GWJ's Racing Dorks

Awesome, thanks for the tips!

A couple Racing Dorks are doing a 24 hour event. They have about 9 hours left.

That quite an event to complete, nice job!

Are the race room nights still going?

Yes! September 29 at 9pm Eastern is the next one. Road America is the circuit and we're in the GT3 cars.

Do we need to add another name to the spreadsheet?

Someone with seniority needs to invite Zaroc to the Slack.

Is slack what the kids these days use for ventrillo?

Slack is what we use to organize and do all sorts of race talk. Discord has replaced Twitch, which replaced Curse, which replaced Vent.

I’ll get it then. Thanks. Looking forward to it.

Just got a wheel. What game are you all using for racing?

Hi cheesy! congrats!

We are using RaceRoom Racing Experience this season, and likely next season as well.

Our next race is Sunday at Mid Ohio in GT3 cars if you want to try to make it.

Mid-Ohio: Chicane, to be precise (there's a few different layouts of that circuit in RRRE).

Unrelated to Dorks, but if you're rocking the PC Games Pass, Dirt Rally 2.0 is on there and is super-happy-wheel-fun-times.

Hi guys, I've been a very-infrequent lurker on the GWJ forums, I've been listening to conference call for a year or two, at first mainly cause Amanda is my sister-in-law, but it's really grown on me.

Anyways, I got a g29 almost a year ago, and really got into iracing just in time for season 4. I'm more of a second-from-the-bottom-split type of guy. Assuming your weekly raceroom session is still going, okay if I join you tomorrow 11/17?

Hey, welcome apaksl! There is a casual testing night happening 11/17 at 9PM ET in RaceRoom. We are testing cars and settings for Season 6.

We have a slack group, I'll DM you with more info.

Welcome! Just for the record, we're a lot less regular than weekly. More like one race every 3-6 weeks.

We schedule races using a Doodle and pick whichever date has the most names against it. Most recently that's ended up being Sunday nights.

We just had the final race of this season last week, and will shortly be picking cars and tracks for next season, which probably won't start in earnest until the new year.

It's a very relaxed group, with a fairly broad skill distribution.

As Gamerparent mentions, we just finished season 5 last week, so now we're into the off-season phase of picking the type of car we'll use in season six and then deciding on which tracks we'll run.

During this past couple months Raceroom patched in the option to give "competition ballast" to certain drivers, so we're hoping that we can use this to keep the field nice and tight next season.

Also we have a good range of speeds in our field, so I bet second-from-bottom-split drivers can still find someone to race and we'd love to have you come check it out!

Sweet does this mean I'm not the new blood anymore? !!!

What have you been running in iRacing? I mainly run dirt oval winged sprints, but just started road circuits with the rookie Mazda class, mostly since the racing dorks run road racing and I'm clueless about it so far.

MX5's fun, but it's too easy to drive those things like bumper cars. It's hard to avoid a few 4x's when you have a group of 3 guys all fighting for position. I'm really into the skippy right now. I'm starting to click with it, I've done 5 or 6 races at catalunya this week and I'm having a lot of fun there.

I'm only running MX5 because it appeared to be the only option for rookie class, I suppose I could be wrong? Skippy's look fun but I think I need to get to class D first.

Get excited Dorks that visit this thread but don't race with us. Season 6 is getting close. We have our tracks picked.

Our first event of the new season was tonight and the Touring Cars really do promote a lot of close racing.

We didn't even put the competition ballast in the cars yet.

I reckon that's the best racing I've seen out of this gang in 4 seasons.

Hi all, I'm looking into joining some of your racing!!

I've been racing on iracing for the past few seasons, primarily skippy, however having heard your shout out on the GWJ Con call, I thought I'd give this a try...

Where can I find info on what you are currently planning (vehicles, tracks etc) and where you are in your current season? Do you guys use a lot of paid content in RRRE?

I'll need to do some staying up late or getting up early to join, but those are the sacrifices we all have to make

We are currently running WTCR 18/19 cars, with 7 race weekends left. Its all paid content, but at least you won't have to pay a monthly fee Next race is on May 17th at 9pm eastern at Salzburgring. PM me your e-mail and I'll send you an invite to our Slack channel.

Raceroom lets you try out the cars before buying them, and I'm pretty sure there are still liveries/numbers left in almost every car.

What conference call did we get a shout out on?

Race schedule is roughly one event every 4-6 weeks. We set each date by voting on a Doodle and whichever date has the most people available gets selected.

Episode 703.

There's a new bit highlighting a different GWJ sub-community of folk who play together at the end of the pod, and we were the first!

Remember that time Amanda popped into the Discord mid-race? That was research.
