NFL 2020: Offseason

Would you like success and a proud legacy, or memes and annual top 10 draft slots? I have one of each.

According to Vic Tafur, the Raiders dropped their interest in Tom Brady after doing film review of Tom Brady's 2019 season, and deciding that his level of play had fallen off too much.

Plus if he didn't do well, they'd look stupid for blaming everything on Carr.

I was a Dolphins fan back in the day (because I grew up in DC football territory and the Fins beat Washington in the Super Bowl the year I picked my teams). Might have to go back to them because tbh they check both boxes (and have a ton of draft picks).

Yup, there's as much hope for them as the Browns. This year is the year!

The great thing about getting into Dolphins fandom right now is that, between the next two drafts, they're going to draft an entirely new roster. You didn't miss anything from not following these guys before, they'll all be gone!

Except DeVante Parker, he'll stay, and you'll get to watch his 6th and 7th straight breakout seasons.

*pulls up Spotrac, checks Parker's contract*

OK maybe just his 6th.

Pretty sure last year was his breakout, but don't let facts get in the way of your jokes.

He's going to start 2020 slow, and then break out again.

How about we all cheer for the Panthers since they have Teddy Bridgewater now and we all seem to like him.

Well, there's plenty of room on the bandwagon now that my fat ass has jumped off.

Panthers (edit: expected to soon) release Cam.

The one position Carolina is loaded at (relatively speaking) is WR, and the Panthers just threw $20M at Robby Anderson?!

* checks his stat lines *

Oh, right, Matt Rhule coached him at Temple.

Your "fat ass" is off the wagon, you don't care anymore!

I am walking alongside the wagon until Robby Anderson jumps down and beats my fat ass. He's prone to do that, ya know.

Jags are about to sign Tyler Eifert, which I am all in favor of. Good pass catcher that has experience in Jay Gruden's offense. Was healthy enough last year to play all 16 games and caught 43 balls. Should make a good pair with the team's 3rd round pick last year, Josh Oliver, who unfortunately missed his rookie year to injury.

Devin Funchess? Sure I guess.

Assuming the deal is a cheap prove it deal. Everyone besides Davante was so sad that pretty much anyone is a potential upgrade.

I guess ideally Packers still draft someone and Funchess is the #2 and by end season the rookie is pushing at that level. One can dream right?

Yeah, Funch is a big body. I wouldn't be overly excited either, but he's a vet, at least. Maybe his rapport will be good with Rodgers, since that appears to be key.

He's better than Jimmy Graham at this point.

So, are they going to push the draft back?

Whatever your expectations are, dial them back about three notches. He's very much a tweener as a pass-catcher -- too slow to get separation (or get yards after catch), and too small to be a TE (which he played in college, weirdly enough). Against the Lions in 2018, he sealed his fate with Carolina by dropping *five* passes. It was the goddamdest thing I'd seen, and I had watch Kelvin Benjamin mishandle everything every-which-way but a turkey sandwich with extra gravy.

I'm honestly not sure what GB is thinking? He's big and cheap? Um, OK, I guess.

Draft, probably not, but it will lose the "live" component. (But with everyone stuck at home, it will smash draft ratings records at a time when ESPN has jack crap to air)

It's what comes after it that is going to change. Minicamps and OTAs probably don't end up happening at all, replaced with virtual meeting rooms for playbook study.

Training camp sounds like it's up in the air whether it gets pushed back or not. Definitely a good chance it slides backward into the fall and delays the start of the season.

This is all happening so the NFL can cancel two preseason games. A conspiracy is afoot!

Speaking of ex-Panthers and big bodies, the Niners signed WR Travis Benjamin, and at first glance I thought it said Kelvin Benjamin and I was in a panic.

Travis seems a longshot to make the roster, but it continues the trend of late of the team signing guys that have played for Shanny before.

I don’t believe the 2020 season happens, for the NFL nor NCAA.

Same for the NBA and NHL. Too many challenges just to get to that point for their to be any expectation that the league will be ready to have games.

MLB might be back for 2021, but I doubt it.

You're just trying to stretch that championship out for 2 years to torture me.

I can't go a whole year with THAT being the last game played.

I dunno.

Only thing I can think of is he can be cut with next to no damage to cap space?

Considering how mediocre the WRs last year were. I think it's just a cheap flier to add competition.

This is making assumptions though. If the Packers don't add any more offensive FAs and don't draft some near the top of the board. Yikes.

The Chiefs are America’s last champions.

Just like I loathe that Virginia get to keep being reigning college hoops champs.

I don't care if they have to play the games in a goddamn bubble, this must be stopped!

I thought everything was re-opening after Easter.

In all seriousness though I'm taking the more optimistic view. As Legion alluded to there's nothing on TV.

One of these leagues is going to figure out how to get back on TV. NFL just happens to have the longest runway currently to essentially just act like nothing is going on.

They could probably dodge that question until middle of May? June?

Even then, in what world are stadiums filling back up?

That's a whole other question.

Of all the league's though to put their players health at risk. Pretty sure the NFL will find a way to convince them to play. From a actual people perspective it's the worst one just because the actual amount of people involved on each team.
