Half-Life: Alyx - Valve's flagship VR Title.

Well, looks like it's official! If anyone can do a AAA game to finally sell VR to the masses, it might just be Valve.

Kotaku Story

I can't wait until Thursday to actually see it!

Rumors were flying all day, finally glad they panned out after so many false alarms over the years. I'm psyched for Thursday!

I'm prepared to be disappointed.

Valve makes AAA games?

Valve makes games?

Hey, that 10 minute barely playable thing they put out to show how the VR index controllers had individual finger tracking was ....... existent....

Here's yer trailer.

Set in the time between 1 and 2 when Gordon is missing. It looks nice, but I don't that I would buy a PC VR setup for this one game. (I only have PSVR.)

Floating hands in VR are a thing that is gonna somehow get fixed in the future and we're all gonna laugh at these games.

It looks quite good. I hope it is good. But I am not sure I will be willing to pay for a whole setup for 1 game.

It looks really good. Wish I had the PCVR setup to play it.

Fixed, or embraced? Ubisoft, where's my first person Rayman game?

Any word on console ports for this? Do I finally have an excuse to get a PSVR?

Never thought I'd see the day....

March 2020 is right around the corner! It's amazing they managed to keep this under wraps so long!

I look forward till a time where a setup to play this is affordable and is all contained in the headset but powerful enough to run this. My guess is we're still 5-10 years out on a setup I'd be interested in buying (had a PSVR). I'll eventually figure out a way to play this but it may be a decade or so. It's not like I haven't waited that long for a new Half Life game.

Excited for finally getting more Half-Life, but not excited about VR headsets in the least. I guess I technically have a PC that could handle it (1070Ti) but they have a long way to go before I'll want to shell out a ton of money for a headset that blocks out everything else from my vision, which is something I don't think I want.

But man, it's Half-Life. The only game universe Valve has made that I love, and the original game was the catalyst for me learning to build PCs. There is so much pull there, but I'm not sure even that can overcome the VR headset hurdle.

You think we build a Dog?

Well, now that you mention it, not having that in there will be a huge missed opportunity. Even if it just means grabbing a few parts to finish it off.

Frig, that looks amazing. I hope I can get to play this on something.

If they bring the type of innovation that the first two Half Life's did then I'd be tempted to buy a VR headset just to play this.

Set between Half Life 1 and 2?

There's a joke here somewhere.......

Was that Rhys Darby?

I’m excited for this but don’t have a headset and the odds of affording one are super super low. So after loving half life all this time I’m more than likely going to watch this one go by. Probably catch some let’s plays to see what story it has. Bummer to be missing out on one of my favorites coming back.

If it’s not Rhys Darby, It’s a very convincing Rhys Darby impersonator.

It's pretty cool that they're giving it for free to owners of the Index controllers and headsets. That's a nice gesture.

It looks okay, I guess, but I'd prefer VR where you can stay seated, like standard computer games. This idea of devoting a big area in a room to standing VR isn't really my thing.

So, like, that new Elite would be interesting, if it wasn't unnecessarily always-online the way it is. Subnautica would probably be fun, too. This game doesn't look like it would work that way, sadly.

The website claims room scale, seated, or standing. Visualized with portal-meeples, of course.

I was confused when it said it was already in my library this morning - that explains that!

Looks like this game might actually come out Monday. Assuming no surprise Valve time, anyway. Anyone else here excited for it? The recent gameplay footage has looked super atmospheric and I'm a little nervous to play honestly!

Excited is a little strong, but I'm looking forward to playing. I missed the (air) boat on Half Life, by the time i went back to play HL2 it felt anachronistic.

But it'll be good to have a high productive value VR game - they're fairly few and far between.

I want to be excited, but the timing is bad. With the kids home all day, getting uninterrupted time to play in VR is not likely to happen. By the time they’ve gone to bed, my eyes and brain feel too tired to comfortably deal with the gear.

I definitely feel for you there. Getting all the VR stuff setup is just one or two steps too many most nights with the kids around, especially now.

I'm probably going to power through on this one since I've been dying for new Half-Life content for 10+ years now, but I definitely understand.

I managed to snag one of the Index headsets when they were on sale a couple of weeks ago for about 3 minutes, and it comes with the game. I'm cleaning up my office this weekend to reset it for VR, and am looking forward to giving this a go.
