Pile Madness - Pile of Shame March 2020

How's everyone's year going so far? Tons of success with the pile? Little or no progress (me)? Hopefully, we can make some progress before the release frequency starts to pick up and several triple A titles drop as we approach the end of Q1.

Some housekeeping notes.

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month 2020 pile plan thread over here.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Picks of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the spreadsheet I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

Grim Fandango Remastered

Ooooh, thread's up!

Little Nightmares (multi)
The Witcher III (multi)
South Park: The Fractured but Whole (multi)

One carried over from February, one that's on the final stretch of missions, and one that should be a nice mid-sized meal as we draw near to FFVII-R's release date.

EDIT: First! (that's a miracle).

Hmmm. Not sure what I want to target this month. Decisions decisions...

Mmmh... Not sure what to declare.

Let's start with Dragon Quest V (multi) for now. Since I have a long commute (and will continue to have one for the next three months), a portable game is pretty much what I need right now.

Aaaand I guess I wasn't kidding on being on the last stretch of The Witcher III. Didn't realize just how close I was to the end.

Main game done, the DLC awaits me. I'll likely take my time with those throughout the month. I have two pressing releases that I really want to play as soon as they hit the ground, these being the RE3 and the FFVII remakes. I really have to get cracking if I want to clear the two pile picks that remain. The month, however, has started rather well.

I’m back on the pile wagon!

1. Divinity Original Sin 2
2. Conan Exiles
3. Elder Scrolls Online main campaign
4. Outer Worlds

Is this a remake or a remaster of the old "Pile Madness" threads?

Castle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse (PC) - the remake. Been playing this with my 3yo. It's a short game, but progress is slow when someone decides Mickey's time is better spent jumping into an abyss over and over and over again.
Grim Fandango Remastered (PC/multi) - for the adventure game club.

Can't say 2020 is going better than 2019 especially were the backlog is concerned. I beat my first game this year a few days ago so hopefully that will give me the momentum to finish more. I think I'll try beating Black Mesa (PC) this month. I may not have the gear to play Half Life: Alyx but I can at least honor it by playing something in the same universe (kind of). I'll also add Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (PC/Multi) since I'm enjoying it so far. Very Anime that one is.

Also:
Subsurface Circular (PC) - started this a week ago and am intrigued.

I thought it was outstanding. I'm a huge fan of text adventures. The detailed environment and character models breathed new life into a format that simply refuses to die.

I'd like to think of this as a re-mastered thread with updated textures.

I'm going to think about what to play this month. I'm thinking I should go for an easy win, just to get some sort of momentum in 2020.

Sorry can I add one more? Got completely hooked on it over the weekend:

Frostpunk

Trails in the Sky SC I know. Still on that JRPG grind.

Division 2

South Park: The Fractured but Whole is down. I still have two pieces of story DLC to play through, but the main game has been completed. That was pretty fun, and genuinely funny at times.

And Frostpunk becomes the second game I've beat this year! Woot!

Ok, I've been absent from here for a long time. I'm ready to declare a game for the month, and keep at it. Supraland (PC) is my focus. It's a 3D 1st person Metroidvania made by a single guy but feels much bigger than that. Great puzzles, middling to basic combat, though.

I forgot to declare it, but I completed Ys Origin (multi) this month. A fun little game but playing the same thing three times to get all the story content was a little much.

Middle of the month, credits rolled first on Castle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse (PC) - which is a really well done, easy platformer that I definitely enjoyed my oldest.
Two days later, I finished up Subsurface Circular which, while fascinating, I struggle to call a "game". It really was just clicking dialog until something happened, and then you clicked more dialog. Still well worth checking out.

As for Grim Fandango Remastered, well, while I did get farther than my first attempt about 20 years ago, I didn't get very far; only about an hour in.

Most of my gaming time during the second half of this month was actually spent playing Ion Fury, so that and Grim Fandango will be my carry-overs to April. I'll also try to start and finish The Last Express (PC) in April, now that the adventure game club is giving me a reason to finally play it.

I did, in fact, finish Supraland on (looks back at recording) the 26th.

I'm carrying whatever I didn't manage to finish into April. So.... Just Little Nightmares.

Totally forgot this thread, oops, but I would’ve declared and completed Grim Fandango, had I been able to in a timely fashion. What a great, great game. <3

I've got ya covered.

Thanks, you’re the best!
I have proof of play on Twitch, fwiw!
