Rocket League Catch All

Virge used some useful overlays to explain this well

This is a great video, best explanation of rotations I have seen. The overlays are great and really help to visualize and understand the importance of spacing while you're rotating. I dig the positive vibe he is putting out. Rocket League, and the world in general, needs more of that.

Played against Sizz (Ex pro player and NRG coach) in ranked today. That was an intense game. You can tell by shots and saves which end of the field we spent most of the match in

Yowza, you were getting peppered, good job making it a one goal game.

I should have saved the replay. I want to learn from seeing my play from his perspective.

When I play with Bozo most games are against GCs and while that is great practice it’s really bad for my current rank.

I know the feeling!

One of my main goals this season is to get a steady 1v1 ranking of platinum 1. I think it’s really showed the technical hole in my game and actually making me play a bit better in other modes (as many people suggested it would!) I’m not too far off now.

I’ve also been doing a few of the drills from a video Panda linked, as well as trying to improve my overall aerial game by simply spinning around the arena edge with the air roll button pressed down at all times (this is a weakness I’ve identified.)

I’m now fairly comfortable in diamond 3 for 2v2 thanks to the practice, and I’m hoping to push onto getting back to champion 1. I did get there, as high as Champ 1 division 3, but I guess I was just in form then!

So, overall, defensive positioning and keeping is very good, but a lot to do still on aerial control and offensive stuff like flicks or better control. Definitely seeing some gradual improvements with just 10-20 minutes practice a day though.

There is a workshop map for Rocket League called "Aim Trainer (new update) - By CoCo" and it is pretty great for shot practice. You have to hit a bunch of targets in a row and it randomizes the target location on each shot. On regular mode the target is much smaller than a net and it's like shooting at a particular corner of the net. On easy mode the target is the same size as a net. Good practice for those people we know who can’t hit open nets...

Due to the server issues Psyonix has decided to extend the Lucky Lanterns event and give everyone 500 red envelopes which is probably irrelevant if you play a lot already but if you have any alt accounts (even family share ones) they get the envelopes too and it’s enough to get 3 golden crates you can transfer to your main account.

This is great news! My kids mainly enjoy playing when there's an event going on, so the server issues have been a bummer.

Oh good idea, I forgot about my Switch and PS4 accounts.

That 500 pushed me over the last items. Wasn't planning on grabbing all 3 decals but what the hell.

Boosting while supersonic- isn't this just a waste of boost? You can't go faster than supersonic even while boosting, right?

I've been reviewing my games a lot on ballchasing.com lately in particular boost management. I've noticed that a lot of players, even pro players are using a lot of boost while supersonic while I don't. That was intentional because I thought I read it didn't make you go any faster, but now I'm questioning it, or maybe there is a reason to do it anyhow that I'm not aware of.

Actually you can go slightly faster than supersonic if you boost (see video below) it's just not worth it most of the time. That being said, a lot of people do it by accident.

If you want to learn something very useful stop front flipping when moving around the field and start doing diagonal flips. Diagonal flips give you as much forward momentum as a front flip but you can boost all the way through it so you don’t have to alternate boosting and flipping to accelerate fast. Also, the fastest known flip in the game that makes the best use of boost while flipping is a diagonal flip cancelled into an air roll which is easier to learn if you’ve already got diagonal flips figured out. One skill leads to the other.

Not sure if this is a common realisation, but the training I’m finding most beneficial to my overall game are shooting exercises. I’ve been working through “shots you shouldn’t miss”, and it’s helping me so much all around the offensive side of the game in that I’m now much more focused in my head of how to prep myself and hit the ball in the right area. I still can’t get more than 3/10 in that pack, but I just keep repeating shots until I put them in. I’ve seen great improvement in a short space of time!

yup

Anybody know of a source for a top down view of all the fields? I'm interested in looking at the differences in field markings.

Worst case you can go into a replay, set free look, move your camera all the way up, then take a screenshot.

Have you tried that shooting workshop map? It’s pretty great. I’ve been doing a few minutes of it daily and I’m already improving.

Great video.

Not yet, only just realised it! My best score on "shots you shouldn't miss" currently stands at 6/10. I've been grinding it a fair bit and it helping all aspects of my game. Even hitting the ball better in the air!

Another good video on rotation/positioning/back post.

So I can't download this map. I am subscribed to the creator, but I can't download it. Any ideas?

Don’t you have to sub to the map itself? Not the creator?

I am subbed to the map, but no download button. Do you download it in game?

Yep, got it.

It is automatically downloaded by steam once you subscribe. Shows up in Workshop menu in game.

Looks like people are creating art with Rocket League bots now

That vid is sponsored by the Indy Gaming League, anybody interested in signing up for 2s, 3s, or 4s?

Well the first one automatically wins because they used King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard as their backing track.

That's impressive. I've been trying the same training pack with a lot less luck. I just spend probably 20 minutes working on the first 3 shots and can barely get any of them to go in. I'm guessing I went a combined 6/70 on those shots.
