Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Well, I have landed on the island of Bananaland!

The local fruit? You guessed it...

....apples.

Named my island Eventide after the deserted island in Breath of the Wild. My native fruit is cherries and my first villagers are Reneigh/Kody (Horse/Cub).

I love that nothing is truly trash in this installment. Weeds can be used for crafting or you can sell them for bells. And that empty can I found in the ocean became a succulent container.

Wish I could visit people right away though. Tomorrow fo' sho.

My squirrel is definitely a jock. I guess Raneigh the horse would be sisterly if the type being locked is true. Sounds like it might be.

So when I picked my map, I picked the one that had the little island in the center, but it turns out that I can only use the lower left half of my map and cannot access any of the other areas. Is it the same for the other maps? I'm a bit concerned because the game is having me place houses and buildings and I can only put them in that part of the map, so either I hope to be able to build a bridge very soon or there is some sort of swimming across rivers I don't know how to do.

Anyone know if we can move buildings later on in the game?

Apparently it's male jock and female uchi (sisterly) for everyone.

The uchi/sisterly seems to depend on which site or wiki you are looking at about the series. New type that came to New Leaf.

Everyone gets 4 random islands to choose from.

Everyone is cut off to about 1/4 of the island to start.

After you get museum tent, you get pole vault to cross river. But you still can't climb cliffs so maybe 1/2 or 2/3 of your island accessible.

After resident services asks you to make room for new residents you get 1 bridge free, and a ladder for only you to finally access everything.

After resident services upgrades from tent to a building, you can start building more bridges, ramps up cliffs, etc. Moving other buildings, all that comes after that.

The only things you can never move are resident services and the airport. So make sure you like their location or restart now.

The fruit stacks automatically!

Well that worked out. Randomly checked for open gates before bed. Saw Cathadan so visited. Left oranges, got apples. Then someone else joined in with cherries, my last missing fruit.

Got everything planted now. Hopefully it all grows.

Found coconuts on one of those random nook islands earlier.

How are people opening gates on day 1?

Gijeok gate is open

Futzing with system clock I assume.

So why and how would one want to play this? Never crossed animals before. Generally asking for someone to sell me or me and my kids playing this game.

Pupperea Gate is open. Pears everywhere.

Anyone on non Eastern Time who started before midnight Thurs was on day 2.

Or international like Mal, already 12 hours ahead.

Yeah I mess with the clock. But plenty of people are naturally there.

I visited briefly, but then realized my pockets were full.

My island is open for visitors. I got those sweet cherries.

Ugh, don't eat fruit. Took us forever to figure out thats why we can't get Iron. The game encourages you to eat fruit to be strong and then you break all your rocks on the first hit, depriving you of the opportunity to get a major gating resource. You 'lose' one fruit each time you break a rock. So we basically demolished all of our rocks and destroyed our economy.

They should have put in an option to go behind Nook's tent and hurl up the rest of your fruit. We had enough miles to visit a new island but it would be pointless because we still had 4 fruit.

Never mind, I can’t get to the fruit anyway, because I don’t have a pole. When do you get the pole?

I left you some fruit to plant later, Nimcosi.

Well crap. I ate it cuz it was there. Now I don’t want to hit my rocks.

I hoped I'd spare at least one person by posting

I went the other way. Saw a preview video where someone moved a whole tree with a shovel.

Then Tommy told me I could eat fruit to be strong, so it figured that was it. But I ate one fruit and the counter went to 1/10. I thought I had to eat 10 to get strong so I was like screw that.

Then I saw an article about breaking rocks and apparently it just takes 1 but you can eat up to 10 if you're going to do a lot of tree moving or whatever.

I've still done some of the old way, axe a tree, dig a new one. I just forget that you can do this new moving thing.

How are you planting the fruit? I have oranges my in game mom sent but can’t figure out how to plant them.

Just need a shovel. Dig a hole, then in inventory choose the fruit and plant. Have to have a shovel out to close the hole too. I tried digging a hole for my wife so she could drop fruit in but no dice.

Also make sure you're clear at least a space around in all directions. Maybe 2 to be safe. Don't want to waste it.

Anyone with a gate open able to craft a second axe? My axe broke and I don’t have the materials to craft a new one.

PSA: If you open your airport and need to go idle for any length of time make sure adjust the switch's sleep settings. Otherwise, you may inadvertently kick someone off your island.

Isn't the shortest "connected to TV" sleep time an hour?

I have hit two islands and they both had my native fruit on them. However i did leave with a full pack of coconuts, flowers, resources each time. Given how fast you get miles on Miles+ I doubt this will be an issue for long.

I think it was the Polygon guide, or maybe a review... I saw somewhere that an alternate fruit is pretty rare. What I read said they saw one other non-native fruit but saw it repeatedly.

Friends really are the best way to get the other 5.

I got a letter from mom with one non-native at the start. I wonder if that's the same foreign fruit that appears on Nook islands. That would lock you to only 2, possibly 3, if you play alone.

I mean eventually maybe a new resident would bring some. Or a camper. I think there's campers like New Leaf had.

This is a really dumb question. How do you plant fruit trees?

Opening up my gates. Have cherries so I'm looking for other types of fruit.

Heheh... I got to name my island Tuffalopia.
