Okay, now I guess I *have* to play again. This week be available on PC, correct?

Yes. The appreciation fest is on PC at the same time. Here's the roadmap for the next several months and event times for PC. PC and console should be synced up with each other in April.

That is a gorgeous armor set. I desire.

That'll also give us a chance to check off any special material missions we've missed before! For me, I think I mostly just didn't get enough Joyful tickets during the last event, but I guess I just have to see if that ever comes around again.

MH Mondays is love on PS4 as usual! Join me and beri as I try to bludgeon monsters to death with my head!

We used a variety of weapons! Some of them were effective! We did succeed at everything, with varying levels of terror, including one ornery Black Diablos that scored an early couple of knockouts.

Used the classic Rocky strategy -- let your enemy tire itself out beating you to death. Just when its get winded, you strike!

Disaclaimer: does nor work on T Rexs with Psychopower.

Who's on tonight? I might be late/out as I got sucked into a 5 man Stellaris game, where I am currently Skynetting the galaxy.

Can't make it again tonight, visiting family in the US away from my PS4. I should be able to join next week though.

I should be able to play for a couple hours tonight if Beri or anyone else is going to be around. Gotta get that Astral layered armor before the festival ends!

Do all the events give unity tickets? OR just select ones? I did "The shocking conclusion" (or I think it was called that) and got 3 or 4. Made the tier 12 Witcher Sword. I'm kinda tempted to try to chase the Dante Sword now.

Unity tickets are only available from that quest. The VIP Gratitude tickets are possible from any quest during the event. Much higher if wearing the 3 or 5 piece Astral set.

If you're just after the layered armor, craft the non-layered Astral. Then run Flora Frostbite from the central camp and head north. There are a half dozen harvesting points within a short jog and you can finish it in ~1 minute if you wear a gathering set for the extra harvests. You can get the 22 VIP tickets for the layered, deliveries, and pendants very quickly this way.

Absolutely, I'll be online tonight! Holy Barroths, there's a lot to do.

I definitely need to do A Shocking Climax once or many times.

I just put together a Light Bowgun build that should hopefully be quite effective against Safi'jiiva. I've been working on some ideas with Dual Blades, but it still feels incomplete, so I'll probably mostly stick with my usual Lance tonight; for better or worse, it works.

Beyond that, I'm looking for a ticket from Beef is Never a Mis-Steak, three tickets from Scores of Ores, and four from Muscle Monkey Madness. And then I should probably put on the Astral set and mark off a couple more easy checkboxes while earning those VIP tickets.

Given the performance issues with Iceborne on PC right now, is it safe to pick up the base game and enjoy? Or has the game left that content behind?

Iceborne doesn't even really begin until you've finished the campaign for World, so you are better off just starting with that.

I don't know anyone personally who was impacted by any of the glitches. Not saying they aren't out there. I just don't think they were super common to being with, and probably all fixed by now.

Also, it's a great time to pick up the original. As Dyni said Iceborn is all post game. But, they put in a faster way to learn weapons and it's more forgiving with the defender armor.

Is that in the base game even if I don't have the DLC installed?

Yeah. When I was working on the base game on the PC in December, the defender armor and weapons were available right at the start, and were clearly way above anything else available. I just skipped using them since I wanted to learn to play it normally.

I made it up to High Rank before getting distracted by other shiny objects, but want to get back at some point.

And the Clutch Claw, which is legitimately awesome. If it were nothing but adding the Clutch Claw and Raider Ride, I'd still pay $20 for the expansion.

It might be worth playing through low rank, then when you transition to high rank, buy Iceborne. You'll still get to experience the early-game brutality, and when you get the clutch claw, you can understand the changes that it makes to the flow of the game.

Thanks, all! Once I clear my current playlist, I'll definitely give this a go!

I make bad decisions, and I spent too much time this weekend clearing out photo requests, treasure hunts, and collecting rare endemic life.

Those bounties for grabbing gold crown rare endemic life are cruel and unusual punishment. Let's take something that happens 5% of the time, and make it only count if you catch the 5% of those that are large enough. And let's give you your best chances when it rains, which you can't control, and at night, which you can do nothing but wait for.

Well, it's done. Unless I get a bug to go crown hunting sometime. ...I figure I'll give that a few months.

Do those photo requests give you anything worthwhile? I completely forgot they were even a thing until I read this.

I am going to do my best to make it tonight, but it looks like I might only be able to squeeze in an hour. Mondays have been busy for me lately.

On another note, I finally hooked up PS4 remote play on my PC, so I should be able to get the gathering needed for the Astral set done while on one of my boring phone meetings this week

It depends on your definition of worthwhile, but not really. First Wyverian prints, armor spheres, and decorations for your room. The rewards for the most recent ones, added during the fests, are to allow you to save more observation photos. Yaaay

I'm down for however much we want to play tonight! The Grand Appreciation Fest is still going on; I've picked up everything I need to, but I'm good with doing more. I can always use more Safi'jiiva runs, I have one MR50 optional quest to do, and I still have tons to tackle in the Guiding Lands, especially tempered monsters.

Okay, I'm not really done with lance, but I built out a Safi'jiiva light bowgun set this week, and I am livin' the sticky life. I miss the stand-and-take-it near-invincibility, but stunlocking Elder Dragons is tremendously satisfying.

Gotcha. Yeah, probably not something I'll bother with then. I have way too many armor spheres and don't care about room decorations.

I'm planning to be on at 8:30, so I'll look for you then.

Hadn't been playing for a bit, but I've been hitting a wall with Barioth in Iceborne. Dang bastich takes tamage like nothing and I keep running out of time. I break every part of it that I can (tail, foreclaws, the works) and it still comes down to the last 5 minutes in its "nest". Jayzuz, I can't seem to get this ornery sumb... Anyways, will try again tomorrow. Guess I just needed to vent after three attempts and two different loadouts.

I'm going to try shocking conclusion again tonight, if anyone wants to join in on PS4.

Re: Barioth if you need a hand and are on PSN lemme know! The Kushula Doara set helped me through that.

Barioth was one of the biggest gear checks during the Iceborne campaign. Have you worked on upgrading your weapon and armor yet? If not, do that before tackling that fight if possible.

Also, breaking everything you can is probably slowing you down. You get bonus materials for doing so, but it doesn't improve your kill time. You will kill Barioth more quickly if you focus on a weak, easily accessible body part. The head and wings are probably your safest bets. Just hit what you can, and tenderize when he flinches. His head should be weak to everything, and focusing the wings should allow you to trip him several times.

Other standard advice applies, like using demon drug, might seeds, traps, and flinching it into the wall whenever it isn't enraged. What weapon are you using? I'm always happy to hop on to help if needed.

Did viper tobi for the first time last night and got so frustrated. He kept poisoning me and it does so much damage you have to immediately remove it. This caused me to miss several damage opportunities when he was inactive due to sheathing and drawing animations. I may have to go back to GS for a bit to force myself off the button mashing habit and take a slower, considered stride to fights.

I find that in Iceborne, I mainly dedicate my charm slot to countering each monster's bullsh*t. Viper Tobi means slotting the Poison Resistance charm in so I can ignore that in its entirety. Rath earns the fire res charm to get immunity to burning. A couple later Iceborne monsters earn the blast resistance charm or the blight resistance charm. Not having to remove a status effect every 10 seconds does more for your damage than having a little more raw/elemental attack.

I have 3 or 4 base builds for each weapon/element I use and I can swap out the charm on a per monster basis. It's definitely not optimal, but it's easier than having a custom loadout for each monster/weapon type.

I almost mentioned that as the other early wall in the Iceborne campaign Viper Tobi is no joke the first time you fight him. Again, weapon and armor upgrades will make a huge difference here. If you're still using high rank gear, even the most basic master rank gear will likely be a sizable upgrade for you, particularly the armor. IIRC, I gained close to 200 armor going from high rank to one of the basic master rank armor sets. You may need to give up a few damage skills to do so, but it's worth it. I believe I used several pieces of Banbaro armor for most of the campaign.

Also, definitely make sure you're crafting herbal medicine to deal with poison instead of relying on antidotes.

That's a good idea.

I agree, using the Charm slot as a problem-solver is a good idea. I usually do it with decorations, but when I forget, you can't change them in the field.

With the enhanced mantles for Iceborne, I ended up usually running a Glider mantle and Immunity mantle. Immunity is good for just having a free 'get out of bullsh*t free' card in your arsenal. I need to get in the habit of preparing based on the monster anymore, but I...don't.

I also agree that some of the early Iceborne battles are tedious, when you're trying to transition from high rank. Beotodus wasn't overly difficult, but I remember chasing him here, and there, and over there, and there, and ugh. I'll echo in that I'm happy to help anytime, as long as we're talking PSN. BeriAlpha here and there.

Speaking of collaborative offensive research, it's Monster Hunter Monday again for the PS4 crew! This is the last few days of the Grand Appreciation Fest, but I think we've mostly ground what we want to grind. It feels like it's been running for a month. So, I'm totally open to ideas about what to tackle, or else just run around the Guiding Lands for a while!
