WoW: Battle for Azeroth (8.3)

Something like the new leveling system would not have been in 8.3.5. It will be in 9.0. Which is not necessarily the expansion launch.

When they did the first stat squish for Warlords of Draenor they put out 6.0 and then let us hammer on a rebalanced Siege of Orgrimar raid for several weeks before the actual expansion was released. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we had a month or more of 9.0 with the level squish and maybe the new starting zone before Shadowlands hits. That may be what they have planned instead of 8.3.5.

This was going to be my guess as well. 8.3 is also BEEFY, it took me two days the get through the intro questlines and open up the main mechanic of the patch, and based on my experience getting pile driven on my first horrific vision working up to being able to complete long runs of them will be time consuming (in a fun way) and will eat up a lot of the time up to the 9.0 release

Sounds a little like the Withered Army Training scenario in Legion, except you can group for it if you choose and the gating is based solely on how much currency (Coalescing Visions?) you collect and not whenever a daily pops up, right?

Withered Army Training wasn't designed to get all the way through on the first try, either.

Oh i had forgotten about withered army training. Yea it is very similar. I'm sure the first one is designed to be a pile drive. Immediately after you lose that first one is when you get the titan research that gives you a 3/run method of healing sanity damage

From what I could tell there was no goal in the first vision in the Vale, aside from the secondary quest to kill 6 eyeballs. I did manage to beat Thrall in the first Orgrimar trip, but I didn't attempt any side objectives and I still barely made it.

Yeah, there are two "Vision" levels you do.

One is in whichever zone N'zoth is invading. That's the "Lesser" visions that have a WQ outside of them that you complete inside (always pick that up first)… then you just burn stuff as much as possible to get more Coalescing Visions and Corrupted Mementos until you die/run out of sanity.

The other are the "Greater" visions which are Org and Stormwind. Those you use the CVs to get the keys. They are the ones that are kind of compared to Withered Army Training. For the first (few) run(s), you're relatively weak and your main goal is just to push to Thrall/Alleria as quick as possible and kill them each time until you get your cloak to Rank 5. After that, that's where you start moving into other areas primarily. Me and my friend who've basically been doing everything together for this patch managed to get enough CVs last night to do our 5th run for the Rank 5 upgrade... so probably either this weekend or maybe Monday... if not then, then definitely Tuesday. Should be fun, as I think we're going to be a little more bold and try to get multiple sections done.

wow you are burning through it!. I'm hoping i'll have more time to play over the long weekend and get in a few more horrific visions. i have a 'free' ticket in, plus 10k to get a third run in also.

what is the projected amount of CVs that dailies give out? can you do both invasion quests per day or just one?

Daily quests are usually 50 CVs each, so generating 400 in total if you do all four for each invasion zone.

The "fill the bar" invasion quest for each invasion is a one time per invasion thing. The lesser invasions (so in this case, the Athmet one in Uldum) resets every 3.5 days (so it'll change on Friday at 7PM PST/10PM EST)… the greater invasion, the N'zoth invasion, resets weekly. The daily quests and rares all reset daily though.

The N'zoth invasion does have a 5th daily quest though for a "Lesser Vision" which resets daily as well. That generates 2000 CV the first time you do it in a weekly reset, each subsequent day's gives you 1000 until the weekly reset. So doing everything but the little daily quests gives you 3 a week automatically, doing the daily quests will get you an extra Vessel probably every 2.5 weeks... but you do get a decent amount of them just doing things too. The lesser visions' mobs can all drop them too, the caches that require keys in the invasion zones also give you like 500, but you need to collect artifact fragments from mobs, make the key, then find that cache... so far I've only gotten 2 of those done. Doesn't hurt that my friend I'm running with is basically... well... she's like a puppy when you throw like 8 tennis balls at once, every time she shifts back to bird form, who knows what direction she'll go but she will find everything, even as she says she just wants to focus and get the quests done. XD So yeah, but, we're apparently also the most leveled of our guild now as one of our warriors bugged out during the Greater vision, got stuck in combat, and couldn't use his light orb to restore sanity as he was trying to do a medium difficulty area early (whereas, we just stuck to killing Thrall because that's where the cloak upgrade was).

That entire post raised my Insanity level to whatever the max level is these days.

I love WoW and play it obsessively, but I'll be damned if I can keep straight the names of characters, raid bosses and all the new currencies that come out with every patch and how the hell to get them. (Am I still supposed to get the dubloons from Islands? Am I the only one who doesn't run them?) Hell, I can't tell you the name of most spells beside Judgment and Penance. The attacks and heals I use are R and E and Shift-1 and F2 - whatever the keybinds are.

Maybe I'm just old and cranky. Maybe you should just get off my lawn but Deathwing destoyed the Park in Stormwind so I don't have a lawn. Dammit.

PS: That was actually a very helpful post, Demo. My god it's complicated tho. I think my best play is just to kill things like I normally do and keep an eye out for yellow and blue exclamation points.

Basically that, do whatever quests are in those two zones, you'll get all the currency you can doing so. The ways to maximize are basically just "kill all the things" while doing those tasks.

Also, yes, Doubloons come from the Island Expeditions. Lots of people don't do them, but they are generally still one of the best sources of Artifact Power to level up your neck... and frankly, I find them fun. I get that it's REQUIRED CONTENT for raiders and that makes it lame... but the actual experience of doing them is amusing to me, but that may be doing it with the friend I mentioned above who goes nuts and just "SQUIRREL!"s from rare to rare and eventually comes back to me as a tank with like 5 rares and all their associated mobs in tow, waits until things look manageable for me and a DPS, then wanders off again. XD

Plus, I've been stupidly lucky with them. With the mount I got from the salvage crate, I'm at 5 of the 8 current mounts collectable from them... and even made some decent gold from them thanks to getting a few different rare/highly desirable xmog items from them that have netted me about 300,000 gold in total.

Druids are always gonna druid. i used to play with a friend and her druid was always disappearing to go hit an herb node.

I tried that with the Pandaria cloak. Sadly it seems to only give you the base model, not the special effect that used to show up every now and then. I guess that was tied to its proc.

Speaking of transmogs and the new patch, my wife has been running around with a giant orange eyeball between her boobs and she couldn't be happier with the look. I don't know what's more disturbing, her enthusiasm or the fact that I'm not as disturbed by it as I should be.

You should suggest that she try to recreate the look on her wow character!

What's irritating is I had it drop on my warrior and vendored it... and now it would be transmoggable as Warriors can still use bows. -_-;;

Have you checked for it? If you have the Feat of Strength from getting it the game knows you had it and they might have unlocked it in the transmog system.

hmm I have not. I just assumed since it's not usable for warlock it wouldn't tag the transmog (cause thats how mogs work for normal items)

Oh it almost certainly isn't going to show up for a Warlock. But if you have a random Hunter alt or something you might be able to use it there...

My main is a hunter, which is where my annoyance comes from. I've probably done the dungeon a dozen times on my hunter, and the first time i run it on my recently 120 warlock alt going to cloth transmogs (i've never really played a cloth class until this lock) bam, orange bow first time in.

Transmogs are account wide, you don't have to pick it up on the same character who's going to use it.

Yes i know, but you cannot 'register' an appearence unless the chracter actually holding the item can use it. My warlock, for example, cannot tag appearances on plate, mail, or leather gear even if the gear is BOP.

Which is also why I was sad I vendored it from my Warrior... a relic of their Vanilla through... Wrath days? Anyway, a relic of their old systems is that ranged weapons (except Wands) are still "usable" so they tag transmogs. It's why my warrior is my main xmog collector for both plate and weapons because it can pretty much get all of them but wands, and I never use wands.

Warcraft 3 is REALLY making me want to play again. Trying to hold out til the new expansion drops.

NathanialG wrote:

I'd recommend waiting, there's a lot of catch-up mechanics for the current patch... but there's also a lot of catch-up work to DO as well that has very little/no catch-up mechanics in place for many classes. (Still grinding conquest and 2v2s to get my best minor essence as a Havoc Demon Hunter.)

I'm stuck and maybe someone here can tell me what to do. I have a quest called "Stepping Through the Darkness", to get the next upgrade for my cloak. I understand that I need to do one of the side areas in the corrupted vision of Org or SW to get it. What I can't figure out is how to get through the barriers to the side zones. I can't find anything relevant on the usual help sites. Has anyone done this and know what you need to do?

You click on the barrier. If you have already clicked through the first barrier and are at a blue wall at the south end of Orgrimmar, then you need to take the north path instead.

Oh @#$%, it never even occurred to me that might be an option. Why would they put up a barrier that doesn't stop you? Thanks!

Yeah, I super confused on that one too until I clicked on a barrier in a fit of frustration and it magically dropped.

Poor design.

The idea probably was to make it clear that you are moving into an area where the insanity drain is higher, potentially killing you. But yeah, kinda awkward.
I got stuck more on the blue wall after that, because the quest marker was right behind that wall Guess that is what happens when you are conditioned to follow quest markers in games over the years, instead of following the NPC right in front of you...

If that’s the same quest marker I just had, it stayed there even after I killed the thing and I wasted time trying to find the item it said to retrieve. I did manage to finish the vision though, and the quest item was in the reward chest at the end. So all is well, but the UI gave me a bit of a panic.
