Mass Effect Series Catch-All

Thank you, SpacePPoliceman, I've commented there.

Pretty Hard Mass Effect Quiz

I'm ashamed that I only got 16 of 20.

I got 10 out of 20! Guess it's time for a replay. Where's my trilogy remaster!

And I have to contest one:

Spoiler:

The "Virmire survivor" question is worded poorly, they should have clarified we were talking about party members, because knowing this was "Pretty Hard" led me to assume we were talking about the obscure character Rana who can also survive Virmire. Poor psychometric design, quiz makers.

18 out of 20. Missed the planet you meet the Virmire survivor on and Wrex's dad's name one. I will admit that I am a good test taker who often doesn't know the right answer, but is good at whittling the possibilities down to a 50/50 on a multiple choice exam.

Oh that survivor. Didn't even realized they meant Ashley

This is the thought I have every time I notice this thread suddenly pop up again.

14/20. And I feel bad about it. Not the score, the fact that I saw this tread and got my hopes up... again.

8/20

It's been a while...

MAKE THE REMASTERS ALREADY!

17 out of 20. Same argument about the virmire survivor question. I also got the final 2 wrong.

15/20.

Spoiler:

I missed the one about whether Mordin can survive in ME3, Wrex's father's name, Nassana's sister's name, the Vorcha homeworld, and the former inhabitants of Ilos.

For the Vorcha and Ilos ones, I'm betting those were codex only? Never heard those in dialogue that I can recall.

I know you kill Nassana's sister in ME1, but damned if I remember her name. You never talk to her, you just shoot her.

If Wrex mentions his father's name, I don't remember it. And Mordin's survival - that would have required me to play through ME3 enough to try alternatives to that dialogue tree, and I have only ever fully played through ME3 once. I've failed to finish subsequent playthroughs... like 4 times now. The game is just not as interesting to me.

What do you mean? Ashley always dies.

Please allow me to be the first to object that the "Pretty Hard Mass Effect Quiz" includes no questions about Andromeda.

Also, I only played the first game ten years ago. 7/20.

18. Missed the Vorcha homeworld and Illos inhabitants questions.

Is there a German word for when your elaborate fan fiction universe obscures the details of the work from which it was derived?

I...wait, really?

LOL, no. I made it up literally using Google translate.

20/20

I shall rule supreme. B)

14/20.... Surprised I actually did that well since I haven't played in a very long time.

Be nice to play again if they did a proper remake.

17/20. Not as bad as I had feared!

The only possible ending. Green, red, or blue: whichever you pick, Eleima knows all.

Ok, y'all.

Last night I spent a few hours installing the ALOT texture mod along with about 20 other visual mods for Mass Effect 3. It took me a few tries, I downloaded the wrong thing in one case, it hung partway through the second attempt, but finally it worked. I loaded up one of my old saves to see how it was working, and wow.

Eight years worth of talented and dedicated (obsessed?) people working on HD textures has resulted in a pretty amazing result. Unfortunately I'm concerned that this is going to make me want to reinstall the whole series.

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

Thank you for sharing. Tempted. From what I understand, the mass effect pc bundle does not come with any dlc so it’s an expensive proposition to go all in.
Can you see a noticeable difference with the upgrades?
Other cool mods that impact gameplay or reduce/improve systems?

Thank you,
Chad

I try to avoid mods that affect gameplay in any game. Cosmetic for me. ALOT + all the other mods it suggests you download make a significant difference.

Of course, it’s still obviously an old game. No atmospheric effects (fog, smoke, depth of field), limited lighting effects, plastic skin, and flappy jaw puppet speech animation (though a bit better than South Park Canadians). The textures and improved lighting go a long way, though.

That's also generally my approach, however, in ME2, I make an exception for the "no minigames" mod - it turns all the hacking minigames into automatic wins, and makes it so that you can launch a single probe at a planet and get all the resources. Those weren't necessarily "bad" when the game came out (although I always hated planet scanning), but on subsequent replays, they really take away from the overall experience. Nothing is lost for me when they're removed.

Yeah, those sound useful. I think around the time ME and ME2 were made, minigames were all the rage. I haven't seen one in years.

Inexplicably, QTEs seem immortal.

Good minigames in larger games make them seem fuller and cater to more people. So long as they're optional, they're fine. The best ones become invisible or are eventually incorporated into the main game's mechanics.

And it should be noted that a large number of the minigames in ME2 are optional - especially the ones that just straight-up give you money on success. There are a few doors in the game that you are required to hack through, but there's no failure state, because if there were, you couldn't open a door you literally need to in order to keep playing.

Now, for people pursuing the best ending of the game, skipping all that money and planet scanning is likely not optional, but they're certainly not required to finish the game.

Even so. Modding them out is juuuuust fine with me.

I must be the only person in the world who didn't hate the ME2 mini games. My main issue with them is that they tended to cluster a bunch of them together. You could play for an hour without doing one and then get three in the same little side room. Resource scanning sucked though.
