With the year just starting out, Backloggery is at 2. At least the number is a positive? Progress might not be as impressive as I'd hoped, but I was sick, I spent a LOT of time on the GOTY and GOTD. Limited progress is still progress, and I ticked off two of the games I said I wanted to get to, so... Still a win in my book.

January Report. A big fat zero. I've been really tired with work and kids lately. I've been working a bit more on Trails in the Sky SC more. Keep on rolling with that.

Popping in here with my (optimistic) backlog plan for 2020:

Two Point Hospital
Endless Legend
Total War: Three Kingdoms
Dragon Quest XI
Disco Elysium
Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic
Transport Fever 2
Project Hospital
Fire Emblem: 3 Houses

Made a ton of progress in Two Point Hospital in January and I believe that I am < 10 hours away from finishing it. Really a fantastic game and I'll be sad to see the credits roll. Still undecided as to whether I'll try to work my way through the DLC (thus, adding to the pile) or move on to Endless Legend.

Oh wow, already February. I was going to come up with a plan for the year but then settled on playing a variety of games from the pile and enjoying myself. Only a couple big announced games that I am interested in so plenty of pile time.

January report:

Added:
Nothing!

A Hat in Time

I am slowly making my way through God of War and will work toward finishing this game in February.

Goals for Q1 2020: Done with two of my six goals for this quarter, so I'm at a good pace. I may go back later and finish out the optional stuff in A Short Hike and God of War.

Spoiler:

A Short Hike
Gris
God of War (2018)
Ys Origin - Yunica, Hugo, Toal
Disco Elysium
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Just added Tokyo Mirage Sessions™ #FE Encore but I dropped Day Gone almost as soon as I played an hour of it.

Added:
Mass Effect: Andromeda - more because it was $5 and I wanted to test the new "PS back button" attachment.
Days Gone - watched a lets play and wanted to play again.
Thronebreaker - I want to support anything set in the Witcher world.

Finished/Dropped:
Control
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
* both by just being done with them rather than seeing the credits roll.

Update.

-I have agreed to send Lugi's Mansion 3 off to another GWJer since I wasn't ready to dig into it.
- I have "finished" Control for me. I didn't see the credits roll but I don't really care that much about that. It is feeling very samey so I am ok with calling it good. It was fun but after several hours it is just the same stuff over and over.
- I have been loving Astral Chain so I think that might be my next focus.

farley3k wrote:

So for me I want to finish*

Lugi's Mansion 3
Yakuza Kiwami
Control
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Astral Chain
Y's VIII
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey

Games I know are coming out that I want to play
Cyberpunk 2077
Final Fantasy 7 remake

And a couple I want to play more of because I love them

Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Witcher 3

That seems like a doable list actually.

*finish to me doesn't mean see the credits it means feel like I beat the game. I already feel that way about Breath of the Wild and the Witcher 3 but I just love playing them so much I want to play them more.

It's been 45 days since I last bought a game. This might actually be a record.

I am just doing a lot of shopping around for my next fix.

After 10+ hours of Tokyo Mirage Sessions™ #FE Encore I bounced off it. I just didn't care about the characters. Instead it inspired me to play Persona 4 golden which I never finished!

It will be interesting at the end of the year to see if I actually have any games I finished to the credits.

  • American Truck Simulator
  • Disco Elysium
  • Else Heart.Break()
  • King's Bounty: Crossworlds
  • King's Bounty: The Legend
  • KOTOR II
  • Lair of the Clockwork God
  • Mass Effect Andromeda
  • Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition
  • The Sims 4
  • Watch Dogs 2
  • Yakuza 0
  • Yakuza Kiwami
  • Yakuza Kiwami 2

I finished Ni No Kuni II this month, which is also the first game I've beaten at all this year. But then had some travel (some expected, some not), and I went and bought Lair of the Clockwork God and resubscribed to FFXIV. Alas, poor backlog.

Life's gonna be busy the next month or so, so I'm not expecting much in the way of further progress. I installed American Truck Simulator. That's progress, right?

Oh gosh, the month ends in 48 hours and I haven't finished a single game. *cries*

February report:

Added:

Finished:
None

Dropped:
Pushmo (3DS)

Played:

  • Monster Hunter World Iceborne (PS4)
  • Ring Fit Adventure (Switch)
  • Tomb Raider II (PC)
  • Tomb Raider III (PC)

Progression. Not a single thing. I've finished a couple books though.
I've mostly been Switch here and there. Demon X Machina is a very cool Armored Core kind of game.

February was a pretty productive month!

Added
Frostpunk
Pathfinder: Kingmaker
Eliza

(all three were part of February's Humble Monthly and I just couldn't pass up the chance to grab all three for $14.99)

Finished
Two Point Hospital

It took me ~70 hours to finish everything. This game was SO much fun. The original Theme Hospital was one of my favorite games of all time and this satisfied that same itch completely. All I need is a reboot of Impression's Pharoah and I will be a very happy person.

There are two expansions that have been released which I plan to pick up the next time they go on sale.

Played
Frostpunk

I wasn't initially sure if I would like this but I stuck with it and it's started to get its hooks into me. We'll see how far I get.

Dropped
Eliza

The first two hours of this visual novel were pretty intriguing, but the pace then slowed down considerably and I lost interest.

I actually had a slow start to the year, but February was pretty good.

Added:
Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Finished:

I'll be starting Fire Emblem: Three Houses over the weekend and then Animal Crossing....might be a slow March

I don't have anything unplayed, and I've put some serious time into exactly 75% of the games I've bought recently.

So what's that last 25% that I haven't put much effort into?

  • Starlink: Battle for Atlas
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan
  • Divinity Original Sin 2

[...]

Maybe one of my goals for February should be to put some meaningful time into these games, but I'm not sure when. Man of Medan seems a likely candidate for that since I'm playing it co-op, but the other two are on the Switch and right now my Switch time is all booked up.

Well, I ended up playing through Man of Medan in co-op and finished it up. I finished five other games, rolling credits on four of them.

Otherwise, it was a bit of an all over the place month. By my best guess, I put some time into twelve different games and I'm now ten to twelve hours deep into four different JRPGs. But you know what I didn't do? I didn't even touch Starlink or Divinity.

I kept up my streak of not buying anything, although I suspect I'll break that soon. As in, very likely in the next couple hours.

Finished:
A Plague Tale: Innocence
Control

Playing:
Dragon Quest XI

Still going a bit slow in the new year. And soon all the new games arrives :/

You folks know we still have tomorrow, right? It’s a leap year and I’ll be damned if I’m not taking that extra day before I make my report!!!!

I'm pretty confident I won't be finishing anything by end of day tomorrow.

Goals for Q1 2020: Other than finishing another run through Ys Origin, I'm no further than last month.

Spoiler:

A Short Hike
Gris
God of War (2018)
Ys Origin - Yunica, Hugo, Toal
Disco Elysium
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Sorry Eleima, but I, too, will not be finishing anything more this month. To the report I go!

GAMES COMPLETED:

  • Gears of War 3
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
  • Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
  • Gears of War 4
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

GAMES PLAYED:

  • Fire Emblem: Awakening
  • ReCore
  • Halo 5
  • Darksiders: Genesis
  • 428 Shibuya Scramble

SHORT AND SWEET:
Some decent progress in terms of games completed, but given that they were almost all replays it kind of takes some of the joy out of that list of completion. I played a lot this month, but there's not much that's really sticking. Nonetheless, I hope to get plenty of other games finished in March.

THE OVERWROUGHT NAVEL-GAZING:

Spoiler:

On February 5th my boss called me up to let me know I was laid off. It was kind of unexpected, and it was infuriating because I was trying to be proactive and make sure I was of use to the company because... well, for reasons I'm struggling to put to words that doesn't make the company I worked for sound incompetent. I've since received my final paycheck and severance, but I actually enjoyed working from home, I was finally adjusting to the flow of things, and I was hoping to hold onto it as ...well, as the thing that allows me to pay bills, buy groceries, and live. To top things off, I got hit by an ear infection that lasted me near the whole month. I struggled with my planned video for my channel, struggled to write at all, and by the middle of the month I basically did nothing but play Danganronpa and watch some anime because I just... didn't know what else to do but escape.

I'm still struggling, to be honest. It stinks that my next therapy appointment isn't for another week-and-a-half, because I could use a place to sit and discuss how utterly lost I am. I had finally adjusted to devoting my day job time to my day job, working on my YouTube and blog on the side as a hobby, and trying to figure out in what manner I can better serve my Church and my faith. Losing my job has caused it all to go aimless, and I feel as if I'm wasting more time than anything else. Really, I've wasted February, if we're talking from a productive standpoint.

However, I've decided I'm going to start setting my alarm again and trying to work by a schedule. I want each day to be dedicated, yes, in part to my blog and YouTube, but then in part to working on my Church's website, in part to job hunting, and in part to just... well, me. What will that look like in March? I dunno. I tried to make a video for Godzilla 2014 but I'm so unused to discussing film that the script was having trouble coming together. Illness also made it tough to find time to work on something seriously. I've now finished recording footage on Ocarina of Time, and have a far more clear and confidant vision for such a video. This means in March I'll probably resume recording FFVII and Tokyo Mirage Sessions.

I'm still unsold on DOOM Eternal, so don't know if I'll be purchasing that day one. Given I just spent some cash on the Big in Japan sale and need to be careful with funds, I think I'll hold back anyway. The only thing I hope to purchase in March is Persona 5 Royal. I've got enough other games to play, though who knows what I'll finish at this point. ReCore was interesting but not really enticing. Darksiders Genesis has been a struggle. It just feels bland compared to the other games in the series. I ought to return to Pokemon Shield, but... I dunno.

Danganronpa and 428 Shibuya Scramble have taught me that visual novels are something I enjoy, and right now they are far more compelling than most of what's been on my plate. Still, I don't like this degree of gaming tourism and want to finish stuff that I start.

I dunno. We'll see. It's going to be tough to get me out of the downward feelings I have. If I can get a schedule going next week, I think that will help. Regardless, I'll definitely be completing 428 Shibuya Scramble, Halo 5 is the current co-op game for my buddies and me, and FFVII and Tokyo Mirage Sessions will likely be intently played as well.

With the leap year, it's time for the February report.

Backloggery is unchanged at 2. The GOTD took up a truckload of time, but I'm hoping things will pick up in March, despite the upcoming move. Glad I managed to play this month's adventure game for the club. And it's really good. Silence is really, really good, and I really recommend it!

Been a very busy month

PC Gamepass games.

Rambles:
Last month I was right, this month sucked in terms of mental stress, that resulted a lot of retail therapy gaming and not gaming, I did end up play a bunch of Switch stuff, Pokemon ended up being my escape for 3 weeks during February, but I had/having a hard time filling in the gap. I finally got around finishing up Outer Worlds, took a bit being only really able to put in time on weekends. I'm still bouncing between games on switch trying to find a game to fill the happy void left by pokemon. Suggestions would be welcome.
March hopefully will have a firm resolution to my RL stress issues, as far as gaming, I am planning to pick up Animal Crossing and I guess Persona 5 since that comes out on 31st.

I guess I was pretty conservative in February...

Added:

Resident Evil HD remaster (PS4)
Black Mesa (Steam)
Paper Mario: Color Splash (Wii U)
Star Fox Zero (Wii U)
Star Fox Guard (Wii U)
Assassin's Creed: Origins (Uplay)

Slid in Control last minute. Feels good to finally beat a game after 2 months of nothing. Other than that I made a little progress in Danganronpa and Ring Fit Adventure. I also booted up A Plague Tale: Innocence and Final Fantasy XV via Xbox Game Pass for PC just to see if they worked ok. For some reason I couldn't use my go to PC controller, the ps4 controller on the former. I figured it was Microsoft snubbing Sony accessories but then it worked when I played FFXV. Whatever Also, briefly tried Bloodborne after seeing the GOTD article. Loved it but I don't know if I can commit to it right now.

Plans for March are to continue with the games I made progress with last month and pick up Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I might get the Control DLC too if it continues the story in meaningful ways.
