Great news!!

That is great! I also recommend Scrubs on Hulu.

M*A*S*H is also on Hulu! And Doogie Howser, M.D.!

Two weekly shop done. More traffic. Work happening on a local building site. More marauding single basket folk who look sheepish as they walk down the middle of the isle past all the people trying to social distance. I didn’t wear a mask, which I perhaps should, but it isn’t mandated. I was persuaded to smart shop where you scan as you go it was a good thing to do and I may continue to do it once this is all over.

And Cheers!! My wife and I started rewatching this. Man, it's still hilarious. It's held up really well.

I suppose it's held up aside from Sam's womanizing. There's an episode in the first season involving the regulars being homophobic that I thought was going to be cringe-worthy, but it ended up being really positive. And:

Wikipedia wrote:

The episode won a GLAAD Media Award, and the script's writers, Ken Levine and David Isaacs, were nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award.

It does deal in some positive ways with Sam's previous alcohol addiction, albeit when he's surrounded by beer-swilling regulars.

Still, I was surprised at how well it's held up. I watched the pilot episode of MASH, and it was less easy to watch again.

What? Ken Levine wrote for Cheers?

Is a NORM! not entitled to the sweat from his brow?

Maybe off topic, but I am in isolation for at least 24-48 hours while I await the results of my corona test. Can anyone recommend one of these shows?

She-Ra (the new one)
The Witcher
The Castlevania

Haven't seen She-Ra yet, but I recommend the other two.

I want to order a mask with some custom art on it, but I can't decide what art I want. Complete decision paralysis. This is why I never got a tattoo.

I saw a picture of one with a Zoidberg mouth drawn on, but didn't see it for sale.

Found pic (friend found on insta):

So, I’m not doing okay.

We left Iowa City to got to the in-laws in Davenport, IA and it just is like a different world. No one wears a mask, they don't social distance, hell there is an auction going on.

And I don't get it. I walked into a convience store and there was the classic "no shirt, no shoes, no service" sign and everyone was compling. No "evil fascist state Female Doggoing" , no whining about "freedom". People just wear shoes and shirts.

Why they f*ck is that so easy when it is just about showing your chest, but a mask which is about saving lives is a huge issue.

Damm we don't really deserve to survive. Maybe the cockroaches will do better.

Masks are now part of the culture war because people are stupid.

I've thought for a while now that humanity isn't worth saving, thanks mostly to our inaction on climate change. The fact that we were able to last all of 3 months in trying to prevent the spread of coronavirus just reaffirms that position.

I would request that we keep this thread clear of sh*tting on people that we disagree with. Per the OP,

This pandemic is going to be a tough time for us wherever we are. The goal of this topic is to suggest and discuss coping mechanisms to get us through this. I expect it to primarily focus on mental health but could also include physical health, diet and exercise, hygiene, recipes, shopping tips, techniques for working from home, how to keep yourself or your kids entertained, and more. Venting related to the above topics is encouraged!

sh*tting on people who don't wear masks , waxing nihilistic about the fate of humanity, and generally wallowing in negativity are all off-mission for this thread.

The sentiments and guidelines of the OP sadly can be lost as one is clicking through the new unreads of a forum. And, though it isn’t healthy, being angry at those I disagree with as become a part of the coping. Thanks for reiterating the original guidelines, as it kept me from replying with anything too unproductive.

I’m building models, trying to include my kids. They paint the “base coat” I go over with more of what I actually want and call it a “skim coat” to just even things out. My son snaps them together. So far we have only done very simple Star Trek ship models. Have the movie Enterprise-A/Refit constitution coming tomorrow and about a dozen more on the amazon list.

Haven’t built a model since.... 15, 16...? 3 models in and I’m feeling a little (very little) more confident with the water decals.

Even as the author of that open (with some advice from GWJ Staff) I think it can be difficult to define what is going off topic. I definitely want people to be able to vent about things that are stressing them out. For example, venting about masks being out of stock, AOK. Venting about people at your favourite store not wearing masks and making you feel uncomfortable when you shop there, still OK. Venting about people of a certain political or religious belief not wearing masks, not really OK. Referring to the post above, talking about a population in a certain area with a widely understood demographic, the line is starting to get fuzzy I guess. Sorry, that probably helps no one but I encourage people to keep posting.

People who don't wear masks in public are selfish and endangering all of us AND it makes me feel sad, uncomfortable and really depressed that we're all going to be stuck in various degrees of spikes and waves for months (years?) here in America, because they couldn't be bothered to just put a piece of cloth over their face.

~mod~ ad hominem argument, not relevant to the thread. -Amoebic

I think we can probably rule out saying "my locality hasn't had a surge in infections and therefore it's not important to wear a mask or practice social distancing" as a useful narrative.

My personal odds are fairly good, even if I do get the virus, but that's not true for all the humans I care about - more to the point, even if that wasn't the case it would be irresponsible of me to avoid doing the bare minimum and wear a mask. If there is the slightest chance it would help keep others safe, the minor inconvenience of wearing a mask is well worth it.

On topic, I deal with a global pandemic by following the science and doing everything I can to reduce the risk of infecting others.

I know I've been impressed by the number of people wearing masks as Iive in what Paleo would call "Banjo Country." First time I headed out with a mask I thought I'd be the only one, but everyone was wearing them, and even keeping their distance in stores.

Things are more dangerous right now than they were before masks became a political issue and before governments started “opening”.

To cope with this reality I need to redouble my efforts meditating and getting exercise when I can. Nothing else has helped me cope with forces beyond my control.

Unfortunately the past 2 weeks I’ve barely slept as I’ve had a pinched nerve which is causing terrible pain. So my exercise program has taken a dive. All I can do is keep working to recover.

Most people in my area are wearing masks and making at least a token effort to observe distancing. I have serious concerns about these habits going forward though, since all the talk is about moving on to the next phase of opening things up, despite increasing infection numbers. Truly mind boggling to me.

Also, the general consensus is that e-learning was a huge failure. I don’t see any way that school won’t be back in session in the fall. I have a child that is extremely at-risk, and two other kids. I will get a medical home-bound schooling schedule for my son, but what good does that do if the other two bring it home?

~mod~ You’re trying to have the mask debate again in a passive aggressive way in the wrong place while attempting to use thread derailment at others objecting to your insistence to do so. Derailment and removed. - Amoebic

No more baiting and condescension please. I get that there will be heated disputes from time to time but this is not the place. It's far outside the stated scope. Thank you.
