LOTRO: Free-to-Play

I've gotten up to level 43 on my Warden on Arnor. I have found the Legendary Server to be awesome. There are lots of players running around and grouping up. My kin There and Back Again is very active. After playing there I find my old server Brandywine (level 108) lonely. I'm looking at this as my final run through for LOTRO. It is worth your time if you want to play the game again.

Anyone playing past Mordor who can advise on a more enjoyable way to level past 113? Mordor feels like grinding to me, with new and different resource collection, but grinding nonetheless.

Having completed the plot of the books, I find Mordor really disengaging. At least for me.

I've tried the Dale Lands and Iron Hills, but for the first time in quite a while, I'm too low level to survive there. I've never done a lot of skirmishing, and no raiding; I think I'd slow down everyone else so badly as to ruin everyone's fun.

So where should I try to just slog it out? Mordor? Northern Mirkwood? Erebor?

So I just resigned up. Played some STO and SWG lately, and the entire time I played them I was like, “I’d rather be playing LOTRO.”

It’s been a while for me and I’m thinking of re-installing but every time I reinstall LOTRO I max all Shire quests and then just stop playing.

That's because the Shire is the best part of the game.

I don't understand how we haven't had some sort of open world Shire game with mechanics similar to a Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons game.

Oh, I would be so down for that!

Maybe Amazon's new LOTR game will have that?

How often do TV shows get game-tie-ins these days?

RIP Defiance. Oh wait it's still a thing. RIP Defiance the show.

So I was questing around Angmar for a spell until I got tired, so tired of all the god damned brown. I needed a change of pace.

So I finished up some old quests around Evendim and, hilariously, Bree, and then noticed I was in the midst of an epic quest, which I forgot was a thing. This put me in Rivendell.

I forgot how f*cking pretty Rivendell is.

So I'm gonna do some epic quests before moving onto the Misty Mountains. So fun!

So I was told a Lore Master is super fun to play, and low key casual, so I rolled one on Landroval and holy crap they were right. Soooo fun. Maybe more fun than the Hunter.

Yeah, I've gotten one to lvl 86 (she's in the top part of Rohan at the mo), and never had a problem going through solo, including Moria.

What makes the Lore Master fun?

Bear! They take all the heat while you plink away at the target from afar.

LOTRO wisely adjusted the game to allow different builds for solo and group play, and I think every class can now succeed on their own. I've played a minstrel and champion past level 90 and enjoyed both of them, both solo and in fellowships. I have a friend with a 91 lore master who says it started getting difficult to solo in the upper levels, due to the pets not surviving long enough. He's not a hard-core player so there may be some equipment, skills or attributes that would help.

Anyone on Landroval part of a kin that they really enjoy? I'm in Sons of Numenor and its essentially dead. Nice guy is the founder/leader, but otherwise its quite vacant.
I was looking for GWJ type folks: some maturity and sense of humor, not afraid to say they like the game.

I'm on Landroval but neither I nor anyone in our kinship plays regularly right now. We even had our kin house foreclosed for non-payment. At least they mailed us our stuff!

If we play it's just three of us in a skirmish or instance after planning IRL. I'll let you know if we get the bug again. My two characters are Brerod, 105 Minstrel, and Jeffolo, 90 Champion. Feel free to friend them.

If you're into music at all, the Lonely Mountain Band have ever been a solid bunch and normally have people around; Benjamin likely has a good word to say for them. To see them at their best, pop along to an Ales and Tales session on a Monday evening, or at midnight EST outside the Pony in Bree on any Saturday for their darker side.

I'm on Landroval and play semi-regularly. The kin I'm in is only a few people who pop in casually, but they're nice folks. Feel free to add "Tuba" or "Tubad" to your friends list, I'm happy to chat or help out with a quest sometime.

I should add that this weekend is the annual delight that is Winterstock, the time of year when Landroval musicians choose to stand on the frozen lake outside Thorins Gate and freeze their toes off for your pleasure. Details of the various bands can be found here. Depending when you read this post, you can likely catch it live on twitch via Druidsfire and the lotrostream team here.

If you are playing on one of the Legendary servers, heads up Rohan drops this week sometime. I have a 64 Warden running on Arnor and I'm just a little too low to head there yet. But, I have run it on another server and I think the expansion got a bad rap. I found the zones and mounted combat pretty fun!

Nice!

For LOTRO free-to-play players or those who've let their subscriptions lapse, there is a coupon that makes most quest packs free to own. There is also a huge sale on expansion packs.

LOTROFREEQUESTS

I'm definitely jumping on that.

Hey guys, any chance that promotion re-ignited some love that would result in a European kin bustling with activity and halfling pies?

In case anyone who might be interested but didn't hear, LOTRO is celebrating the wedding of Aragorn and Arwen. All are invited. Like almost everything else these devs do that's story-related, its really well done.

The servers are turning into a complete farce at the moment. Constant dropouts, freezes, rubber-banding, disconnects from chat server. Probably doesn't help that SSG are unresponsive at best, and their updating seems to consist of minor tweaks while failing to solve the key issues.

Hasn't this been in maintenance mode for around 5 years or so?
