Hidden Gems of Amazon Prime instant videos

I don’t think it’s due anytime soon. Probably summer at the earliest.

Even that thumbnail for The Boys season 2 is incredible. I’m going to try resist watching it.

Season 3 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is great. And, damn, it looks like an expensive show to film. The laughs are still there and cast is all back, and they all have their moments to shine. I'm very impressed with the places this show takes us. Tits up!

I'm about to start it myself. Definitely one of my three favorite shows currently!

If there is a season 4 I’m going to miss Brian Tarantina’s character. Jackie is sort of a bit part, but it’s a really well done bit part

If you have Prime and you haven’t watched The Feed yet, get on it! It’s a near future techno thriller intertwingled with a dysfunctional family drama. Tense, creepy, and rewarding. I loved the acting, the characters, and the production values are top notch.

The Feed is to sci fi what Flanagan’s Hill House (Netflix) is to horror, if that makes any sense.

Can't find it. Doesn't seem to be available in my region.

Yeah the distribution rights are weird. Wikipedia says “The Feed will stream on Amazon Prime Video in the United States, Canada and Latin America, and across Liberty Global’s international platforms, including Virgin Media in the UK. All3Media International will distribute The Feed elsewhere worldwide, beyond the Amazon and Liberty Global platforms.”

I watched about half of the first episode of The Feed and kinda turned it off as 'bland british sci fi'. Change my mind, I guess?

I can dig campy british sci fi (Red Dwarf, Torchwood)
I can dig serious british sci fi (Humans, Misfits)

Does it 'get good'? I'm getting a 'tryhard competence-porn' vibe from the show so far. As in 'everyone is a dunce except for our awesome skateboarding white-bread royal-rejecting hero who's going to save us all'

Well, you did pretty much nail the lead character, although he has some interesting facets to his character that develop later on. Also, the amazingly culturally varied cast starts to contribute a lot more as the show progresses. Overall the series is a little bit of a slow burn. The first couple of episodes are mostly setup, then things start to get REALLY weird. At about the halfway point in the series, it gets very creepy and gradually accelerates until the end. There are definitely some cliffhangers that had me going "Whaaaaat?" In fact I found myself talking to my screen at some points, and I almost never do that.

One thing I particularly enjoyed about the series is that the women in the cast are very competent. Everybody makes their share of innocent mistakes that tend to make things worse, but the ladies straighten that sh*t out. One minor character is an exception, which if you watch the series you'll know who I mean. She rather tragically gets in over her head, but it's not a typical damseling. More kind of the nature of her character and the group she hangs with.

I think The Feed compares favorably to Humans, but Humans hit the ground running. Also The Feed is self-contained in ten episodes.

Ok cool it does sounds like it's worth giving it another try. I do have some time to kill while traveling this week.

It has gotten better. I'm up to the fourth episode and quite enjoying it.

I started and finished The Boys on Saturday. I don't think I have ever binged an entire season in a day. Then I come here to tell everyone to give it a shot and I see a trailer for season 2. If there was one thing I didn't like about the first season it was the cliffhanger ending. Good to know I don't have to wait too long.

I enjoyed The Boys sooooo much. I can't wait for season 2!

It took me a while to get into The Feed. But then the second half started to lose me again. I found it kind of confusing and disjointed.

Overall it was an interesting take on the awfulness of social media and the horrible people who run them.

Spoiler:

I Found it Kind of Confusing and Disjointed , name of your sex tape.

The Aeronauts is predictable and pedestrian, but enjoyable. Fantastic high-altitude photography, and some great acrophobia-activating stunts.

Finished the lastest Mrs. Maisel.

Spoiler:

That turned darker at the end than I expected...

Have any of y'all tried signing up for a Prime channel in another country?

The UK has Arrow Films, which seems like Criterion with an even more cult film focus and higher quality transfers. Would definitely like to give the channel a go, but it requires a UK credit card and address. Not sure how I'd swing that, being a USA resident. Maybe a prepaid card or something?

Didn't find a service online that offers something similar to how if you live in Australia you can pay a company to forward you packages from a USA address.

Found out about them because they did a brand new transfer of John Carpenter's "The Thing", which, yes please.

The Souvenir is not a film with broad, mainstream appeal. It's a slow, deliberate film content to observe the contours of a young woman's dysfunctional relationship with a somewhat older man. However, it is beautifully filmed and acted with a wonderfully nuanced lead performance from Honor Swinton Byrne. It reminds me in both style and artistic composition of the works of the masterful Japanese filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu. Lovers of art house cinema will likely find something to appreciate.

So thanks to Prime I'm watching Space: 1999 for the first time ever and HOLY f*ckING sh*t IAN MACSHANE'S IN EPISODE 2!

Edit: Something, something, something, c*cksucker.

That was a bizarrely good series considering the lack of resources, general attention, being a sci-fi show in the early 90's, etc.

I've started watching TREADSTONE. Enjoying it so far.

Let's be clear. The first season was great. The second season was garbage.

Wait is that Bourne universe stuff? Didn't realize that was even out.

Yes. Very promising at the moment. The characters feel like people you want to follow. Lots going on but the action is nicely handled. Lots of Bournesque fisty cuffs.

In the US, Treadstone is not streaming free on Prime. It's on the USA Network.

Ah. Thanks. These variations can trip everyone up.

Probably will be in a few months then, if it's like Mr Robot, another show on the same network

I honestly had no idea there was a second season.
