Baba O'Riley is one of my favorite songs of all time. I bloody love The Who. Did you ever see the Think Geek video of Baba O'Riley played on their toy instruments?

Makes me sad they got swallowed up gamestop.

Honestly, you can trace Reznor's musical shifts through the people he worked with over the years.

This is especially true on Pretty Hate Machine. Trent was mentored by Al Jorgensen of the band Ministry. Remember, at first Ministry was a Depeche Mode sound-alike before they went industrial. Pretty Hate Machine has both industrial sounding songs as well as Depeche Mode sounding songs.

Industrial needs a major revival.

Beware the double post.

Industrial needs two major revivals?

Damn right. Bring back Zoltar!
Stupid double post.

Where is a good place for someone who has only engaged with their hits to begin to look into the Nine Inch Nails discography?

I would say, start right at the beginning, with the understanding that the band transitions from a more synthpop style on the first album (Pretty Hate Machine) to the industrial metal they're more known for by the second album (The Downward Spiral), with their first EP (Broken) kinda bridging that transition.

LOL, yes, I should've specified what album people would recommend I start with.

Mudbunny, when are you going on your trip?

If you want some good flavor, Blacksburg will be off the path by 15 minutes, but is a great place to visit with the added bonus of the Virginia Tech campus, which is considered a very beautiful campus. There's been a lot of development around there in the last 20 years thanks to the campus and some tech businesses that have taken root there.
Roanoke is definitely a small city, and there's the Star you can go hike up to, even at night. You may still end up driving 15 minutes off your route to get to whatever hotel you find. Either way, you can find some decent hotels in both locations, and some quick sites to see. But yeah, those are your 2 best bets, unless you head just past where your route changes to I-77 and go to Wythville. I do no recommend that, though. It's mostly just interstate fare.

I went to school and lived there (summers and all) from 2000-2005, and visited a few times over the years. Vargen around here still lives down there, so you may want to ask him.

All of a sudden, I found myself in love with the world
So there was only one thing that I could do
Was ding a ding dang my dang a long ling long

Gary Numan is not on that list? LIES.

(If you have not heard it, 2017's "Savage" is a great theme album.)

If you were going to mount a 4d puzzle how would you do it? The puzzle is 28in x 19in and about 1.5in in height.

What I was thinking of is getting a frame that is 29in x 20in and center the puzzle in that. I don't think I can do a exact size because frames usually hide about inch of the poster to hold it in place.

you need a frame that it can be mounted to in the next 2 weeks.

Yeah, the time dimension... I mean, you have to put it up at exactly the right time, and take it down with precision, or it'll... do things... to the wall...

Have/has/had you acquired a flux-capacitor?

Mount it on a hypercube. Duh.

The Rammstein/Laibach bit made me laugh.

BTW, Laibach is still just as weird as they've always been. They (recently-ish) released a complete cover album of The Sound of Music and it's amazing.

Those are really fun, Rick, I need to look into that.

Is the album LuLu a good Lou Reed album, or a bad Metallica album?

You mean a Time Cube.

Friends! I come to you seeking information. I'm moving from Wyoming to Arizona in approximately four weeks and would like some suggestions for a moving company that one of you have either used themselves or heard good things about. I've looked into my sole local option and come away with a pretty pricey estimate.

Spoiler:

$5500-$5900 to move from an apartment into a pre-furnished trailer. Having never made a move like this before, perhaps this value is normal? But the cost seems a little much to me.

If possible, I'd like to avoid the use of a trailer company like U-Haul, though I'm afraid for that being my only reasonably priced option. Thanks!

How much stuff do you have? If you use a pack and move company yeah they basically start at $5,000. Depending on how much stuff you have there are other options. I have moved cross country many times and can recommend some things.

Don't they have PODs or something like PODs for interstate delivery?
That has got to be cheaper than $5K no?

IIRC, a Pod was around $1500 for a small-ish enclosed trailer that held more than it looked like it would, from New Hampshire to Maryland. We had two guys from U-Haul help us out with the larger pieces and boxes, and they did a great job. An entire apartment might be double that? Drop-off, pickup and delivery were on-time and flexible (we had to change some times and locations a bit). Everything was in good shape afterwards. Can recommend.

They were really good about the details during the pricing phase, too.

I forgot to mention that I'm doing all my own boxing up. I'm bringing with me a Queen-sized bed/base, a collapsible metal shelving unit, and two dozen or so 16x16x17 boxes of stuff.

I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

Then you can probably get one of the smaller Pods. Definitely talk to them.

If that is all you have your cheapest option will be to rent a van and drive it yourself. If you need to bring a car too that you can't tow that is different. Heck you could even just pack up your car with your stuff, tie the mattress to the top in a bag, and drive. Then mail / UPS whatever boxes didn't fit. Alternatively if you have a hitch or can get one installed, you could rent one of the little UHaul trailers.

Otherwise your next cheapest option will be like a small Pod or Uhaul equivalent. From what I remember the Pods pricing starts at about $1,000, you're probably looking at $1,500ish for crossing multiple states. For that price you could just ditch the mattress, stuff your car, mail the rest, and buy a new mattress when you get there. I think the Uhaul version has a smaller / cheaper option than Pods but I don't know enough to compare the quality.

Who the f*ck is Tamron?
Who the f*ck is Mel Robbins?

The beauty of Pods is that you don’t have to do the driving. So for example, if you have to drive your car down, you might not be able to haul a big enough trailer, and you might have to enlist a friend to drive the truck, or fly back, or whatever.

But yeah, DIY is always going to be less expensive.
