Ring Fit Adventure Catch All

So I just got this for Christmas and I love it and I'm also in a lot of pain from all the muscles recovering from the workouts! I was surprised effective it as workout and how many incentives they give you for doing it on a daily basis.

Has anyone else got it? How well is it working for you?

Bought it on release, but have only dabbled with it once. I do keep thinking about picking it up for real, but somehow the right mood/situation never comes about when I have time.

Also thought my wife would be more into it....maybe if I lead by example.

I got this for Christmas as well, and was really excited about it from everything I'd heard. I had been doing very well in diet and fitness and then it was November in Vermont and suddenly I couldn't keep up my daily 30-minute walks, and also there was holiday food and...blugh. So! I started it Saturday but it is a somewhat slow start. I spent 30 minutes or so just getting it started and completing the first step of adventure mode. I knew I hadn't seen much but didn't have time to go further. Just a few minutes ago I did the second stage and holy cow I nearly fell down at the end of it. A variety of muscles worked out fairly intensely in ways I'm not used to. I clearly need to tune down the intensity because I expect I should be able to get through at least 2 or 3 stages in a sitting. Anyway, so far so good, I just need to find the difficulty sweet spot and also need to empty my house of holiday treats.

Was excited to give it another try today, but then walked up a flight of stairs and my legs made clear to me they need another 24 hours before I wade back in. I'm a little surprised it wasn't tuned to lean on the easy side for a first full session, but maybe it was and I'm just that big of a wimp.

I think the initial settings are much determined by the questions you answer about how active you are and how hard you want it to be. And those are very loosey goosey subjective questions.

I went back and recalibrated after my first day and it's better attuned to me now.

Ya, which leads into my my biggest gripe with this game. I hate how hand holding it is with all it's questions, reminders, and vague/subjective questions.

I get it, they want to appeal to a wide audience and keep people safe but I wish there was a setting to turn it all off.

I ordered it. Should be delivered Friday. I Regularly lifting weights 2-3 times a week for about 75 mins a session. I’m hoping it will work as a supplement to add aerobic, core, and flexibility training without being too redundant with the strength training. Even though I lift regularly I’m not in great shape. I’m about 50 lbs overweight. I’m hoping mixing things up will help

Got it!

I kinda want to get this. Would be nice to add this to my usual cardio at the gym...

So I was at difficulty level 18 or 20 when I seriously overextended myself in my first real session with the game a few days ago. Last night I had it tuned down to 12 and I think it was a much more productive workout. It was still challenging, but I was able to do more like a 30-minute workout rather than a 7 or 8 minute one, and though I feel a bit of a burn in my quads going up the stairs today, it's just a gentle reminder that I worked out that muscle rather than an 'oh god I overdid it' feeling. I'm definitely appreciating the way this is targeting all different parts of my body, and I'm curious to see how that will adjust as I get new moves (I've only unlocked one extra move so far). The chair pose exercise and the seated leg tuck thing are both particularly challenging for me, but I'm trying to keep in mind that that's a reason I should do them rather than a reason to avoid them.

A couple of gameplay questions:

--When you do the block move, are you supposed to still lose a bit of heart even when you have blocked successfully? It seems like I'm doing the move right, but I lose half a heart every time. I'm guessing it's just that my block prevented more damage than that, but I'm not certain I wouldn't block more fully if I were like pushing harder or getting lower or something.

--How much grinding should I do? How important is it to be at the level of the challenge? After defeating the boss at World 1, I was level 4, and I noted that the first challenge of World 2 was something like level 6 or 7. I decided to go re-run another World 1 challenge to boost my level. Was that a good idea, or should I just plow ahead and if I "lose" a challenge I'll still get XP and still get a valuable workout so it's nothing to worry about and the stats will come?

Do you all think the calorie burn counts are plausible? I was in the game for 30-40 minutes last night, so that probably involved 0.25-0.5 miles running in place, several dozen squats, a few dozen chest presses and shoulder presses, a bunch of ab exercises, etc., and the game told me my session burned like 30 calories. I know it's just an estimate, of course, but that seems pretty low to me.

So far so good. Hoping to get at this 3-4 times a week in addition to the actual gym and walking when I can in cold and slushy Vermont.

I believe you’re supposed to lose hearts no matter what because attacking acts like a timer when you’re supposed to finish a battle and be efficient With your attacks. I’ve always lost hearts.

Yup, the Ab Guard determines how many hearts you'll lose.

May be that you're not squeezing quite hard enough to deflect all of the damage? There seems to be at least two levels of defense - the shield on-screen will get a yellow glow around it when you're squeezing hard enough?

Seems very low to me. I just did stage 1 twice. The first time it was 17 kcal in 2 minutes, the second time it was just over 15 in 93 seconds.

First off, yes, the game's calorie burn counts are a wild guess and should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Secondly, for actually running a mile, you're looking at something like 100 calories burned. Running on the spot will burn less. So your 0.25-5 mile running in place is likely 20-30 calories at best, and more realistically, probably comes in around 10 calories, unless you're sprinting on the spot.

For unweighted squats, multiply your weight by 0.096 and that'll give you a rough per-minute calorie burn.

Bear in mind that the burn-rate will vary dramatically exercise to exercise (e.g. squats vs chair pose), as well as how hard you perform each will add additional variation - particularly for the pressing actions, you can squeeze hard or you can half-ass it, or for the squats - ass-to-grass is more work than a half-rep.

I'm enjoying Ring Fit, and I'm going to continue using it, but I'm not kidding myself that it's remotely a better alternative than a 5 mile run or a crossfit class when it comes down to raw fitness gains.

Did my first training session today (three whole days after buying the game). I kinda liked it. It wasn't too bad. Only did one level though (which took about 3 minutes).

I'm still not sure of my setup. I have an exercise mat, so I used that to fake-job on, but the motions kept moving it backwards, so that wasn't ideal and slowed me down.I might have to come up with something better. And I just remembered that I have a mat for my standing desk that might work better, I'll try that tomorrow. I think the game put me at level 19, we'll see if that is too hard over the next few days.

My Ring Fit is on its way! I used to lift weights off and on for many years, but I just don't feel motivated for that. I'm better at sticking with cardio. So I thought Ring Fit may be a nice compromise of cardio with a little strength training. I've got 30 or so pounds to lose.

Really enjoying this as a suplimentary option to all the running I do. I find that the heart rate check via IR is trash compared to my Garmin Forerunner. Also, the calorie burned counts are weirdly and grossly underestimated compared to that watch and common sense.

I'm happy that the calories burned count is low. I honestly see it as a psychological trick to keep you from being overly impressed with yourself, and thus sabotaging yourself by thinking you can indulge. While it may seem absurd to someone who with seasoned fitness experience, given the target audience ranges from casual exercisers who need some motivation to abject novices with zero nutritional knowledge, that's an easy trap for that group to fall into. Reporting the high estimate of calories burned simply increases the chance one will go for that extra scoop of ice cream because they 'earned it'.

There are lots of tricks in this game aimed to motivate people who have a tough time with consistency or lack fitness knowledge. I think they put a lot into addressing psychological barriers.

I love it. Got it at Thanksgiving and had a productive 3 weeks until Christmas travel. Only did it once the last two weeks so I have to jump back in tonight.

It's cold for outside and the gym at my current job sucks compared to my old one. So I've slowly been gaining back everything I lost in 2018 the last 8 months since I changed jobs.

I actually thought my first workout wasn't so bad, do did another the next day instead of waiting. That really hot me though, so I took a couple days rest. Had an every other day cycle going and want to get back to that.

Got a lot more exercises unlocked by world 3 or 4. I'm a little annoyed you have to choose a limited number of exercises. I'd like to try whatever and have all the color options available for the game part of the game. But overall only minor complaints like that.

If we're not friends, please add me (6273-9936-5107). I love seeing others on leaderboards, keeps me motivated.

Did one more level today (only my third time playing the game). Letting the game give me a bit of a challenge was not exactly a mistake, but was not a great idea either, so I brought the game back down to its original difficulty level (19 instead of 23). Those battles were brutal.

Feel free to friend me as well: 8235-0816-8893

Gotta say: Dragaux is pretty buff... Wish my character looked like that, but as a human, and with that outfit. Also that there were more character customization options.

I'm clearly in worse shape than I thought. Took two days for the soreness to fully go away after my first session.

Edit:
Does it really require a paid Nintendo online subscription to see other's profiles/stats?

Also, how do you change the difficulty more than one level at a time? It set me to 12 originally, so I told it just now that it's too easy, and it raised me to 13. While that included a few more reps, I wouldn't describe it as much more challenging.

I sent some friend requests to a few of you all. I'm 5203-4307-3043.

Likewise - this is the first time I've actually been compelled to input a Switch friend code....

I'm 4844-8103-0424

So, how do you get these numbers for friend requests. I don't use my Switch much. Also, how do I add you guys as friends?

Edit: Actually I could probably just google it too!

Just finished world 1. I panicked a bit when I saw that the estimated time for that last level was 10 minutes, but it ended up taking me 6 (which is weird considering it took me a bit more than the estimations for the previous two). I might redo one of the prior levels tonight for the heck of it.

I'm enjoying this so far! My living room is a bit too small though, whenever I have to do the exercises on the floor, I always end up with my back against the sofa.

EDIT: Weird... So I use an app to learn to read Japanese kanji, and these days, probably due to a bout of insomnia, I usually do pretty poorly. However, today, after each of my two Ring Fit Adventures sessions, by kanji reviews went much better than the others. Makes me wonder if there's a link. I'll test this out again tomorrow.

I got this around Christmas but I haven't picked it up much recently because this darn cold keeps resurfacing. The game put me at 9 when I first started but that wasn't doing anything so it's been bumped up to 11. Then my muscles feel it for a little bit after but the next day it's fine. So I probably could stand to increase it a few levels at this point.

I've always been one of those people who can eat whatever and not really gain weight. So I've never really bothered with exercise at all but my energy levels are pretty bad these days so I'm hoping this helps with that. Right now I've cleared World 2 and also put in a bit of time just doing the quick play minigames which are fun.

My Switch code is in my sig if anyone wants to add me but I'm pretty sure that I'll rank at the bottom of all the leaderboards. I guess if you want to feel good about yourselves.

Those planks nearly killed me. I'm probably doing something wrong, I can't get them to work properly. I might have to try again outside of the game, and remove them from the move set until I get them right.

Somewhat pissed that you need Nintendo Online to actually have access to the leaderboards or anything like that. Oh well. I don't play anything online on my Switch (probably because I don't have a regular Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate regular partner), so that makes it a pass for me at the moment. (Although Tetris 99 is a strong argument in favor.)

Bobbywatson, exercise is associated with better brain performance. You're not imagining it. Frankly, I think it has to do with increased blood flow.

That exercise, along with a few others, can have sensor wonkiness. I found that with planks, don't do a perfect plank to kick it off. Stick your butt up a little while it does the three count. Otherwise, it can tend to want you to put your body through the floor on the down motion before it registers.

I got this son Friday and tried it out today. Went through the initial setup and conquered world one. My heart rate definitely got up there! My chest strap monitor had me in the 130s and 140s after some of the tougher parts. I also couldn't squeeze the ring as well as time went on for the overhead presses. I think this will be a good way to add variety to my exercise and hopefully my son will do some too.

I also ate like, 7 home made chocolate chip cookies and my son makes them fairly big.
