Rocket League Catch All

How would buying credits help you win a game? You just use them to buy cosmetic stuff or entry into the rocket pass.

I think the post from mardy is a (not so) clever ploy to get folks to click the very legit looking URLs he included.

I'm reporting the post and the user.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. A bit longer con then normal though.

I reported it first thing this morning. Did a double take and read it again and was like oh yeah, spam. At least it's on the previous page now.

At least it wasn’t the outright pornographic images someone posted on other threads this morning

Nope that was mine.

My bad, Fennec confusion. What a Save!

Looks like double XP started today and is going until Tues for the holiday weekend.

In honor of Heatseekers reappearance, I present highlights from it's first go round.

Several feeling were hurt to make these clips.

Are we playing that for bottle rockets or are we protesting against it?

Not that I would play it any better drunk but I might hate it less.

Think I'd rather play 4s.

I found it more fun against pubbies than when we filled the room— then I started to feel bad. Flaming, you and I should team up with someone else and have another go.

I am totally down.

There's a lot more clips when Heatseeker is going on

I love the Flaming/Anti double steamroll at 4:00. That was fun.

That was fantastic.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but reading the aging gamer thread made me wonder what my rank ceiling realistically is at 51. I've been pretty much stuck at around Diamond one in duos for the last year or so despite spending too much time in free play and training packs (which I actually enjoy about as much a playing). I feel like I'm getting better still, but it's not showing up in the rank and realistically I know there's a lot of diminishing returns going on at this point. As a disclaimer, I've never been particularly good at video games even when young so it's hard to know what's age and what's just lack of talent.

Anyhow, just wondering if we'd see an age/rank correlation here at all.

Panda and I had that discussion a few months ago. I think he's older than me and still made it to champ. But I don't think I'm going to get there.

Progress is not iterative. You can't expect training (in anything, not just this) to show up in a nice linear function mapped to results.
More importantly, if you are having fun training and playing that in and of itself is the point. If you feel yourself getting better, you probably are and eventually it may show up in rank, but its not guaranteed to.

I'm 44 and have never made it above Gold 3, so I think plywood is doing great!

I'm done.

Uninstalled.

People are awful and f*ck this game for making me have to interact with them. Never will I have to deal with an asshole playing for the other team for 4 minutes and refusing to forfeit and wasting my goddamn time.

Not here at GWJ no but I'd say it is too small a data set to really judge anything by

That sucks dude. I have text off to filter toxicity, but that wouldn't stop that sh*t. I'd be happy to play with you so you don't have to get matched with pubbies.

Yeah, I ran into a similiar situation the other night. Teammate and I went down like 3-0 really early, he was saying how much I suck amongst other things, so I requested a forfeit and he basically says no I want to make you suffer through this.

Last night I played a game of 2's and the guy and I end up partying up after our game. Next game we lost badly and he asked why I'm not playing as good as the previous game and that he has to go so he leaves the party. Well the very next game we get matched up together again and win again. First off, it's not like he was playing flawless in the game we lost, secondly, and I know it can be frustrating at times, but I wish people would realize that people have off games sometimes and just because that one particular game they may have made a couple mistakes, doesn't mean that is how they always play.

Yeah I turned chat off back at the end of last year, made things better for a while.

I talked to panda some too. Playing with y'all is great but with an 18 month old and another kid on the way I don't see coordinating time to be getting any easier for a while. And pubs are just not fun. Need to stop wasting time on something that isn't fun.

Fair enough. One thing that has helped me get through the toxicity wall is trying to remember how many of these asshats are kids. At 46, my definition of kid is anybody below 25. Somehow it helps assuming it's somebody who doesn't know better. But they still should know better. It helps temper my response in either ignoring it or trying to find positivity in the situation.

I know I've said it many times but I have all text and all quickchat off, even for own team. I basically think everyone I don't know out there is an arse and even a "good game" or a "nice shot" at the appropriate time is someone being stupid.

Also with all chat off when I see someone on my own team quitting (and not forfeiting) I basically just turtle and play goalie. Since I only play solo que competitive, I'm just used to idiots at this point.

As an interesting side note, a few months ago I was in a game and I think we actually won. From a personal score standpoint I think I did well in the game but I guess some dude on my team was challenging me to 1 on 1s... I have all chat off so wouldn't have known, I don't accept friend requests from people I don't know so I probably ignored it immediately when it came through steam... then I check that I have some sort of notification on steam and this dude went to some random screenshot I took of Rogue Legacy from 2 years ago to post a comment and talk trash to me and how I ran away from a challenge

People are just stupid, and I've accepted that. Now my screenshots are also private so I thank this guy for helping me with my privacy settings.

I love the 1v1 challenges, like that is the measure of who is the better 2v2 or 3v3 player. "Hey idiot, we are the same rank, if you were sooo much better than me than you wouldn't be the same rank as me."

Heh is this common? With no chat I've never seen it before. I applaud this guys persistence to track down a 3 year old screenshot to comment on and issue his challenge.

Used to see the "1v1 me, bro" at gold rank a lot. Maybe some at plat. Seemed to have went away at higher levels.

Some people when they have a teammate quit will ask someone to sit out so it's still 2v2 or 1v1 instead of unbalanced. But sorry, I've had enough teammates drop intentionally or accidentally that it all balances out. Just take your L and move on to the next game.

How would you recommend a brand new player start learning Rocket League?

Personally I tell them to avoid multiplayer and start with the tutorial and freeplay and then the modes against bots however the main reason people try RL is the multiplayer with friends. The problem is that there is no multiplayer mode in RL that is friendly to players of mixed skill and the matchmaking is actively hostile against mixed skill teams (even in casual modes) to the point where it constantly ramps the average MMR in casual matches if one player is higher than their teammates at all.

RL seems to assume many new players are smurfs if you win a single match (whether you helped or not) and it throws you against harder opponents right away unless you lose a bunch. In ranked my kids (on brand new accounts without me) got thrown against people who could aerial after just a couple games.

If RL goes free to play I really hope they work on the new gamer experience. The Chinese free to play version has some added niceties like a line that tells you exactly where the ball is going and extra tutorials. Very likely we’d see a ton of new smurfs immediately ruining the game for new players. My kids definitely run into smurfs down in bronze/silver.

One thing RL should definitely do for new players is not overwhelm them with lots of cars and items. Just give them a few basic presets to choose from and get them into gameplay.

I think the best mode for new players would be chaos. It is very hard for one player, no matter how good, to dominate a chaos match where your teammates are smacking you as much as the ball and it’s such a hectic mess of cars slamming around that new players have fun. It worked pretty well with my co-workers.
