Path of Exile catch-all

Oh I'm sure other cool builds exist. The question is whether I can find them. Looking up builds ahead of time takes away half the fun for me, so I don't. Instead I just try to take advantage of whatever drops for me and build around that.

And I’ve hit that tipping point where I’ve gone from being invincible directly to being one-shot by bosses. Fortunately I was close enough to the end of the campaign and could just Zerg back in after every death and see the end of that. It helped that I died way before my minions did so I had my full army every time I went back in.

I don’t really see a clear path to getting more survivability outside of grinding for lucky drops, so I’m probably going to call this run here and check things out again with the new league.

9 times out of 10 this means that your resists has dropped below 75%. If you don't have a minimum of 75% resists for everything except chaotic you will have problems. In case you didn't know the overall number increase at each tier of the story so if you were maxed during the first half but done nothing to adjust then you're below that 75% mark now.

If you link your profile and let us know which character you're having issues with, lots of people here would be able to give you very solid advice.

I have a profile that can be linked? The closest I've gotten to registering with Grinding Gear is clicking the "Log in with Steam" button when the game launches.

I suspect that the problem lies with the fact that almost all of my points are in places that buff my minions rather than me. On the other hand, all of the tank-y options I seem to have involve buffing my health and shield, and the damage bursts feel like they're outpacing what I could get there. Or maybe they aren't... it's hard to know if a hit did 102% of my health or 1000% of my health. Maybe resists are largely gear based? Or maybe resist skills are hard to get to when starting as the Witch? It's hard to tell just by playing the game.

My Diablo 3 experience leads me to suspect I have a hole in my resists somewhere, but I'm loath to give up unique items to try and plug those holes and I'm not sure how to best acquire them to begin with. It probably doesn't help that I have zero interest in trading with random players. I might go poke at the crafting system in the hideout to see what I can do there.

I do like how they give you an in-world reason for the mid and end-game resist penalties. Even though I was basically just skimming the story I appreciated that.

Hmm... now I'm looking at Steam and it seems I earned the Elemental Aegis achievement at some point today. If I was having resist issues you'd think I wouldn't have, unless there was a temporary buff involved. I did have like 3 shrine effects stacked up at one point.

Can't you use crafting to modify some of the stats on your gear, such as adding resistances?

Only within the bounds of what the currencies allow - adding more gem slots, changing colors, changing the “grade” of an object (blue to yellow), re-rolling stats, and so forth. There are systems to allow you to *create* new objects with a focus on various stats (I think), but you have to capture monsters and such to use those.

The game seems to be more of a “find the right category of item” and then tweak it, than actually making targeted changes to a particular item. Reroll? Yes. Modify stats like Diablo 3? No, not really...

Servers are completely borked.

Yep. Got in, didn't even get through the beach and blammo, done.

This league seems really hard. I am not a good player but by any measure but I usually don't have much trouble with dying until Innocence boss fight. So far in this league, Mudflats is kicking my ass even before attempting to enter a delirium rift thingy.

Delirium rift thingy fights feel impossible to me. Also not real sure what I am supposed to do in there beyond kill stuff and live through it? I don;t feel like I am getting much if anything from those. I am sure I am missing something.

I have not dived in yet. Anyone have advice for tdeadboon?

Basically. There’s a little loot meter in the bottom left that starts filling up as you kill stuff in a rift, the higher you get it the better quality/quantity of loot after the rift expires. It helps prolong the timer if you travel in the same direction the mist is flowing as you kill stuff. There’s probably more endgame mechanics that unlock just like with every other league, but I’m not there yet.

I'm not really enjoying the league mechanic yet but it looks like it's much more geared toward the endgame. The league mechanic is very unfriendly with high damage monsters that have damage reduction and monsters that explode and kill you. The rewards aren't anything special either but then again they never are in the pre-map game. Last league when they upped monster life and damage reduction the game got a lot harder for the average player. Unfortunately, the high end players who the change was probably aimed at don't see it as anything more than a speed bump. Expect changes to the league mechanic about 2 weeks in that will almost certainly make it friendlier. I don't think I've seen a league yet where they didn't file the sharp edges off pretty early on.

Found a Tabula Rasa in Act 4 on my xbox account! Now using it as a double 5-link for Raise Zombies and Vaal Raise Skeletons. So awesome!

I just moved my install to an SSD and my gosh the difference is huge!

I had thought I had it moved to my new SSD before, but I finally checked after suffering through an interminable update, and I was wrong.

The game starts in just a few seconds and level transitions seem almost instant.

This is awesome. I've been thinking of updating my laptop to one (or rather, trying to justify the expense). Appreciate your post, polq.

Got to act 7 for the first time ever on the XBOX in Standard. The final boss fight of act 6 is crazy pants. I loved it.

An SSD makes more difference with this game than any other game I've played. I used to avoid portalling because it just took too long. I used to avoid travelling back and forth to different vendors between acts because of the time tax. I used to avoid playing the game sometimes because it was a massive time investment just to get started. With an SSD, I can be be killing monsters within seconds of double clicking the icon to start the game.

Crafted my first legitimately Mirror worthy item today.

Standard league. took the crafted mod off my chest from Legion league and warlord orbed it.

The item was already 60+ exalts minimum as it was a super well rolled chest worth 30+ exalt in 3.7 and is now legacy that can't be crafted anymore. I removed 8% life and mana line and warlord orbed my best possible outcome and got 15% of physical hits taken as fire damage.

Item doesn't exist for sale/mirror except by me. Unique item.

I listed it at 1 mirror to indicate it's something i can mirror for people for a price, though i've never done that before.

I use this on my standard league cyclone impaler along with the saviour sword i got last league.

I've gotten into this game in a major way. Such a good podcast game.

After only playing hardcore (because my playing partner only plays hardcore), I finally noped out and decided to continue on in softcore regular league once my latest character died (in act 5 I think?). Super enjoying it now, much less stressful. Getting into trading and finding that pretty satisfying as well.

I completed act 10 last night and entered the end game. Haven't completed the map device quest yet, but probably will this weekend. The resistance penalty is harsh! I think it makes upgrading gear really painful. I want to upgrade some gear to pieces with better intrinsics, but having to shift around reistance rings or other gear is a little maddening sometimes. Hopefully this is a temporary slowdown.

I sort of flamed out this league. I'm playing impale cyclone and despite my best efforts I'm a complete glass cannon. I'm hoping to get to level 91 or so but it's going to be a struggle. I will say the damage is quite something. I'm easily running red maps on a 5 link with two 1 chaos unique swords. My other gear is 1C rares or stuff I've found. 10/10 would recommend for a beginner build. Just keep spinning until you die.

I'm hoping to scrounge up enough cash to craft a -mana cost 6 link chest. The crafting should be too bad but I've spent thousands of fusings in previous leagues and never 6-linked anything.

If you just hit end game and need a boost to be able to afford basic gear with overcapping your resists and some starting maps, reach out to me in game. I will be on this evening CST but gone this afternoon most likely until around 8pm cst. Account Fuzzballx, chat name: Quantum_Fuzzwaffles

The league mechanic is extremely rippy this league. Run low level maps really fast and kill the bosses to get splinters and sell the simulacrum 2-3 times for cash and exp, hopefully without ripping, to get started. Fast low level maps where you clear a ton during delirium is just mad profit.

Alva missions are the best for getting extra simulacrum splinters. Do all 3 on your way to the boss, kill the boss, keep clearing till delirium is up, 20-30 splinters common.

Betrayal missions are the worst this league. Normally betrayal is high profit but it doesn't jive with delirium and you get crap all delirium rewards which overall add up to more than betrayal does. Just run betrayal if you really want betrayal stuff or to unlock crafting mods.

Breach scarabs are also amazing for adding more delirium rewards if you can clear the breaches without dying in delirium.

Try to never stop moving. any character that has to stand still for more than .00005 seconds is a very rippy character this league when in delirium

High level mapping with pushing delirium for rewards is guaranteed rips for about anybody.

The best way to 6 link for a non rich player is to buy the prophecy for 6 linking.

Cost = 2 exalts currently.

https://poe.trade/search/oninikiokimodo That is a link to Fated Connections prophecy for guarnteed 6 link on poe.trade. You just using jewelers and as soon as you hit 6 sockets it auto six links. Average 350 jewelers to 6 socket the item.

My only character this league, after failing at animate weapon (SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS for delirium league) is a ice golemancer. https://poe-profile.info/profile/Fuz...

Delving is profitable and doesn't have delirium. Getting past level 100 and doing all the wall break downs you can on your runs using flares and dynamite will get you lots of fossils, resonators, and currency. Delve all you can with a toon like that to get and earn what you don't get, to craft what you need imho.

As usual, no matter how much I learn about this game, some of what Fuzzball says is just a mystery to me. But I love it.

Really wish they would implement an actual marketplace for selling/buying, the current system is horrible.

ruhk wrote:

At this point the current system is so adopted by the community that the devs will almost certainly never change it, and if you suggest it on reddit or the official forums, you'll get shouted down by the throngs of people arguing it is better than any alternative.

Edited - However, I wholeheartedly agree with you.

Maybe that's something they can fix in Path of Exile 2.

it's actually something they've said that's on their list. just low on priorities..

Trading is a real mess this league. Other leagues I've been able to buy and sell pretty well but this league I get very few answers to my requests and I find that when I'm selling, because of the nature of the league mechanic it's tough to answer requests. If I stop to whisper I'm going to die or miss out on my fog time. Also, it seems like the whole trade api interface has been out of sync for most of the league. I get whispers on stuff that was gone hours and a few times days ago.

Thanks for pointing out the cheap six link prophecies this league Fuzzball. I hadn't looked. I wonder why they're so cheap this league?
