Fire Emblem Catch All

Nailed it Clock. Get out while the going is good - there's another 60 hours of that tedious bullsh*t occasionally interspersed with a brief bit of tactics that may be interesting, but you'll probably be overlevelled enough to make it trivial.

I enjoyed it enough to finish one playthrough. But I definitely agree that a lot of the in between battle stuff felt bloated and drawn out. Especially after the first few times of running around the school.

I got to the BE split point last week. One of the few moments in gaming where a game has hit me with a choice that made me stand up and think about it for a few hours before logging back in with my choice. (I talk about it a little bit on the upcoming CC, and I likely also fail to answer questions about how systems in the game work due to my new look-nothing-up lifestyle.)

Spoiler:

I decided to burn down the establishment because of course I did.

I've mostly been on total lockdown with this game, playing I imagine completely suboptimally on hard but absolutely loving it. (I too wonder about which mission critical systems I've been neglected.)

Remember a couple of months ago when I and others were complaining that the campaign is too easy even on Hard? I started Cindered Shadows on Hard and it's been ripping my arms off and beating me to death with them, so that crisis is over. :)

Let us know how good their mini-campaign turns out; I didn't really get much of a feel from many of the reviews I read.

Just remembered I owe you an update. Chapters 2, 3, and 4 were intense on Hard, and more fun than I had on any primary campaign mission. Yuri's class skill in particular is insanely useful and I would have called it broken, except I had to shamelessly abuse it just to keep my people alive. The class restrictions also gave it a bit more of an old-school FE feel.

It was taking a long time though, and after losing chapter 5 I ran out of patience and throttled back down to normal for a relatively easy victory lap. The final chapters still had some interesting twists, though.

Overall the level of challenge and variety is a lot closer to what I've been missing from Fates Conquest, and I highly recommend it.

The story is alright. Hard to set up any big twists or reveals in such a short campaign.

I guess I am the WORST Fire Emblem player in the World.... I am in chapter 21 of Conquest.. con "easy" or "casual" mode where your units dont die for good and return at the next battle and boy oh boy... If i HADNT played in this mode i would`ve ended up with zero units Jesus... lol

How pathetic i am.
Despite this... i am really enjoying the game and i am looking forward to Birthright!

Closets are a thing in Fodlan too.

I am sure this has been ranted about before but why has their not been a patch to increase the font sizes! I am trying to play it on the Switch Lite and it is very close to impossible. The text it ridiculously small. I have to practically get amagnifying glass to read it. It is not well done, so not well done that I might not be able to play it on the Lite, or even the regular switch unless I put it through the TV.

I just started playing Three Houses yesterday, and just made it through the first mission. How early is the split where we have to choose which house we'll teach? Any advice on what to go with, for a first playthrough?

I think a lot of people would probably recommend Black Eagle, particularly since you'd have to do two playthroughs of them in order to get every possible ending in the game. I started with Blue Lions, and some of the reveals I think worked well with them as a first playthrough. However, they're also definitely a "plan on playing multiple times" route considering the conclusion.

No clue about Golden Deer. They were going to be my third run through the game (and I've been considering starting a second run through, admittedly).

Yeah it's worth looking up Edelgard route for mild spoilers, if you go Black Eagle, to make sure you don't miss it. And if you plan multiple runs BE first and last with the other 2 mixed in the middle is probably the way to go.

I trailed off during my 2nd run and never finished. A great game though, and maybe I'll get back to it someday.

I have done black eagle and blue lion and started golden deer.

I think black eagle was my favorite story and had most of my favorite people.

To not miss story choices basic rule is always talk to the head of your class and their second any time you are free to run around the school.

I usually ran with just my main house plus one or two students I pulled from other houses.

Well, I played a little more this morning, and that choice came up real fast. I ended up going with Blue Lions, mostly just because I felt like I vibed with the group a little bit better.

I started Blue Lions and really enjoyed it. I did plan on playing through all the houses, but trailed off during my Golden Deer run. I will get back to it at some point hopefully, as I really want to see the story from every house. I never did get around to Revelations though...

Which BE?

I think my choice of Blue Lions was pretty heavily influenced by the current moment. I found Edelgard really interesting, but from my initial read of Black Eagles, it seems there's some group infighting and jockeying for position. And Golden Deer seems like a "band of lovable misfits," with some members who seemed interesting, but some who I felt were sure to get on my nerves (like the big guy who just likes to fight and eat). When I talked to all of the Blue Lions, they seemed kind of basic, but like they pretty well enjoyed each other's company and were committed to a common cause. And right now I'm more drawn to a group where everyone wants to be friends and have each other's back.

My advice would have been to pick the group with the members that made the best first impression on you, so good job.

Also good job on reminding me that I want to get back to this for another run. My Switch has been collecting dust for the last few months. A Three Houses run with a new house sounds very appealing at the moment.

The correct choice. To marry an emperor.

For some reason I had a hankering for the Awakening and am playing again.

I don't recall if it has been asked and answered or not but - why didn't they make feet for the characters? I know it was about their first game with 3D scenes but it just seems weird.

Still it is nice seeing the old friends again. I have a lot more attachment to these folks than I do to the people in Three Houses.

They initially didn't think the 3DS had the horsepower and then once they realized it did they ran out of time. Seriously.

Thanks! It felt right.

I am up to the fourth (?) month -- the one where

Spoiler:

you're on guard duty after word of an assassination plot

and am loving the game so far. I've realized over time that, in JRPGs and strategy games, I really enjoy figuring out how systems work, and I think the various time management challenges in Three Houses are fascinating and really well implemented. It's been interesting to figure out how to manage keeping my students motivated vs. improving my own character, while also seeing that both of these things can have a tangible payout during lessons.

Also, I'm starting to think about who I want to steal away from the other houses. I already have my eye on Dorothea, the opera singer who's over in Black Eagles for some reason.

Dorothea, Benadetta, Lysithea are my top steals.

Catherine and Shamir are also fun.

It depends on if you plan on multiple play throughs or just one main one.

Seconding Lysithea the Destroyer, although I would also recommend getting Lorenz’s relic for her as well to help her to be all she can be. Dorothea is also very useful since she can get Physic for ranged healing and gets good offensive spells. Raphael was my go to physical tank in both playthroughs.

Of the Bernadetta/Leonie/Shamir triumvirate of ready made Bow Knights, I thought Leonie was the best, but I know others had Bernie work out well for them.

Benadetta must be protected at all costs.

Leonie should be put in Willie Wonka's chocolate factory. Let's see how long she lasts before she gets turned into a blueberry.

For me Catherine and Shamir worked best as a combo.

Oh, and I forgot to mention Caspar; not that he's all that great (although he gets all the crits when punching things later on), but he's tied to an important Paralogue later in the game. So it's probably worth getting him and keeping him reasonably leveled if possible for that alone.

While I'm rattling off key things I remember, there are a few skills that boost a unit's stats when attacking, like Deathblow from mastering Brigand, Fiendish Blow from mastering Mage, and Darting Blow from mastering Pegasus Knight. These three are incredibly useful for your attackers.

Stealthpizza wrote:

I say let her take a few hits. She hits like a truck full of trucks when she's down a lot of HP.

Yesterday I finished the first "big boss" battle. Loved the addition of this, which presented the tactical layer in a new and different way. Also loved that when I suffered a loss condition -- Dimitri fell in battle -- the game prompted me to use the Divine Pulse instead of just wiping my progress. But I remember being frustrated with Echoes when I couldn't just use the Turnwheel to save Alm or Celica, so I'm glad that's been fixed here -- at least for the house leader. I don't know if the game would save me from a Byleth death, too.

So far, no steals yet, though I have recruited Cyril (of course). But I think I'm closing in on a few. I've been working on Dorothea, Ferdinand, Caspar, Marianne, and Leonie. I'm going to try to start building up rapport with Lysithea, and maybe Petra. I also notice that Ignatz is expressing some interest in my house, though I've done nothing to cultivate a relationship with him.

Awakening -

I have got to stop worrying about losing units. I have this habit of replaying every battle if I lose someone and that means I play most battles 2-3 times. That is getting old. I think I will change to easy where the units are just out of that fight. I want to finish the game I don't need to be perfect.

That’s how I put over 100 hours into Awakening.

Same. That's also how I was eventually convinced to play Three Houses on "Casual" mode. My time is worth more than worrying about that.
