[News] Post a D&D Picture

Previous incarnations of Cleveland/P&C/D&D have had an image thread, to handle political cartoons and other image-based stuff that doesn't belong in the general post-a-picture threads.

If any of them spawn an extended discussion, please spawn it off into its own thread. Replies to non-picture replies should take the form of a link pointing to a post on a different discussion thread.

And I shouldn't have to say it, but the images still need to abide by the rules.

Modern smartphones have cameras ranging from okay to really good. I'd certainly not call using one unprofessional or incompetent.

I mean, whole movies have been filmed with just iPhones. Those were certainly neither of those things and I think it's great that so many people can get good to great cameras at a relatively cheap price.

He’s a professional photographer for the White House.

Yes, and you're saying that using an iPhone makes him unprofessional and incompetent, which implies the same for all other photographers. Which is horsesh*t.

You wanna make fun of him for other reasons, go to town. But you're way off base for going after him because he's using an iPhone.

That was an interesting article, but the guy pretty explicitly says his commissioned work is done with actual cameras and his phone photography is a novelty sidegig to his career as a photographer, and that he frequently returns to sites to reshoot with his normal equipment.

"Part of the fun is emulating what I do with the bigger camera. In many cases, I've done a shot on the phone then gone back and done it again on the large camera the next day -- often regretting I didn't do it at the time if the sky isn't as good!"

I assume those figures wrap in spending power and not just the absolute numbers.

Interesting to me that even CEOs haven't kept pace with college tuition rising.

To be fair, without attribution of where they got the stats it is kind of suspicious. I believe it is correct but I am not confident about the percentages.

A 1,120% increase since 1978 is a bit misleading since it's a multiple of the starting value, rather than an absolute increase. 4 year uni was something like $9K a year (adjusted for inflation) in 1978, while CEO's were making a an average of $1.5 million (adjusted for inflation), so it would be difficult for it to keep pace percentage-wise.

I'm guessing the higher tuition is offset by paying less taxes to fund colleges to begin with.

...as if their kids will go to those kinds of colleges in the first place.

So my full guess would be that the more the college charges, the better--keeps the kids of non-CEOs out.

the second paragraph of the response could even start "Other countries--like the ones our veterans liberated--scratch their heads..."

It almost as if economic averages and the stock market are not representative of citizens’ quality of life. Inconceivable!

It's almost as if the stock exchange indexes are going up because wages aren't.

I'm baffled how The Party gets people to ignore their experiences and the evidence of their own senses.

It is, I just wonder if rank-and-file union members will see it that way, and how long it will take for the leverage to wind up back in labor's favor. If right now you've fought hard for health care that's better than most workers, probably by giving ground on other issues, I could see how this is a tough question for labor unions.

I wonder if something like this could work: an incrementalism-with-teeth plan: one that eliminates *individual* plans and establishes a baseline Public Option for anyone who finds themselves without insurance. Don't eliminate plans offered to groups like a pool of employees right away. Instead, tweak the Public Option (from everything I've read, any plan (like Mayor Pete's) with a decent Public Option puts us on the road to Medicare For All anyway) and tax code so that non-unionized health care insurance plans become less and less financially attractive, while union-negotiated ones get better and better treatment in the tax code. Wind up with a landscape where if employers want to offer better-than-baseline health care insurance, they'll probably have to have a unionized work force first for it to make financial sense.

two birds, one stone?

choose the coverage that's best for them.

No one can choose the coverage that's "best" for them because those plans don't actually exist.

I was going to say they can't choose because they have no idea what costs will be. Even the hospital doesn't have a clue really until it is actually billed.

Hospitals can take a good chance at knowing what CMS rates etc are. They bill what they want all the time knowing the mix of their reimbursement.

If Bloomberg really wanted to save our Democracy he'd pay Trump to resign.
