own a small business?

My wife never learned to ride a bike because her mother was ultra-protective/paranoid. She has such a hard time with it now and is basically scared of going outside her comfort zone on a bike. You did good pops.

BLOOD MACHINES. On shudder.

It's....i don't even know how to describe it. Here's a trailer.

It's like they took a french graphic novel and mixed it with heavy metal album covers, an infinite amount of neon and a heavy synth track.

Basic plot (kinda spoilers, i guess but...it's not really that kind of experience): Two hunters shoot down an AI controlled ship. A naked lady with an inverted glowing neon cross over her unmentionables erupts from the skin of the ship and flies into space. The hunters follow. I think a battle cruiser ends up being taken down by interpretive dancing spaceship lesbians and then turns into a BIGGER naked lady.

It's QUITE THE THING, is what i'm saying.

I have managed to get back into cryptic crosswords and they really do help switch my brain off from the news at the moment. It gives me something to speak about with my father over digital means as we can discuss clues. It's really nice to have that connection again even if not face to face.

I've switched back to Sudoku puzzles before bed. Looking at Twitter was not calming reading. So if I'm not in a book, I will do puzzles as my laying in bed wind down.

There’s a mobile game called Sidewords which is kind of a mashup of scrabble and sudoku. If I’m having trouble falling asleep I play that. I don’t find it soothing so much as it taxes my brain to the point of exhaustion. Pretty effective sleep aid.

Ooh sounds good I’m going to look at that now thank you!

If you're doing one of the British newspaper crosswords and you want to improve, I recommend Fifteen Squared. They will make you feel bad when they complain that a crossword that took you all day is too easy, but they'll explain each answer, which is invaluable.

I really like that the forums here display the name of the person who made the most recent post (and I'm bummed that it's not there on the mobile template). When a thread suddenly blows up and the number of posts keeps going up but the most recent posts are all from the same people, it's a good sign that the thread has devolved into a slap fight and isn't really worth reading at the time.

Thanks i'll have a look. I usually do the Guardian and Private Eye Crosswords when i get the time. The Private Eye one is a bit easier for getting my eye back in as I am a long way from my uni days sat doing them every day!

Nice! I do the Graun too.

Or when you see the same user has made the most recent post on 10+ threads, in which case, you can be pretty guaranteed it's spam

Or it's me checking the forums when I just wake up. So... yeah, spam.

Yeah hold on. I end up with the most recent posts in 3-5 threads a couple times a week..

Ditto. Of course, when I'm the most recent poster on multiple threads, it's almost always due to my thread necromancy.
Arise Thread! Let us discuss this game that came out 3 years ago that I am just now drawing out of my pile!

Just a simple dumb thing, but fixing a drifty Switch joycon. Twelve bucks for a kit with a new stick and all the tools, and it took me about a half hour to get the thing working again.

Which kit did you buy? Are there more than one? I have that problem with my left joycon, and Nintendo's repair services are not working at the moment.

Nice.
That was one of the first things me and my 6yo did when we went into lockdown in March.
She's doing great on it now.
By the end of summer she may be ready for a multi-gear bike.

This one:
Veanic 3D Replacement Joystick Analog Thumb Stick for Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Controller - Include Tri-Wing & Cross Screwdriver Tool + 2 Thumbstick Caps . There are others on amazon with different tools and numbers of replacement sticks, but I got the most basic one.

It didn't have any instructions so I used this video which was very clear about what to do:
