I can't be the only one who actually likes the modern-time / fourth-wall-breaking aspect of the AC games, right? Man, I eat that stuff right up.

I've always been a fan. It's goofy as hell, but I like it. My biggest complaint is it doesn't always seem like Ubisoft knows where they're going with it, but I still look forward to more of it with each game.

I've only played a few in the AC series but I don't mind it too much. I wouldn't care if it went away. If they knew how to use it to make grand sweeping plot points I'd say go ahead and keep it but seems like Ubi just keeps it in there for now.

There is an Assassin's Creed stream about to start I think. There is supposed to be a teaser but precisely what's going on I'm not sure.

Watching someone photoshop the announcement graphic is a weirdly compelling way to do a teaser. I’m thinking AC: Valhalla based on what’s come up so far.

It's still going on. Jeez.

I'm keeping it on in the background for the excellent Assassin's Creed music and just checking occasionally to see what's changed.

I just turned it on a few minutes ago, and am enjoying the heck out of it.

Edit: Also, it's making me appreciate how little I know about modern digital artistry.

Yeah, not having an artistic bone in my body, watching the techniques on display here is really eye-opening.

It really surprised me how much is based on ‘copy this thing, paste it over here, stretch it out a bit, recolour it’.

I was thinking the literal exact same thing. And this is not to make that effort sound at all reductive in any way - clearly the artist is tremendously skilled, and is able to leverage a library of existing work to build upon.

In any case, the stream is over, and Assassin's Creed: Valhalla was just announced.

Tomorrow at 8am PST for the trailer.

Called it!

Oh for sure, it takes amazing skill to select, visualise and mix elements like that, almost like a visual version of the composition that really good music producers do.

This is the fourth(?!) AC game I've completed in the last three months, so I may be done with the Creed for a little while. It's been a good run, and I'll probably be there for the inevitable Assassin's Creed: Viking Raid that will show up in another year or two.

The hype train has left the station.

Valhalla topic.

Already one here.

Just cause it's awesome... she really made that shot. They got upset the ball went out of frame.

I can’t believe how gorgeous the Fate of Atlantis DLC’s first chapter is.

Looking at my trophies, it’s been nearly a year since I last played. I had unlocked Elysium, got my first main objective, and then just never came back. I got into the groove without too much trouble. The couple deaths I’ve had came from forgetting the right controls for dodging or parrying. I’ll get it down though. So far I’m more interested in how this all ties into Layla’s story than the actual plot inside Elysium. It’s really cool talking with the Isu, though. And again, it’s just beautiful.

Don't tell me that - I've got too much Stay at Home gaming to do as it is...!!!

The vistas are incredible, but riding through the fields, with flowers and butterflies flying through the air, is also gorgeous. And there is variety in how the 4 different regions look and feel, so I didn't find myself getting numb to it as I played.

I've undermined 2 out of the 4 regions available. There's a sidequest to liberate humans in each region from Persephone's control by knocking them out, so I had to go back to one of the regions I'd previously completed. I'd say don't be too completionist about each region until you get that sidequest.

The morphed abilities you unlock are all ones that I never unlocked previously, so I wasn't too excited about them. I could respec to unlock them now, but the DLC throws ability points at you, so I'm just unlocking them normally.

Have you seen that Star Trek: TNG episode where Dr. Crusher is caught in a warp bubble, and her perceived reality is bent in such a way that everyone on the Enterprise mysteriously disappears one by one, and nobody remembers anything about those who have left, until finally it's Crusher and Picard on the bridge, and then Picard disappears and it's just Crusher talking to herself?

That's what's playing in my head when I stealthily clear out an enormous Spartan war camp, until it's just one last peon wandering around all by himself, thinking everything is just fiiiiine.

crap I got bored with AC odyssey 2 weeks ago as I was exploring DLC tombs now I need to go back as I thought it was getting old. Dang it! lol

Finished the first Fate of Atlantis episode. Despite how gorgeous the scenery is, I did lose patience with the narrative by the end. It seemed like they were going for a whole double agent thing, but it felt really poorly done. Or I just misinterpreted the whole thing. Everyone seemed to know what everyone else was doing, except when the plot decided they didn’t, and it seemed full of choices to make with little context for making an informed choice. I wasn’t really invested in anything going on. part of that is likely that it’s been nearly a year since I initially started it and may have forgotten some of the setup. But I recall these complaints from the base game as well. Here’s hoping Valhalla does better in that regard.

On to episode 2. The scenery is a bit muddy for my tastes, but Hades is a compelling character so far.

While it’s a drag in the visuals department, I’m surprised how much I’m enjoying the second Fate of Atlantis episode. At least early on, it’s more non-linear. You have some overarching goals, and can wander the zone doing side quests and picking off The Fallen, which is this episode’s version of the Mercenaries system from the base game. Some side quests will take you to them, while others can just be found out and about in the world.

While exploring Hades, this episode seems focused on examining the people lost during Kassandra’s journey. It could be people she killed herself, or allies and family who were taken from her. There’s some nice closure given to some events from the base game. The writing overall just feels better than the previous episode.

I’m not really sure how far along I am in this one, but I’m definitely a fan.

And Hades is down. Really enjoyed it all the way through. Final boss fight was a little meh, but otherwise, some really solid stuff there. There's a lot of reflecting on your actions in the game, and the writing and quests overall were just top tier for the game.

Definitely curious how the third episode is going to shake out.

There are so many quest names with references in them. I remember two Metric song titles.

I must confess, the identity of the Cult leader was quite a surprise to me.

Yeah, me too. I mean, even after I had all the clues, I was in denial.

I recently tried playing this again on PC. I get this weird stutter where the FPS dips to the 0 or 1. It is very annoying. I never had this issue before when I played, same system, a year ago.

I am playing it on a 2080ti, 32GB RAM, and i7 9700k, SSD. I verified the files, uninstalled MSI afterburner and completely uninstalled/cleaned the Geforce drivers and reinstalled them. Still same issue. Wondering if someone had this issue and was able to figure out a fix.

Is your page file on your SSD?
I recently moved mine to HDD to free up space, and it caused massive stuttering in COD Warzone.

Sorry, my game's been running pretty smoothly.
