Name that movie thread

101 Card Tricks to Fool Your Friends with Ricky Jay

House of Games?

I don't recognize it. I just searched for a Venn diagram of cast members.

Yeah, immediately recognized Ricky Jay. So he's probably doing a trick with those cards, but I have no idea what movie it is.

Looks like prime MST3K material...

This thread does often have a decent Mystery Science Theater 3000 feel to it!

Anyone ever check out a MST3K Live showing? They're swinging through the area this weekend, I just need someone to tip me over the edge.

House of Games it is. Man, am I the only person who's seen it? You folks missed out on a pretty incredible movie. For its time anyway, it's been much imitated (IMO) and the twists might seem a little old fashioned nowadays. Definite classic though.

Oddly enough not, he plays a regular gambler. But he consulted for the movie on... well, if anyone's going to watch it you'll enjoy it more if you go in completely cold, so I won't say. ;D

I'd never heard of it.
But considering it deals with gambling addiction, it was way ahead of its time.

That's probably mentioned in the trailers and whatnot, but it's only a minor thread of the movie. It's primarily about

Spoiler:

con artists and cons.

Freeplay!

Fwiw, David Mamet directed it, which is why it was way ahead of its time in terms of the writing. Or, at least why it was imitated.

Wait a flipping second!!!! I am the fool who started "don't know it" and I HAVE watched it. Multiple times. Even recommended it to people back in the day. Then obviously, erased it from my memory banks. I am both embarrassed by my failed memory and excited to be reminded of how much I loved this movie. Damn.

House of Games is currently on The Criterion Channel. I haven't seen it in ages.

Hunger Game: Japan?

Ermm... I mean Battle Royal?

Let's be fair. It was Battle Royal: America.

Hosted by Alton Brown?

I thought it was that scene from Cabin in the Woods...

OK, moving on then...

Good call! I bet that's what it is! I haven't seen the movie, but the manga is really cool and super creepy.

The first pic is clearly from the video for "Black hole sun" by Soundgarden.

It is Uzumaki!

Really looking forward to the animated version later this year.

Ravenous.

Finally one I knew and I was beaten to it! Ravenous was quite a movie. I remember loving it back when I first saw it, but that was years ago. Not sure if it still stands up.

Ravenous always creeped me out more because it might have happened. I can see someone believing/doing that back in the day.

I can see someone doing it now.

I thought you were going to say it creeped you out because Jeffery Jones is in it. For some reason it’s the movie that I’m most aware of him being in.

Was it that scene where he just plops down at the table and tries to be civil despite the fact that he's eating people? That unnerved me some.

Ravenous also has a delightfully weird soundtrack
