Control by Remedy Catch All

So the first DLC came out on Thursday. Anyone tried it yet? I bought the season pass on Epic, but I'm trying to wrap up Witcher 3 before diving back into the world of Control, and it's killing me.

I have. I'm a bit of the way into it so far so not really played enough to comment on it fully but it's more story content, so i'm automatically happy. Plus a new environment (caves) to mix things up a bit. I've died quite a lot but i think that's just because it's been so long since i last played that my timing is all over the place. Seems like a decent chunk of content though.

One thing - it seems to unequip your weapons and mods when installed. I didn't notice this until i was under attack and didn't understand why i couldn't shoot back

I’m in the research sector, just spoke to Marshall and got killed by the strong enemy that pops up when you go to cleanse the next control point.

It brought my primary frustration to keen focus; too much dying without a clue what killed me. Was it the guy? A grenade? Rocket? Sniper? *shrug*

Yeah, that's definitely a thing. It is pretty easy to power through though. Dying isn't a huge deal. Go explore other areas and level up abilities.

I feel ya. It's worth the pain to stick with it. Take a break if you get too frustrated.

Meant to ask, how do you get new ability points? I can’t tell if it’s tied to killing Hiss or making story progress. I got three with the lightbox power object.

All three, i think?

i like this a LOT!

There’s a lot of good stuff on that channel, including an awesome song for The Outer Worlds.

Oh f*cking hell, that was good. As is their other stuff. Dammit, subscribed.

Goddamn, that video is awesome. Wow.

Anyone know why the game looks terrible on my system? I have a 2080Ti and on max settings, it looks like this.

I keep hearing that this game looks incredible. Is there a setting I am missing? The textures look blurry.

Probably the Film Grain and DLSS feature. Maybe play with them and see if you can get a picture that you find more pleasing. I kinda like the film grain myself.

I would agree with the recommendation to look at film grain and DLSS as the culprit. The film grain implementation in this game is odd in general, and while the jury is still out on DLSS as a technology with a 2080 ti there's no reason you should need it anyway.

i am the WRONG person to ask I think I can only get it to run on my laptop on lowest settings, and even then it turns into a slideshow in heavy firefights. I still have no idea how i won some of those boss fights

On the plus side i suddenly found out there is a snazzy secret cat costume in FOUNDATION and I want it!
(but for now, my dapper gold suit will do nicely)

There's apparently a DX11 and a DX12 version that gets installed, and the launcher isn't the best at picking the right one. When I played the original I was getting really bad textures, then figured out I was running the DX11 executable. Unfortunately, you'll have to dig through the file structure to find and launch the right one.

I wear the janitor's outfit all the time (even though I think I have all the others unlock, including the async outfit) because I'm doing nothing but cleaning up other people's messes...

Thanks all for the suggestions. I will try them. Any clue why I can't run an FPS counter in the game? I typically use FRAPs.

This is actually a pretty sizable chunk of new content. Definitely seems to be worth the money.

Trusty MSI Afterburner+RivaTuner combo works, unless they broke something in the new DLC.

...but those new teleporting, melee axe throwing bad guys are horrible and i wish they were gone. They are just frustrating as hell to fight.

I read a spoiler free tips article for this from Eurogamer before playing. They said the Charge weapon form was mostly useless.

What a bunch of hooey! I finally unlocked it last night after putting it off and it’s awesome. I wasted no time in maxing it out and it’s by far my favorite. Curious how it’ll work against bosses.

I’m at the Finnish Tango story mission, I gather I’m pretty close to the end. Doing some side quests now.

Awesome game. Hope to be finished by Friday for FFVII remake. And shouts to my toddler for getting her nap and sleep schedules down and allowing me to play real games again!

Pierce was my primary but Charge more often than not took up the second slot. I found it too sloppy to bother with bosses but it’s great for quickly clearing out a room of normal enemies.

Finished FOUNDATION (or should that be Finn-ished....huh? huh? ). (aside from a couple of side quests still to mop up). Pretty good! Nice chunk of new content overall.

Also I went back and checked off a bunch of side stuff from the base game that i'd not gotten around to yet so now i have (sort of) infinite ammo for Grip. which is nice.

Just finished the main game. Was awesome throughout but I could do without

Spoiler:

the Dylan stuff, which just seemed half baked

.

If no other games grab me between now and Friday I might take a look at the DLC.

Anyone playing the DLC have real trouble with “Swift Platform”?

i've only tried it the once and pretty sure i got quite near the end? (despite a terrible framerate). So...not sure exactly how fiddly it is until i retry it again!

Has anyone else noticed that the facial capture seems off in the DLC? The left side of Jessie’s mouth doesn’t seem to move when she talks and Pope doesn’t seem as well lip-synched.

Something about the facial animation has seemed off this whole time. Jesse's jaw seems unnaturally connected. Hard to describe.

The Swift platform thing is tough. I struggled with it several times before making it to the end.

Yeah I came back after maybe two weeks off and finished it in a couple tries. Palette was cleansed. I’m hoping to play some more tomorrow.

I noticed, but the game runs so poorly on my poor old laptop that I just put it down to performance issues at my end.
