Speed Runs Catch-All

Mitchell always seemed like a dodgy character in the documentary.

I actually found out the other day that a runner I used to enjoy watching, Goron Guy, was found out to be a cheater.

I wonder if all this news will spark a follow up film or even a one on speed runners, there are enough characters in speed running to make it good.

Speaking of which, I came across this agdq2017 Mirror’s Edge speedrun, which is fairly comical:

That video is quite funny.

There's a GDQ video of the Aladdin game where the couch constantly riffs about how "easy" the game is through out the run (it's definitely not).

SGDQ 2018 starts today (6/24-7/1) - get hype!

HYPE!!!

Speed is bad for you. Please don't take speed and try to run it is bad for your heart.

Just noticed that the finale on Saturday night is a 7 hour run of Final Fantasy VI!

I wish GDQ didn't have such a console-centric, platformer-centric gaming world view.

Personally, I would stick with Twitch channels SpeedGaming channels 1-5, which usually have speed run races and contests being shown.

Zelda Link to the Past Randomizer is probably the most popular, and can be quite fascinating to watch. And just last month, someone figured out a way to combine the Zelda Link to the Past Randomizer and the Super Metroid Randomizer into one rom, with the powerups being mixed between both games (since there is quite a bit of crossover in those two communities).

I find SpeedRunsLive the best tool for watching/knowing about live speedruns. It shows all the games and viewer counts, so it’s easy to get into something and watch some of the more popular runners who are usually going for world records.

It’s usually quieter when GDQ isn’t on though.

Awesome Games Done Quick starts tomorrow!

Summer Games Done Quick is going on! Anyone watching?

It's got me really interested in picking up speedrunning again. This always happens around these events, but I never settle on a single game

Always watching these, great fun.
They make me want NOT to speed run.
Was interesting seeing the Spyro run since I had just finished the game a few hours earlier.

I enjoy watching these greatly. One of them is held near my house, but I haven't been able to see it in person, yet.

I also very much enjoy watching these semi-annual marathons (and I've also started peeking at RPG Limit Break).

Donated last night during the TASBot set which was impressive, but not as weird as some earlier TAS blocks.

Looking forward to the Link to the Past + Super Metroid Combo Randomizer, and Chronotrigger immediately afterward.

Watched some for the first time this year and enjoyed! I think I’ll be a more regular viewer in the future. For some reason I didn’t think it would appeal to me but I was pretty entertained and intrigued. I happened into because I’ve been going into Twitch a lot lately and saw that a run of Fire Emblem Fates Conquest was being done and thought, “Huh? How?” I ended up watching the rest of the afternoon regardless of the game being played and watched a lot the next couple days too. Octopath Traveler was interesting to see as well.

Now you get to enjoy the second phase of each GDQ: watching runs on their YouTube channel for the next two months.

I always like seeing oddball games run more so than the 5000th Mega Man game, and I'm way more of a PC gamer than a console gamer, so the runs that interest me most is always the stuff that gets played at like 4:00 am.

The silver lining of this is that there's no crowd to ruin the viewing experience.

Very true. Watching GDQ does remind me why I won't go to these kinds of things.

Hahaha, I’m reading this after having watched a bunch of runs from the first day on YouTube.

The ol' days:

Wish it wasn't starting during wild card weekend! But I will enjoy it all week.

I know this isn't exactly a speed run, but I suspect the folks that browse this thread might find it amusing.

Ya-hoo!

RPG Limit Break held a Final Fantasy Relay Race earlier this month. That's right, just under 80 hours of Final Fantasy games played back-to-back in non-chronological order, as a three-team relay competition.

Spoiler:

XIII
VIII
IV
II
V
III
13-2
Crystal Chronicles
X
I
XII
XV
IX
Lightning Returns
VII
VI

Sadly, it looks like FF X-2 isn't part of it.
