Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Can I complete each in any order?

Yes. Each will introduce a new ability that can be helpful in other areas. Here is a suggested first area based on the usefulness of the ability:

Baur's Reach

I just finished this game up on normal difficulty. This is one of my favorite games I’ve played recently. Probably behind Control, but maybe better than Jedi Fallen Order. A couple times I started to get a little frustrated, but never to the point I didn’t want to play. Much much less frustrating than Hollow Knight. Hollow Knight took glee from kicking me in the balls. I will say that some of the sequences in Hollow Knight were more rewarding to complete, but at the price of my sanity.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this stays in my top 10 for the year.

Fantastic, beautiful game.

My wife signed up for Game Pass so she could play PUBG with some old friends, so I installed the new Ori and fired it up. Blind Forest is probably my favorite Metroidvania game, so I had high hopes for this one.

Three tries into the first boss fight Ori's ever fought and I kind of hate it. What's the trick to beating that wolf thing? It's so huge and I don't have any movement abilities to dodge with. How much of the rest of the game is combat and how much is exploration and platforming like the first one?

How many hours does it take to get Bash back?

The trick to the wolf is to dash under him when he leaps.

Platforming and exploration gets more of an emphasis over time, but sadly, it's never as good or interesting as Blind Forest. Combat never approaches fun or interesting.

You'll get bash back soon. But then you'll get another ability mapped to the same input that will regularly screw up your attempts to bash.

God, this game was such a letdown.

I restarted on Easy and the wolf ran off after I landed one combo with the torch. Did I miss a trigger the first time or does the game basically skip boss fights on Easy?

I started playing. I put a few hours into it and then had zero interest in loading it back up. It just didn't click like the first game did. I did the same with gamepass so don't feel too bad about it. A Plague Tale was absolutely amazing so I definitely got my money's worth if nothing else.

After that intro I'm gonna feel bad about stopping no matter what. The question is whether frustration will make me feel worse about keeping on.

I enjoyed the game at first, but I'm a few hours in and it's just not clicking for me the way the first game did. I can't quite put my finger on it.

I'm playing on normal and when I got to that wolf I was a little worried cos I wasn't able to beat it, thought they'd gone all Hollow Knight on Ori. But it's one of those fights where you don't have to beat it, just a few hits before it runs off scared and since then I've been loving it.

I took Spirit Smash as my first ability and it's awesome. Haven't hit any super frustrating chase sequences like the first game yet, and any boss fights have also been easy enough.

I haven't played for a couple weeks though since we got a Switch, I really have to go back soon before I lose all my rhythm with it.

That was what I was wondering, thank you! I'll have to go back and try Normal again. The non-boss bits on Easy... I got hit several times and didn't visibly take any damage. I'd like the normal enemies to be something I have to worry about.

There aren't any chase sequences, or there are chase sequences but they don't get frustrating?

I rather liked the chase sequences in the first one, and would be disappointed if they were gone altogether. Especially since that short one with the wolf felt like an introductory version of them. The final chase was a little bit frustrating for me, but that was just because I didn't quite realize it was the grande finale of the game when I first got there. Once I knew that bit of context the challenge felt about right.

I've had a couple so far but not frustrating. Haven't passed them first try or anything like that but also haven't been threatening to throw my controller into a wall.

But in trying to teach my son about coming back to difficult tasks after a decent sleep or some time away I've also gotten better at that kind of thing myself.

I am just about done. No sequences were as hard as the first game but I'm OK with that. Still plenty of challenging areas and I love a lot of the new powers. When I get in the groove the flow is just amazing.

That smash down move that makes the waves is a game changer. It makes the challenge rooms significantly easier.

Mount and Blade 2 took me away from this for a little while but I just came back and beat it. Thank god for generous checkpoints in that end boss fight! The way it ended caught me by surprise but I thought it was the perfect wrap up to the two games.

Fantastic game and I figure I'm going to go back to this periodically just to 100% it.

I need to get back to this. It still involves running a HDMI cable from my wife's desk to mine.

The fight against

Kwolok

... GAR!! I’ve probably died 30+ times now. I get him to about 1/4 health regularly spamming sentries and just then got within a hair of winning but I’ve gotta put it down for the night before any harm comes to my controller.

I almost gave up at this battle. I ended up coming back later after I'd gotten more health. I also learned that I hadn't yet acquired the ability to turn energy into health, which was a big deal for the entire game.

Finally, I didn't find the sentries to be much help. I ended up using the hammer for the first phase and the arrows for the second phase.

For me, that was also the hardest fight of the game. At that point, you can also leave and come back to it, if needed. I believe I also used a combo of arrows and hammer.

Went back to it this morning and tried out fireballs with better success. Took another 10 or so goes but finally took it down.

Moved onto an area I didn't even know I could access yet and unlocked the

sand tunneling

ability. Loving this game!

Same here, I had to look it up and range weapons seemed to be the key. I think I only had 5 or so health when I got to him so that battle was a grind.
