I'm sure that nearly 60% of the greatest albums of all time falling in the prime listening age of Boomers had no affect on the rankings at all.

I doubt you are wrong, but I think there's a bit of hindsight and psuedo-recency bias as well. We don't know the greatest albums until more time has passed and the earlier decades that industry wasn't setup the same.

I'm sure things will shift too. Its 2020 now and I am sure there will be more albums from that decade on the list than were available in 2012.

This may be too specific - but anyone know a good source if I wanted to do an artist commissioned hand drawn card? I know the general gist is I look for an artist which I like the portfolio style, but where is a good place to do so?

What expense/scale are you thinking?

I hired a friend to design a single mascot like character, and that was $300 as an example, which seemed fair if you think of the work involved on an hourly scale. But it can vary so far in either direction depending on the details, right?

I stumbled on https://www.behance.net/ when looking for minimalist movie posters, of all things. It looks like they have an area you can hire folks. And there's always DeviantArt: https://www.deviantart.com/

I’m one of Pix’s happy customers. Great talent.

I work for a little textbook company. For awhile now, someone in Taiwan has been hosting a PDF of one of our textbooks on their personal but public FTP server, and it's the third hit in Google's search results when students google the book. We have not figured out any way to get it taken down or removed from Google's search results. Anyone have any ideas on how to get it taken down, overload the server, or just anything? Just kinda curious if anyone on here has any ideas. We gave up on it awhile ago. We try and make our textbooks as cheap as we possibly can, but I think that PDF really killed our sales last year. Free is a lot cheaper than the $20 eBook we have available.

We have been successful at getting things taken down that are hosted within the US, but since it's hosted in a foreign country that has foiled us.

that sucks, $20 is a great deal for a textbook. is there any way to flag to Google that it's a DMCA violation and therefore should not be indexed? This link might be helpful

Typically, that's the kind of thing we would do with DMCA violations. I'll double check that link, though, and see if there is something we missed! Thanks! Any more suggestions are welcome!

You might not be able to get it taken down, but you can ask Google to remove it from the search results like Mao mentioned.

Is there a way to unlink an Amazon account and a Goodreads account from the Amazon side?

Is there a service (Justwatch or something similar) where I can keep a watch list of movies—including ones that are still in theaters or not yet released—and be notified when one hits one of the handful of streaming services I subscribe to?

For example, I'd like to add Portrait of a Lady on Fire, which currently has a limited theatrical run in the US, and get an alert whenever it hits any of three or four streaming services.

I highly recommend www.reelgood.com. It tracks movies and TV.

Reelgood is good, but it doesn't have notifications that ClockworkHouse is asking for. I've tried a ton of these apps, and while some have notifications for tv shows, none of them have notifications for movies on demand - especially by service.

The best I could suggest is JustWatch. You can create a watch list of movies, and then filter that list by service and then also sort it. So, for instance, you could set the list to show only Netflix and HBO Go, and then sort it by release date and scan the list occasionally to see what's available on those services.

Notifications for movies would be a killer feature.

Have you tried reelgood recently? I think it actually does do what he wants. The below statement is in one of their blurbs.

"Add any movie to your Want-To-See list on Reelgood and we'll send you an alert when it's added to a streaming service you have."

Thanks for the recommendations!

My apologies.

Is there a good android digital audio player? Android because then I could use media monkey to create playlists on the pc and copy them over to the device. Or I might be able to sync it like android phone. Most of the players I have seen don't have a way to create playlist. They just a few dumb preset playlists. They can't do something like Only play non christmas songs that haven't been played in the last month. I know itunes can do this but don't want a touch.

I also want something with sd card slot and that can play flac format.

jetAudio+ has been really great for me.

Thanks, I was looking for a physical player though. I think I found all my options.

Is there a way in Windows 10 to remove a default app setting? I want to have it ask me which browser I want to use every time I open a hyperlink, and it looks like I can only change the default browser, but can't leave it blank.

Do we feel like thinking happens in our head because that's where our brain is or because that's where our eyes/ears/mouth are?

Chairman_Mao wrote:

Historically, we used to think it occurred in the heart.

We think in our heads because that's literally where neural activity occurs. That said, we probably base our spatial perception (and our *perception* of thought) there because of our eyes. We are overwhelmingly visual creatures.

My gut reaction is to say that we think from our heads, but wether that’s just cultural influence or my personal perception Is hard to say. Robear brings up a good point about the eyes. I’ve heard the eyes described as extensions of our brain that protrude through the front of our face. Apparently that’s how closely the eyes and brain are physically connected.

yeah that's the way I'm leaning.

"gut reaction" is an interesting choice of words because we do have neurons in our gi tract but I've never felt like I have thoughts emanating from there.
