NFL 2020: Offseason

The Browns both look like they already lost.

On brand.

If the Twitter trash talk of Chiefs players toward each other is correct, Tyreek may be the odds on favorite.

Not rooting for him, but thought I should prepare you guys for a less than optimal result might be likely. I hope Honey Badger smokes him. If I were jersey buying today, I would get a Chiefs #32 with Honey Badger as the nameplate.

Tweet from Daniel Jeremiah about a handout he was given during his time as a Ravens scout that was left behind years earlier by Bill Belichick during his Cleveland coaching years.

I wonder what would change if he rewrote it now. Everyone is reading the QB section like it's a writeup on Brady, but what stands out to me more are bits like the emphasis on pass catching TEs. This was written in 1991 when inline, block-first TEs were far more common than the Ozzie Newsome types he describes.

Also neat to see him describe the offensive attack as working inside-out, which is a label I've used a number of times over the years to describe the Pats offense.

Fun to see him use the names of early '90s players as examples. Kevin Mack and Eric Metcalf being Browns at the time, of course, but also anytime Tom Rathman gets a shout-out, I am all for it.

Hill and Mathieu are playing right now. Hill jumped out to a quick 21-0 1st quarter lead. Hill is the Bears and Mathieu is KC.

Honey Badger got on the board with a bomb to Watkins. He now has the ball and driving down 14 late in the second. So he has a shot.

With a 1st and goal run stuffed, Mathieu went to the pass. Mistake. It was Hill’s third INT and second pick six. Next drive, first play, Hill picks up a 3rd pick six to go up 35-7.

And a 5th pick with seconds left gave Hill time to throw bomb to go up 42-7 at half. To be fair, he did get one more pick before the half ended.

And now we have a problem. Matthieu rage quit the game and went off on Tyreek for showboating.

Yeah I turnt thy sh*t off, that sh*t was lame you did last play, sh*t just a video game, that sh*t was disrespectful, but I played you multiple times in person and you ain’t NEVER do that. Funny what people do when they get a audience

The final play in question.

This is going to make the ring ceremony a tad more awkward.

So once upon a time Garion shared the new season of All or Nothing which is on the disappointing season the Philadelphia Eagles had. I've watched a few episodes with my Old Man now, and aside from being a painful reminder of how the season went, it has given me a few things to respond to.

  • Are these people naturally like this or are many of them playing it up for the camera? It seems a lot of the practice field talk is playing it up for the camera with the actual game stuff being their real selves.
  • I hope Brandon Graham gets a job as some sort of commentator or something because he is uplifting and delightful... then again, he's the biggest reason I'm wondering if people are playing it up for the cameras.
  • Man this show focuses a lot on the players. Are we ever going to zoom in more on the coaches and find out that, hey, maybe they played a big part in this season going poorly?

Of course, it's easier to focus on the players because that's what most of the viewers of the NFL are focused on. Much like the movie industry where people are more concerned with the actors, only partially concerned with the director, and then what's a cinematographer? No one cares about the coaching staff when it's easier to look at the players on the field and love or blame them.

It's not a bad viewing, and in my perspective certainly helps humanize a lot of these players better. It also makes me wonder what the behind-the-scenes relationships of the players on other teams look like in comparison. Right now Philadelphia Eagles are trying to paint a picture of harmony and folks getting along real well, but we can see how things started with Orlando Scandrick being an introduction to more tumultuous times in the locker room.

I didn't watch more than an episode or two, but the focus on players is likely just because they had better tapes than the coaches. Or Eagles ownership got NFL Films to agree to focus more on the players. I doubt that's the case simply because each season has had a big focus on coaching, ownership, etc.

Coaches are much less likely to let cameras into their meetings whereas the players don’t have a choice.

Assuming Twitter is correct, the newest Buc is ... Blaine Gabbert.

I so wish MMD was a regular on this board these days.

He was on the Bucs last year, so too late. Didn't throw a pass and wound up on IR, so probably his best year as a pro.

Boy can he fish though.

New Bucs unis are out.

The big change is that they dropped those weird-ass XFL/Arena League jagged numbers. There's a nice-looking pewter (or gray?) over pewter option that I think is new.

Also, it seems that three key Bucs are riding out the 'rona in an abandoned warehouse. Tough times make tough players, amirite?

I didn't realize they signed a completely different Tom Brady than we thought.

TB12 gonna rock the crap out of the TD12 era jersey.

Don't really care for the darker ones as they're bland, but, for the scarlet and white ones . . . IT'S JUST THE OLD UNIFORMS AGAIN WHICH WERE FREAKING GREAT ANYWAYS YOU NEVER NEEDED TO CHANGE MORONS.

Really nice, highly approve. The uniforms look great, and they'll look even better minus the interception and/or sexual assault-loving old QB.

Seriously, the only real change appears to be a bit of an orange stripe on the pants, and that's a nice touch to the old-school gay pirate days. The Bucs now go back to having some of the best uniforms in the league, and, congratulations, Tennessee, you get to be the worst again!

That is disrespectful to the atrocity my Browns wear on a weekly basis.

Even when they changed to the Color rush as a primary home uniform it wasn't much better.

I know we are getting new ones on April 15th, but what in Browns history suggests that they wont eff this up... again.

The unis with the gigantic CLEVELAND were among the worst in the league.

The ones from last year were OK. The colors are still, you know... those, but none of the design elements are the nightmare from the top picture.

Can't wait to see the new ones!

EDIT: Oh I also loved how in 2015 the team changed from their old "traffic cone orange" to "blood orange", at a time when traffic cones are now more often using that darker blood orange shade. I have two traffic cones in my garage that are very close to the current Browns orange, as opposed to the old paler orange.

Oh, they're ugly, but Tennessee's mix of shades of blue and a bad font and the dumb flaming "T" logo is a different level. Seattle's are definitely . . . a thing, but they're so over-the-top I find them kind of amusing. Tennessee's just suck.

I watched a video recently of a guy who redesigned the unis for all 32 teams. And while I don't agree with all of his designs, I think a number of them are pretty interesting:

I think the real Bucs did a better job by just resetting to TD12 jerseys though.

I realize Tom Brady is considered the greatest ever and all, but I didn't think he had the power to get a team to change their jerseys. Bravo, Tom!

I don't dislike the color selection of the Tits, but I still don't understand the idea of the flames. When I hear the word "titan" I know my first thought is definitely of flames.

Especially flames from a light blue palate.

It worked for Wayne Gretzky...

What is different about tomorrow's Bucs unis from the Dungy-era? They look identical. To me.

ATL! ATL! ATL!

"Oh no! The Bucs have returned to a classic and simple look, and the worst uniform in the league is no longer in the NFC South! What are we ever to d . . . wait, is that the Atlanta Falcons music?"

Oh my GOD those are awful. Those are the XFL-iest the XFL has ever XFLed.

Yes those Atlanta uniforms look terrible. But I also think teams should just stick to their classics and stop changing stuff just to change it or justify a marketing department salary.

Oh my god.

What have they done?

Their uniforms were perfectly fine.

How did they not notice that the GIANT LETTERS thing looks awful, and that even Cleveland was smart enough to undo that mistake?
