Modded Minecraft Multiplayer Server

Just noting that it looks like the D&D&SS server WAS updated to 6.5 , so ignore the 'don't update to' posts anymore. Merphle's sig links to what I assume is the most accurate info, from what I can tell?

Correct! I updated my linked post here, the stickied post in Discord, broadcast a message in Discord, but apparently neglected to make a new post here advising of the update. Apologies.

I would be very interested to hear what he cool kids are using by way of crossbows in this pack. Also, would someone lend me a bunch of heat-proof potions? Shhhhh. Be vewy, vewy quiet. I'm hunting bwazes.

Would you guys assist me in getting a Celestial Gateway on to the network? I have barely begun astral sorcery. My current priority is to develop machinery, beginning with immersive engineering. I'd prefer not to change that.

I could build the marble parts of the gate and provide mats for the active "gate" part, if someone would activate it for me. I'll take things as far as I can myself. I don't have an empowerer to handle the void crystal, and I'm looking for osram now.

It's at 351,-137.

Hey, why not move spawn to the mercado? It would make it easier for us to get there?

That's not a bad idea, but spawn protection might prevent folks from helping build up Mercado.

That's one problem. Another is that having player near a village invites a zombie siege, which could both kill less combat-ready players and damage the village.

I can actually solve your problem. Spawn protection is voluntary and can be disabled in the server configs.

The spawn area could be a short, protected way from the Mercado, in another chunk. Mercado seems well fortified. I don't understand--why would a zombie siege endanger the villagers? (I'm not familiar with zombie sieges.)

Guys, it seems like you are done with DDSS. Do you have any thoughts about another pack? Don't keep DDSS running on my account You know I was never fond of it -- more than my usual number of rage quits.

Ranger and I started and were enjoying it, but once again life got busy... Maybe we should just accept that Modded Minecraft will have to wait for us for a few years

The DDSS server has been updated to version 7.1a. Please update your client, accordingly.

Hi all, I'd like to try out the server if possible?

Sure thing. You're now whitelisted. Have fun!

Yeah DDSS ended being a bit too grindy for me. I wasn't a fan of mods I'm used to having early be locked behind a lot of materials/production. I also think I just got a little burnt out. I'd be interested in the next pack whatever and whenever that may be.

I understand the feeling, though I kinda liked having some of the normally-early mods be locked away a bit - really forced me to try out mods that I usually ignore.

While I'm not advocating for a server modpack change yet, I did do a bit of research over the last couple of days to see what could be interesting in the future.

MC.Eternal (1.12) looks neat; it's similarly-sized to DDSS (about 300 mods), so on the weighty side. It does have an extensive quest book to help guide, but it uses basic crafting recipes, and only minor gating (e.g. a particular ore can only be found in The Betweenlands, but it generates in large veins). The author claims it to be a kitchensink pack, with quests to reward doing unusual things.

Just Not Enough Mods 2 (1.15), by comparison, is tiny (about 50 mods). No questing that I saw, but it seems like it might be worth checking out to see what the modded 1.15 scene looks like.

Server population decrease is sort of self-reinforcing. I like to play when more people are on. Partly for conversation and partly to show off/have shown off cool stuff.

Oooh! New server soon?!

I had a great time with World of Dragons. Now there's a fork that encourages more cooperation.

I shall be known as Oddrune Dragonslayer, defender of New Mercato!

I'll join in on whatever mod package we do next.

I would jump into an eternal server. Or whatever.

MC Eternal looks appealing to me.

I'm playing on Eternal right now. It's interesting. It presents a smooth, vanilla surface during the daytime in the overworld. Below the placid surface it's a dogfight. For example, the nether is a--how shall I say it?-ferocious battle to stay alive. One mostly loses this battle. The pigmen are instantly hostile. There's lots and lots of blazing juggernauts. There's lots and lots of lava singletons in the terrain. In the overworld, the night is hostile. There seem to be dungeons everywhere. The monsters move fast. There are nasty, disgusting new creatures.

I think the pack is young, and has rough edges. Some JEI recipes are screwed up. An (I think) bum minor version was just released--I fell back. There doesn't seem to be a Discord community yet. I have experienced a few lockups. I have not lost my world to bugs or had to perform a restore.

Resources are abundant. Instead of gating, though, some resources may be hard as hell to get, particularly nether resources. I'm trying to get blaze rods without setting a world record for dying. I have no ender pearls at all. I thought there were no ender lilies, but that's because the pack thinks the word has two "l"s. I have no end stone.

To summarize, the pack has a different balance in the effort to keep things interesting. I like it better than DDSS.

Good information, Roger. Thanks!

So, the contract I have on our DDSS server expires in 5 days. I'm happy to renew it if folks are still interested in playing DDSS. I could also renew the server and rebuild it for MCEternal, if that sounds appealing. The third option would be to renew the DDSS server and order a second server for MCE, but it would be disconnected from Discord as I don't have a third bot available to use.

Straw poll

Does the vendor have MC Eternal available yet?

Haven’t checked. If not, they usually respond within a day or two.

Edit: Yes, it does have MC Eternal, up through pack version 1.3.1 (latest pack version is 1.3.2)

I've actually had it running on a dedicated box, if you'd like to play it. MC.E has not been my favorite pack, but it seems to be pretty popular, all around.

I loaded 1.3.2.1 and backed off it.

I'll be out of town for nine days, starting tomorrow. So, I guess I vote for anything as long as it doesn't start until Feb. 25?

That said, if you want to start a new server, start a new server. I can catch up.

In the desert there are GIANT SANDWORMS that want to EAT YOU UP!

If you walk without rhythm, you won't attract the worm.

I'll load up MCE locally this weekend and give it a spin.
