More App State news: Shawn Clark, the current O-line coach, will be the interim coach.

Sounds like this won't be "interim" for much longer (like, tomorrow).

Yep. Seems like a popular choice in and around Boone. We need to find out quickly if he can recruit. App has a *ton* of juniors and seniors, and I haven't seem much of the kids coming in behind them, mostly because the current juniors and seniors are so good that the new kids haven't taken their starting spots.

As for this week's CFB schedule, it's Rest Weekend before the bowls start next weekend.

The only I-A game is Army/Navy. Forecast is 50s and rainy, which seems appropriate. (Bad, but not completely miserable, kinda like the game.)

There's also semis in I-AA and D2 and D3 -- three separate classifications of football-playing schools that have honest-to-gosh playoffs. What will they think of next?!

P.S. The best team playing all weekend, North Dakota State, is on ESPN at noon Saturday.

Signing day and stuff. But I guess there's 2 now. So too early for next year's thread, playoffs and stuff. But still, hey new players.

Top 4 classes currently are the 4 teams in the playoffs. Rich get richer.

I'd say rich stay rich. They're just replacing previous 4 and 5 stars with new 4 and 5 stars.

Minor quibble, looks like Stele is basing his ranking on ESPN, which is widely seen as the least accurate of the recruiting services. Most folks simply reference the 247 composite for both player and team rankings, and in the composite, one of the playoff team is currently missing the top 4 spots, with LSU way down at 5.

Ah yeah just one I saw on twitter yesterday that showed top 25 or something and noticed the first 4 were the 4. Didn't pay attention to which service.

I wrote substantially the same post last night, but was afraid of looking pedantic. Thanks for taking the hit for me.

I'll note that the Fightin' Texas Aggies are right behind the playoff teams and LSU. Things look good for our future if you subscribe to the "blue chip ratio" theory.

For those who don't follow recruiting, one of the most interesting developments yesterday is that LSU had a bunch (four or five) of highly-rated recruits jump ship at the last minute, supposedly because they (LSU) pulled offers from some of their commits in order to make room for more highly-rated recruits. They still signed a hell of a class to rank fifth, but they might have done even better if they hadn't "processed" some of their commits and instead signed everyone they were expected to.

We've discussed the scumminess of assistant coaches taking different jobs after the recruits have signed, but I don't think the release of several recruits at the eleventh hour has been seen as deceptive towards the recruits one intends to keep - but in many cases, the kids have become friends and are looking forward to being teammates.

Which leads me to wonder about LSU's quality control staff. Granted, they certainly did just fine overall, but they might have cost themselves a shot at the top spot with the late processing. Basically, all of the top 300 high school kids know each other from the camp circuit, so relationships and friendships certainly can play a role in who signs where, and I know that Clemson/Bama/UGA have multiple staffers tracking the relationships of their potential recruits.

Changing subject to the Dawgs, we landed a great haul of WRs yesterday, including a high 4 star flip from LSU. I'm still hopeful we are also going to get two more 5 stars which will move us up to the 2nd or 3rd slot.

LOL Miami

Crazy QB punches two players and gets ejected with 10 seconds left and no comment here? What are you people doing?

Playoffs today. Thoughts, predictions?

You forgot to mention he hit a referee..

And some people want to get rid of bowl games!

TheWalt and I went to the Texas Bowl last night and saw the Fightin' Texas Aggies triumph over Oklahoma State. Gig 'Em!

I'm assuming this afternoon LSU will have the third string in with ten minutes to go. The second game should be closer, no real feeling about that one.

Peach Bowl's gonna be a track meet, I have a distinct sense.

Probably an inappropriate time to get yourself called for the clearest targeting penalty I've seen in months, and to do it to a guy who didn't even have the ball.

I assumed both teams would be involved, this was incorrect.

This is the happiest Bengals fans have been in years.

If Deadspin hadn't been lobotomized, we'd be getting a Jim Ross supercut.

Jalen is no Lamar. Not even close.

What's Lincoln Riley going to tell his team at half time? "I'm off to Dallas; y'all on your own."

WHY IS HE STILL PLAYING?!?!?!?!?!

They just got done talking about how Jalen Hurts became one of only, like, four people to throw 30 TDs and run for 20 and they already start talking about how he should change positions in the NFL.

Huh.

Maybe he's a black QB?

Nah, football media isn't racist. I mean Lamar is about to win MVP and he never got told to change posit... Oh wait!

I called this! Btw LSU only scored 50 against the Ags.

The Big 12 is 0-fer in playoff history. I hope all of you "conference champs only" advocates are watching closely.

That first half almost got ugly. Now we have a game

Oh LSU wasn't a conference champ?

Well! That was fun.

1 interception all year, 2 tonight. Doesn't say much for B1G defenses.

Jesus H, they won't play until January 13th! The NBA thinks they've stretched this out too far.

Worst thing about Clemson winning is two more weeks of having to listen to Dabo.
