I'm willing to be evangelized about The Division 2, if anyone wishes to make the case. I liked TD1's alpha and beta, and love third person open world games. Love multiplayer. On the other hand, I think I'm worn out on grindy quasi-MMOs like Destiny.

I enjoyed the heck out of it until I hit end game, so for cheap it is a good time that can be mostly maybe entirely solo until end game.
Good gun mechanics, good maps. Some jankiness, but fun overall. However, it is effectively Destiny and similar with another skin on top.

Div2 has a pretty good feel as a shooter. Builds can be important but really unless you want to optimize you'll do just fine picking the item with the biggest numbers or that makes you happiest some other way. It's good for short game times- you can fast-travel near a target location, do a couple of short missions, and be done in half an hour. The level design is pretty good- it really feels like a suddenly-abandoned city.

I didn't find it grindy because I enjoyed the core loop enough, and I never felt the need to redo a particular instance or map area over and over for a particular item. Even though by endgame you'll probably be capturing some of the same control points a bunch of times there are enough of them that you can find a couple that you particularly enjoy assaulting, or just like executing a good plan on.

I'm not interested in raiding or semi-PVP in the Dark Zones, but I don't feel like I'm missing anything too special by not doing those things. I also haven't bought any of the DLC; I guess it would be nice but I'm not really missing it.

Division 2 was worth it alone just for the tourism value of walking around in what was an almost exact replica of that part of Washington D.C.; it's scary how accurate it is. I used to live there, and it was creepy as hell to traverse the city.

Burned out on the endgame pretty quickly, but had a great time before that.

I've been wanting to play Division 1 and/or Division 2, but since I'm primarily a single-player gamer, I haven't wanted to spend a lot of money on it, but for $3? YES!

I sprung for Division 2 at $15 and really enjoyed it. Played up until the Real Endgame unlocked, unsure how much more I'm going to do as far as the true grind is concerned, these enemies hit like trucks and scoff at my equipment at this point, but there's a LOT of fun to be had if you enjoy the playstyle, mechanics, and overall aesthetic.

One of the people I work with had to install a server down at Georgetown University, and she was running down a side road close to it in the game. She passed the fire station she parked near when she did the install and it shocked her that she knew exactly where she was. The funny thing is my coverage area as a Comcast lineman was White Oak, but nothing in that mission looks anything like any area I worked in. But I can go in game to the parking garage that I normally park at when we make day trips down to the Natural History Museum, which is a little trippy.

For $3, the single player game is a damn good deal. But like any online game, it really shines when you have a static group. On Uplay my ID is Veloreyn, so if any of you guys see me on just join group or invite me. I'm occasionally running with coworkers but if we have a spot open we'll run with pretty much anyone.

There's a concession stand right outside the Smithsonian Metro stop, and it's exactly the same in the game. I've bought stuff at that stand. Even weirder, I used to work for the American Red Cross, and the Biomedical division's headquarters is at 2025 E Street, which has the "2025" in big gold-colored numbers right above the door. In the game? The font is slightly different, but the "2025" is there, and it's the same building down to window placement. It's pretty clear they just grabbed Street View or some other data and just overlaid the graphics engine on top of it, because it's freaky how accurate it is. Gave me the damn willies.

Another classic Clocking.

UPDATE: For that price, I grabbed it.

It's great, worth checking out, but also wanted to mention it's also on Game Pass for PC.

Epic Games store has a Valentines Day sale. If you have a coupon from the holiday sale, you can use it for $10 off anything $14.99 or more. That'll knock things like Manifold Garden down to $7.99.

Ori is amazing.

Don't forget your free Kingdom Come: Deliverance on Epic.

I want Ori on Switch so I'll actually play it.

Aztec is also free on epic. Kingdom also has some DLC that is free but it might always be free. Looks like HD and sound packs.

Does anyone know if the multitude of game-breaking bugs mentioned in pretty much every review I read have ever been fixed?

There's been a decent amount of patching since release. From memory, there's nothing game-breaking, but some things are still a little bit janky occasionally. Think Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, perhaps.

Reminder that the developer of Kingdom Come is a gamergator, and that even for free, you're supporting him by getting this from Epic.

Am I though? Genuine question - does epic pay a flat fee to the publisher of games on their freebies? Or is that fee based on downloads?

Or am i missing a point that having it sit unplayed in my backlog somehow constitutes support?

If it contributes to his sales numbers, it's still support, even if he's not directly financially benefitting.

Feels like you're arguing that eating the free samples in the mall food court is supporting Panda Express.

I'm OK with that vanishingly small amount of support, to be honest. And like you, i had zero interest in giving them any of my money.

I think the difference is that Panda Express doesn't use their free sample numbers when trying to get funding for their next project. That said, you do you; I just feel like it's better for people to make informed decisions.

Vavra was (is?) definitely one of the more outspoken folks. For me, I basically assume just about any Eastern European and Russian bloc devs are more right of center than their Western counterparts.

I finished this a year ago with over 100 hours played, cannot recall many issues at all.

Ah, I had a vague sense of unease that there was something about that game that I was forgetting. Thanks.

I'd have to think that Epic is paying something to the developer, either a lump sum or a very small amount for each copy "purchased" during the sale period.

I think it's worse than what's being reported here. It's medieval Western civ designed by white nationalists, and it's designed to be provocative.

Alan Wake $3.74 (DRM: Steam) via Fanatical. After you play it you'll want to buy batteries.

Is that a thermos over there?
