That which has been seen/Vasectomy Snip-all

I suggest you consider strongly how you're going to support the boys when you run...

Currently I use this

Will I have to switch to something else afterwards? For how long?

Compression shorts and gauze work great post procedure. Then, as mentioned, use frozen peas and ibuprofen.

I can't remember if I used them for running afterward or not. I feel like if there's enough soreness to require compression shorts, you shouldn't be running yet.

BTW, shorts a few sizes too small effectively achieve compression. Just try them out beforehand. You want supportively tight, but not cut-off-the-blood supply tight. Getting the right level of support creates a surprising amount of comfort, for the first week or so.

Done.

OH GOD YES!!!

Got it done this morning and back at home!

Didn't post beforehand because the last two days have been filled with anxiety so I didn't want to post about it and then bail on the procedure. As with most things, the anxiety over it was by far the worst part.

Now's as good a time as any to start playing Control and watch The Irishman. Doctor's orders. It's not like I can masturbate to fill the time.

I mean if you get creative...

Seriously, not a good idea Lunchbox. :-/

Yeah, that's a quick way to cause serious problems for the vasectomy not working, and it going from "outpatient, 15 minutes total" to "OK, when did you want your surgery??"

My recommendation. Stick to the 3 days super light duty. They tell you to, but you'll start feeling good enough to do more, listen to the doc and don't do more. Wear the jock strap for at least 7 days

Druidpeak speaks the truth.

On behalf of all females, I wish to say thank you to the males who have gotten this done. Sometimes we like not to be the responsible ones.

Yeah still hoping for baby #2 around here but this won't be far behind. Heck of an interesting thread.

Oh yeah, count me in as of a few months ago.

Had it done in a clinic and aside from paying a heck of a lot more than I was led to believe it would cost as a result I can't really complain.

To add to this, I am a complete baby when it comes to medical stuff. I still need to lie down for blood samples. So you can imagine how much I stressed about this, especially with the typical dumb thing of reading things online about times this procedure went wrong. And in the end I got so anxious, I might have considered walking out if I hadn't taken that Ativan he offered.

But in the end, I can say it caused less discomfort than some filings I've had at the dentist. If you can get a doctor with a good reputation in town, and hopefully the no needle/no scalpel version like me, then it's a no brainer. I felt a few small pops for the jet freezing - a fraction of pain of a needle - and about 6 minutes of a slightly tight feeling while he did his thing - and I was back to checking my phone. It's now 36 hours later and I still would call what I have discomfort more than pain. (Knock on wood.)

Forget tubal ligation, the process for her is probably worse when she gets a pap smear or an IUD put in. Granted, I have a desk job and can work from home so it's no big deal for me to sit around and do nothing, but I'm glad I could "man up."

Looking forward to the test in 3 months to confirm I'm sterile and I get to tell my current girlfriend that she's free to quit her birth control that gives her extra cramping.

Had my operation (scapel, local) four days ago. Operation was painless and so has been everything after it. Sore for sure, but not anything i would call pain. First two days i took it easy and were mostly on bed or sofa. Also figured out how much my daughter and cats would like to jump on my lap. I woke up from sleep every time cat was somewhere near me.

On third day post-op, i had to go back to work. Had to install suspended ceilings into very small space. So I had to be on ladder whole day, forcing to keep my legs together. It wasnt very pleasant when things are swollen down there..
Size of balls are still turbo mode, but color of bruises are finally getting back to normal. Hoping to get happy little balls back soon.

I’ve been on the wait list for just under a year now and no end in sight. Sigh.

Dunno about that, there's a vas deferens in surgery quality when done remotely.

Saw this article by Rob Delaney today. Hilarious!

Crazy! Here in Ontario my appointment was a little over a month after putting it the request.

Apparently this has been a problem here forever. My grandfather when on a "lad's trip" to the USA in the 60s to get it done.

A lad’s trip?

I’m just imagining a man saying “hop in boys, we’re gettin’ snipped!”

From the way he tells it, that is 100% what happened.

Hop in loser! We're going castrating!

Hey, this thread exists! I should've known, of course.

I had mine done on Monday. I was feeling pretty chill about the whole thing until it started and then I freaked out. It is alarming having someone cut you open and snip things out of you! I'd planned to just read my book on my kindle and try to ignore it, but I made it maybe one page before realizing that wasn't going to work. The doctor had me in a seated position with my legs out, so he was just there with his scalpel down in my lap while I was attempting to read, and tho I could position my kindle to block the primary area, seeing his hands moving around the edges of my vision was just too much for me. So I just sorta said "okay, I'm freaking out, gonna put my book down and stare at the ceiling" and the doc was cool about it and made small talk with me until it got done. Whole procedure was 20-30 minutes, so not that bad, but I was a bit more shook than I thought.

I also very stupidly went into it saying "yeah, they say you'll be pretty sore for a bit but eh I'm sure I'll be fine." I don't know why I thought that--maybe focusing too much on the idea that it was just a couple of ~3mm incisions (sounds small!), maybe just straight denial--but I was definitely wrong, felt quite sore Monday. Improved but still tender Tuesday. Last couple of days I feel fine, just have to keep reminding myself to not pick up the kids or any heavy stuff--I thoughtlessly lifted my almost 2 year old son yesterday and, though I didn't feel like I hurt anything, know I shouldn't make a habit of that until next week. I have maybe 3 pairs of tighter underwear, so I am just doing extra laundry to keep things tight, but I am feeling like that probably won't be necessary more than another day or two.

Thankfully my wife has been a hero for the last few days, Monday and Tuesday especially. I sat in my own secluded space playing Xbox for most of the time my kids were in the house while she handled everything for them. She's still pulling extra duties since I can't lift the kids up or carry their heavier bags, but should get back to normal over the weekend.

Ultimately it has been not that big of a deal, but I could've been a little better psychologically prepared to have somebody cut open my body and do stuff to it. Oh well, it's done now.

I had them put me out for it. Better for everyone lol. Oh well, you won't have to do it again.

I think for some reason I was imagining something more high tech. In my mind I was imagining laying back with my feet elevated and a sheet over my waist with the doctor snipping away out of sight while I read or play with my phone. I thought it'd be one cut to get in and a couple snips inside, maybe done with like a laser and little cameras inside, all of it done in seconds. Instead it was just my balls in my lap with the doctor leaning over with a scalpel, a cut on each side, each time preceded by a not very comfortable shot... Much less civilized than the Jetsons surgery I had imagined for myself!
