Modded Minecraft Multiplayer Server

Maybe we can split the various differences, and start MCE next Friday evening - Feb 21. That'll give the last stragglers of DDSS another week to wrap up what they've been working on.

Oh yeah, night time is very scary in this pack. Torch all the things! I just dipped my toes a bit and it seems cool if very kitchen sink-y. It does have Ore Excavator from the get-go and all the basic recipes, so I'm excited to give it a more thorough try.

I'm continuing to have problems with the pack. My first issue turned out to be a broken video driver, not the pack. Second, apparently OptiFine is incompatible with one of the mods. Third, I'm having pack lockups, and just had to restore from a backup. Why don't the adventuresome among us load up my world and check it out. I will send a zip to Merphle.

[EDIT:] The lockup may also be a further problem with the video driver, or something else. I'm opening an issue with nVidia support. The issue is very odd. The system can lock up when I go outside, including by climbing a ladder through my roof. Since you don't have my video setup, it might not affect you at all. Or maybe I shouldn't have smoked that Arkansas Polio Weed.

Go figure. I messed around with the M/C video settings and my system is running normally.

The Twitch client seems to be struggling with the latest version of the MC.Eternal modpack; folks on the MCE Discord are saying it's a Twitch client problem, that they're aware of the problem, and no indication for when it'll be fixed. If you're having trouble installing the pack, I'd suggest trying an independent Minecraft manager app, such as MultiMC or GDLauncher.

What version are we gonna run? What time tomorrow is the goal for starting?

Latest version as of now: 1.3.3

I've been trying to download the DDSS world all night long, so I can keep an archive before wiping the server instance and setting it up with MCE. I'm hoping to have it built and running sometime Friday morning (ET) for smoke-testing, and probably reset the world in the afternoon before declaring it ready for business.

Sweet, I'll probably hop on tonight if everything goes smoothly.

If you do manage to archive the world I’d like to grab a copy if possible.

Yes, installation troubles with MC.Eternal in Twitch led to me installing MultiMC.

This actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I hate the Twitch client and I only ever use it for Minecraft. Fingers crossed I never have to run it again.

GWJ DDSS v7.1a - beware, it's a 5GB download, 7zipped.

New MC.Eternal server (v1.3.3) is up and running with a temporary world. I invite folks to log in and poke around for the next few hours - just be aware that the world and player inventories will be wiped clean when we go live tonight - around 7PM ET / 4PM PT. The new server address is mce.merphle.com, but it's taking an unusually long amount time to propagate across the internet; if you get a "can't resolve hostname" error, the old ddss.merphle.com address should still work.

Spawn is on a pretty small island, fortunately the spawn protection area is rather small. But the island itself might be a bit tight for a multiplayer world. On the other hand, there seem to be pirate ships right off the coast!

This is just a temporary world. Permanent world is on a different seed, courtesy Mastrude.

When the new world comes up, I'd like to focus on making a mystical ag setup at spawn, together with AE2. Anyone who would like to work on this is welcome. I have tier 5 inferium seeds, and several item seeds, all of which can be propagated to share. On this server one of the farmers actually propagates M/A seeds, which I haven't seen before. It takes about 18 hours for the seeds to double. [EDIT:] This farmer is a PiTA in other ways, tho.

The Nether is definitely dangerous. In addition to blaze juggernauts, there are creepers that throw TNT at you!

New post with the latest server information.

For Vanilla Minecrafters who would like to learn more about Modded Minecraft, I present:

Hello, can I be whitelisted for this mce server? Thanks!

"Festive Creepers"

The key with them is to just keep running.

Here's a reddit thread of tips on MC.Eternal.

Here are a couple tips of my own:

  • You can easily create Tech Reborn refined iron easily by putting iron ingots in a normal furnace. Refined iron has ridiculously good Tinkers Construct stats, even though it can't mine cobalt. It's probably the best early early game TiCo material.
  • You can create Thermal Foundation steel easily in the Tinkers Construct smeltery by alloying iron with coal. Steel is not as good as refined iron for TiCo tools, but steel is needed for many recipes in Thermal Foundation and Immersive Engineering. No need to build a slow Blast Furnace unless you need creosote for treated wood.
  • To move a chest without emptying it, you can use a Mekanism cardboard box. Most of Mekanism is locked out, but the box can be created from saw dust/wood pulp easily obtained from Ender IO or Forestry.
  • The Cyclic Sack of Holding can also move chests and can apparently grab spawners as well.
  • Haven't found any slimes yet but you need a slime ball? Create one from rice: 6 rice will create 4 rice dough, then craft the 4 rice dough with a bucket of water to get a rice slimeball. The rice slimeball can be used in recipes that call for a green slimeball.

Edit: one caution about the Cardboard Box: it changed the wood type of a birch chest to dark oak, and another time to jungle wood.

You may have noticed that Storage Drawers don't need to be taped when breaking them, they'll "auto-tape" and retain their contents when you break the block.

The exception is framed drawers (the kind you customize the colors). They lose their entire contents when you break them. The contents don't drop, they just vanish.

Fortunately I only lost stone and cobble.

Merphle, please do 'tcresearch all' for me, and anyone else who asks. Thank you.

I do not care to repeat all that work for the (in my case) fourth time.

All, at 9:10 I was killed twice. While all my stuff from the prior kill was floating around in the air the f*cking game froze for me for long enough that everything despawned. I lost everything and there is no grave. I'd like to do a restore. So please don't log on until our ONLY server admin can restore. Needs to be an admin with the ISP as well as in the game, so only Merph can do it. Someone else like me, who has worked with this ISP, should also be an admin.

Another solution would to restore from the grave which no longer exists, if that's possible;.

I'm not the only server admin. Restore is in progress from the last backup, which was a while before your incident.

For future reference, there's also a command that an OP can run to restore an inventory from an issue like this:

/tbrestore load_player

Also, why was your stuff floating? It should've been put into a grave, and when you open the grave with the key it should go immediately into your inventory - nothing floating.

All - Please be advised that going forward, I will not be restoring our from backup unless the world is corrupted and crashing the server. Individual item losses can be /given on a case-by-case basis, to avoid impacting everyone else's experience.

Yeah, I lost a bunch of work from last night.

I'm sorry that happened. I thought backups were more frequent. Only Crypto and I were logged on, and we both logged off then. As things went apparently Crypto and I, as well as Quintin, must have lost a bunch of work.

What happened was that I got a magic grave key and teleported back to my death site. Apparently the key opened the grave. I was killed, apparently before I could even magnetize my stuff to me, so my inventory was still empty when I died again. There was no new grave.

Following that, the server or my client was paralyzed for long enough, apparently, for stuff to despawn.

Hoping someone can help me remove this overlay, shown in the screenshot below (A gift? 100%, Stone Key 100%, SIgn here... here...):

I can't figure out how to get rid of it. Thanks!
