LEGO Nostalgia

I have an unboxed rover tucked away somewhere. For some reason I never got to it, and life etc.

Also, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel for my Saturn V. The only problem that remains is a great display place.

Something to keep in mind, all the sets before this season are 8 studs wide and were about $15 per car. They have now gone to a 10 stud wide template which has increased the cost to $20 but allows for more detail and a side by side minifig seating rather than center seat.

I think you meant 6 wide going to 8?
I just checked my Porsche 911 and the baseplate is only 6 studs wide.

I kept looking at the Mini cooper set in the store all last year. The Rally version in particular was what drew me in. But $50 for two cars was a bit high. Kept hoping it would come down. The double Porsche set was only $30.

You are right, I don't know why I thought it went 8 to 10, yeah, 6 to 8 studs wide. I can't disagree that it's a bit on the expensive side, but that Mini is really well done. And the big off-road vehicle is quite nice too. I got mine with birthday money, so I guess I didn't feel it really.

If you are a UCS Star Wars fan check this link out on the Lego Ideas site.

Nebulon B Escort Frigate all the way.

The Frigate would be cooler, but I've developed a recent affinity for the TIE Bomber. It's now my emblem of a trifling-ass "super fan" not knowing what or who he's trifling with. I was at a Christmas party, and this guy started going on about TLJ breaking canon and the long tradition of technical consistency and scientific grounding that is Star Wars with the bombers. "But, dawg, those were in the OT."

"Oh, yeah, sure," he backpedaled, "the but the Y-Wing proton torpedoes had magnets..."

"Nah, dawg, TIE Bombers were dropping bombs in Empire."

He conceded he didn't remember them at all, and instantly shut down.

Of those, I would prefer the Bomber, but I don't see anything I would run out to buy.

At least there is the old UCS Bomber (which I don't have). I just love capital ships hehe

I love the Republic Gunships!

Republic Gunship looks like a flying scrotum.

wait yours doesn't fly?

Red Bull gives you wings!

I'd get any of those, but I'm also partial to the bomber.

That LEGO Masters show starts tonight (Feb 05) at 9:00 PM eastern on fox.

My son got a Batman set for his birthday. We opened it up to build it, and there was a piece missing. Ok, fine, but I do an inventory and it looks like the an entire bag of the smallest elements got missed when the box was assembled. Not a big deal, I think, customer service has a missing brick service, I can do that.

So after going to the website, I enter the set number, and all the elements from the set are there, just add to cart. Great! Except a bunch aren’t there, I add the part number, it comes up, great. Except for a few that don’t show up at all, even when I use the part number the instructions had. And one has a different part number from the instructions to the website. Finally get it all sorted out, order sent.

Get an auto-response back soon after, it didn’t pass the validation process. Probably because I just tried to order 60-70 brick elements, which I would have flagged as suspicious as well. So I sent an email with an explanation and a list of all the parts as well to see what they would do.

Got an auto reply on Monday saying that they had received my email and it was basically in someone’s inbox to be reviewed. Today I got an email saying that they would contact me if any further information was required, otherwise I would get shipping confirmation in a few days when my order was fulfilled. So we will see what they do.

One of the bricks was a special element of water pieces that was showing out of stock when I tried to use the missing brick. So I wonder if they were able to find one or opened the set that we got to replace it or just send us the whole set or none of the above.

Do you live near a Lego store? If so, just go in and ask. They have been super helpful in the past.

In the future, you can call their customer support and tell them what was missing (for ex, a small bag in Bag #2) and they will typically send you the parts from that bag for free.

Lego Masters is great fun.

How much do they play up the reality TV drama side? From the trailers it looked like competitive Lego, which to mean is kind of against the whole idea of Lego being fun and cooperative, not competitive.

I'm hoping it is like Making It. It's a competition but super supportive.

It was definitely supportive and accepting.

I watched Lego Masters tonight on Hulu and it overall had a supportive and accepting vibe, but... also there were like 4 teams I really didn't care for because of the lack of teamwork and ability to work together. I've never watched any other competitive reality shows before, so I don't know if this is typical. For example, the guy and girl who had never really built together before spent 13 hours on their build but never made a ride that moved (the main thing needed in the build for this episode) so in the last 2 hours he laid responsibility on her make the bumper cars move and said basically said 'I can't help you. Figure it out yourself.' I got pretty ticked at that. Maybe the teams will get better (or get sent home) and I'll be less frustrated in future episodes. Or maybe I'm just in a judgmental mood tonight.

Yeah, it's typical of these shows. What you're seeing is the producers selecting for both interest and drama. The weaker teams provide the initial dose of the latter. That's the meta.

I will say that they worked very hard to get teams that are interesting along with potential for self-destruction, or blooming and growth. Remember they edit the narratives to pull out stories, across episodes. So it's pretty artificial in those areas.

The builds, though, were for the most part very creative.

I want the ISS, but it looks like a display nightmare.

That said, I am getting the ISS and I will deal with the consequences.
(Free patch!)

A pretty good read - an interview with Jamie and Amy the host of Lego Masters

https://brickset.com/article/48750/m...

I liked the first episode.

Oh this image shows that a cool Medieval building and the Winnie the Pooh Idea sets got approved.

I got my package from Lego with all the replacement pieces. It came quicker than I thought it would. They also threw in a couple of Ninjago minifig keychains, which was a nice surprise.

All in all it’s rather impressive that over the years and numerous sets I’ve bought I’ve never had a missing piece before. It must happen often enough for them to have this system in place, but it’s also very good customer service.

Sooner or later, we all get that pleasant surprise, Strewth.

I'm seeing that Lego is going to release some Lego brand set lighting kits to test the market.

I loves me some Pooh, but I don't think even Eeyore wants to be in that set.
